R. Kelly Sentenced To Additional Year In Prison In Illinois Sex Crimes
R. Kelly recently received a 20-year jail sentence in Chicago for his federal sex offenses prosecution.
On Thursday (February 23), the scandalized singer appeared in federal court in Illinois. The final year will be served consecutively after serving the first 19 years concurrently with the term he’s already serving.
Prosecutors had suggested that he receive a 25-year term on top of the time he’s already serving. R. Kelly is currently incarcerated for 30 years after being found guilty of federal racketeering in New York.
U.S. District Judge Harry Leinenweber for the Northern District of Illinois stated, “sentencing should be sufficient but not greater than necessary,” continuing “everybody agrees that the nature of this offense is horrible, horrific.”
“No matter what I do Mr. Kelly is not going out the door in the next 10 years, in the next 20 years,” Leinenweber said. “One of the things we should bear in mind, he is 56 years old and as Ms. Bonjean points out, he has a life expectancy of not a helluva lot more.”

Halle Bailey Expected The Little Mermaid Racist Backlash
Halle Bailey, who is playing Ariel in The Little Mermaid, recently addressed the racist backlash she has received online and said she expected it.
Bailey said, “As a Black person, you just expect it, and it’s not really a shock anymore.” She continued, “Honestly, when the teaser came out, I was at the D23 Expo [ Disney’s largest fan-centric event], and I was so happy. I didn’t see any of the negativity.”
The director of The Little Mermaid said, “We just were looking for the best actor for the role, period. The end.” He continued, “Production wanted someone incredibly strong, passionate, beautiful, smart, clever with a great deal of fire and joy. Bailey fit the bill perfectly.”
Halle continued, “As a Black woman, hair is spiritual, especially locs. It was really cool for them to make Ariel a version of me with my locs. I feel like that’s what mermaid hair would be anyway.”

NBA All-Star Game Draws Record Low Rating
The 2023 NBA All-Star Game made history on Sunday – but not the kind of history the league was hoping for.
Sunday’s contest set a record for the least-watched NBA All-Star Game ever, drawing just 4.59 million viewers between viewers of TBS and TNT.
That’s barely more than half the viewership for the Daytona 500, which aired the same day to an audience of more than 8 million.
Boston Celtics Jayson Tatum took home the Most Valuable Player award. Many would say the low ratings are due to the absence of Warriors Guard Steph Curry who missed the game entirely, and Lakers Forward LeBron James and Bucks Forward Giannis Antetokounmpo exited early.
According to reports ,” Ratings declined 29% and viewership 27% from last year’s All-Star Game (3.1, 6.28M).” It contines to mention,” While All-Star Game viewership has been trending down, this year’s declines are the steepest for the game since 2000 — the first All-Star Game after a one-year hiatus due to the 1998-99 NBA lockout.”

Tyler Perry Shuts Down Rumors That ‘House of Payne’ Actress Cassi Davis Died
Tyler Perry took to social media Monday to shut down rumors of actress Cassi Davis being dead.
Rumors floated on the Internet that Davis had died of lung cancer. The Mississippi native began working with Perry in 2005. She played Bam in Madea movies and plays and Aunt Ella on “House of Payne,” currently filming its 12th season.
Tyler says he called Davis. He revealed on Instagram, “I said, ‘Cassi, you sure you’re not dead? ’She said, ‘Well, I feel like I’m in Heaven ‘cause these chicken wings I’m eating are so good.’‘When I saw that Al Sharpton was at my funeral, I tried to call him just to thank him.’”
The Madea creator told Davis, he’d be the one to announce when the time comes. She let him know, “Thank you, but I’m sure I’m going to outlive you.” He continued to say that Davis asked when she does pass away, can he bury her in his pool.
The mogul included in his caption, “can whoever is responsible for this please stop you better be careful when you speak death over a child of God. This woman is loved by millions and you’re hurting a lot of people.”
Don Lemon Drops Out of Moderating NYC Event Amid Backlash
CNN’s Don Lemon has dropped out of an event to honor Black History Month following misogynistic comments about Nikki Haley.
Lemon was set to moderate an event in New York City centering around race and real estate. He and the event organizers agreed that his recent news converge would put a dim light on the event and its purpose.
Don was replaced with real estate broker John Gomes, and he was absent from Monday’s “CNN This Morning.”
Don got in trouble when he said that a woman’s “prime” was based on her age when talking about Nikki. “I’m just saying Nikki Haley should be careful about saying that politicians are not in their prime and they need to be in their prime when they serve. Because she wouldn’t be in her prime according to, you know, Google,” Lemon shared during the show.
Viewers expressed their anger online, with co-host Poppy Harlow voicing her displeasure with the comment.
Since then, he’s apologized, he tweeted,” The reference I made to a woman’s “prime” this morning was inartful and irrelevant, as colleagues and loved ones have pointed out, and I regret it. A woman’s age doesn’t define her either personally or professionally. I have countless women in my life who prove that every day.”

Chris Brown Asks Where’s Cancel Culture For White Artists As People Bring Up His Past Abuse Against Rihanna
Chris Brown responded to people who still haven’t forgotten his assault on Rihanna almost 15 years ago.
He continues, “Im [sic] tired of yall [sic] running wit [sic] this narrative. You weird ass n—as are the same ones that tune in every week to see Blueface and Chrisean beat the f–k out of each other in front of the world,” Brown began a mostly all-caps Instagram Stories Friday.
It all started when former Cheetah Girl Kiely Williams tweeted, “Let him come out with his own record–so genius, so captivating that it makes us all forget HE BEATS WOMEN. He can’t so he won. So what does he do?” This tweet came after the announcement of singer Chlöe Bailey releasing her album with a song featuring Chris Brown. Williams is also a fan of watching the nonsense of one-hit rapper Blueface and on-and-off again girlfriend Chrisean.
The singer then wondered where “cancel culture” was when it came to “white artists” who “date underage women” or “beat the f–k out of their wives.” He followed up with some pretty well-known white actors and artists that have been arrested for assault on their partners but still not treated as Brown. Nicholas Cage, Sean Penn, Mel Gibson, Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash, and American Horror Story actress Emma Roberts who was arrested for beating her co-star boyfriend Evan Peters in Canada.

Civil Rights Activist Roslyn Pope Dies At 84
The college professor and musician who wrote “An Appeal for Human Rights,” laying out the reasons for the Atlanta Student Movement against systemic racism in 1960.
ATLANTA (AP) — Roslyn Pope, a college professor and musician who wrote “An Appeal for Human Rights,” laying out the reasons for the Atlanta Student Movement against systemic racism in 1960, has died. She was 84.
Pope died Jan. 18 in Arlington, Texas, where she moved from Atlanta to be with her daughters after her health began to fail in 2021, according to her family’s obituary.
The document Pope wrote as a 21-year-old senior at Spelman College launched a nonviolent campaign of boycotts and sit-ins by Black college students protesting discrimination not just in voting but in education, jobs, housing, hospitals, movies, concerts, restaurants and law enforcement.
“We do not intend to wait placidly for those rights, which are already legally and morally ours, to be meted out to us one at a time,” the Appeal declared. “We plan to use every legal and non-violent means at our disposal to secure full citizenship rights as members of this great Democracy of ours.”
Atlanta’s white-owned newspapers wouldn’t publish it, and Georgia’s segregationist leaders tried to dismiss it, saying it couldn’t possibly be the work of college students. But The New York Times ran it on a full page, as did other publications across the U.S. It was read into the Congressional Record as a testament to how segregation was stifling the ability of people to coexist with equality and dignity.

Rihanna fans everywhere tuned in live to watch the business mogul perform for the first time since 2016 at Super Bowl LVII halftime show.
Many anticipated nothing other than a jaw-dropping show and many will agree, that’s what was given.
The stage lifted the Savage X Fenty founder high above the crowd in her hot pink ensemble. She was joined by dancers dressed in all white while performing her number-one hits!
Although she couldn’t perform every hit song in the allotted time during her performance she gives what appears to be a sweet belly rub. Leaving fans in a tizzy, assuming that the Barbadian singer is now pregnant with her second child.

Founding Member Of De La Soul, Trugoy The Dove Has Died
De La Soul legend Trugoy The Dove, also known as Dave or Dave Jolicoeur, has died at 54.
While details are scarce, his team confirmed his passing to AllHipHop. Trugoy has been struggling with his health over the past few years. In 2018, Trugoy opened up about his battle with congestive heart failure in an Instagram video and admitted he was struggling with being sidelined.
In 2020, he again sparked concern when he was briefly hospitalized. He appeared to be in good spirits, however and was able to have an Instagram Live conversation with his De La Soul brethren, Posdnuos and Maseo.
The group was looking forward to their debut 3 Feet High and Rising, De La Soul Is Dead, Buhloone Mindstate, Stakes Is High, Art Official Intelligence: Mosaic Thump and AOI: Bionix finally available on all digital service providers on March 3. It may not seem like a celebration without all three members present for the moment, but it is certainly well deserved.
