Singer Toni Braxton is opening up to fans about what happened when she suffered a massive heart attack last year. “I was having this pain in my chest,” said Toni during an interview on Today. “I thought it was because I was so sad. I had just lost one of my sisters.”
She admitted that she’d been putting off going to the doctor, but when she finally got there, she found out she could have had a life-threatening heart attack. After the incident, Toni received a coronary stent.
The Grammy award winner reflected saying, “It was really a scary moment. Had I not gotten that test, my life would’ve been different,” Braxton acknowledged. “I look at it like it was a blessing in disguise for me because now, putting off tests? Oh no, I will not put off tests. If all I have to do for my lupus and my kidney health is pee in a cup, I can pee in a cup.”
Katherine Jackson, 92, will testify in her lawsuit against her son’s estate. Jackson’s executors, John Branca, and John McClain, allegedly sought the court’s approval of a contract they negotiated, claiming they “have an opportunity which they believe is to the substantial advantage of the estate and in the best interest of the beneficiaries.”
This opportunity hadn’t been announced; however, the sale of half of Jackson’s song collection for $800 million is suspected. Three months later, the Jackson matriarch opposed the agreement. According to court documents, Michael’s siblings Randy and Rebbie viewed secret agreement details.
Allegedly Katherine’s daughter LaToya Jackson’s ex-fiancée Jefferee Phillips stole over $1 million in property, including handwritten notes, 5 hard drives, 3 silver Mac laptops, two iPods, cassette tapes, and a large black bag with a skull on it. They believe the hard drives could potentially contain unreleased music.
Phillips says,“I have never lied about having the Carolwood Items or otherwise concealed the fact that I kept the Carolwood Items in storage. Jackson’s family members knew I had these items.”
He added, “had the Estate simply asked for the property and not resorted to the premeditated set-up and bullying tactics, I would have called La Toya to inform her that the Estate was requesting the items, and the two of us would have then called her mother. If Ms. Jackson instructed me to give the property back to the Estate, I would have done so.”

#HarryBelafonte, singer, actor, and activist, has passed away at 96. According to a spokesperson that spoke with The New York Times, he passed due to congestive heart failure.
A true icon Belafonte was known as the “King of Calypso” with his chart hit “The Banana Boat Song (Day-O).” He won over hearts as an actor in the film “Carmen Jones,” starring him and Dorothy Dandridge.
Although he entertained the world, he loved the people and, throughout his life, continued for their rights as an activist, many times alongside Dr. Martin Luther King.
“Whenever we got into trouble or when tragedy struck, Harry has always come to our aid, his generous heart wide open,” Coretta Scott King later said in her memoir.
Belafonte was a recipient of many awards, like the Kennedy Center Honors, in 1989, in 2000, a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, and The National Medal Of Arts in 1994.
“What I’ve always been looking for: Where resides the rebel heart?” Belafonte replied. “Without the rebellious heart, without people who understand that there’s no sacrifice we can make that is too great to retrieve that which we’ve lost, we will forever be distracted with possessions and trinkets and title.

According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons spokesperson Benjamin O’Cone, he’s been transferred from the Metropolitan Correctional Center Chicago to the federal correctional institution in Butner, North Carolina to serve his sentence.
Robert Sylvester Kelly, denied the allegations but the rumors of the Grammy award winner have been circulating since the 90’s. Kelly will be eligible to be released from jail when he is in his late seventies. The reason for the transfer isn’t disclosed due to privacy, safety, and security reasons.
CNN has announced the termination of Don Lemon, and Lemon recently reacted to the news with shock.
Lemon said in a statement, “I was informed this morning by my agent that I have been terminated by CNN. I am stunned. After 17 years at CNN, I would have thought that someone in management would have had the decency to tell me directly.”
He continued, “At no time was I ever given any indication that I would not be able to continue to do the work I have loved at the network. It is clear that there are some larger issues at play.” He added, “With that said, I want to thank my colleagues and the many teams I have worked with for an incredible run. They are the most talented journalists in the business, and I wish them all the best.”
CNN has issued a statement refuting Lemon’s claim, “Don Lemon’s statement about this morning’s events is inaccurate. He was offered an opportunity to meet with management but instead released a statement on Twitter.”

Nelly and Ashanti keep the rumors going about their relationship status by performing together in Vegas after being seen at the fight together. The two of them hit the stage at the Sin City pool party and performed ‘Body On Me.’
They were very flirtatious while performing, and Ashanti even backed up on Nelly and continued dancing with him. One person said, “Yesss! If love was meant to be, it’ll find its way back.” Another added, “They back together real bad!”

Since the domestic dispute, Creed III actor, Jonathan Majors, has been dropped by his PR firm, talent management, Entertainment 360, and Valentino due to what has been confirmed because of personal behavior issues. In addition, Majors also will not attend the 2023 Met Gala.
Fashion houses agreed not to invite the actor to this year’s Met Gala, according to Deadline. Majors was arrested on March 25 after a domestic dispute with a 30-year-old woman. Majors’ lawyer, Priya Chaudhry, assured fans that the Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania villain would be vindicated following news of the alleged assault.

Ralph Yarl was shot in the head and the arm after he was at the wrong residence attempting to pick up his siblings. He is recovering at home.
According to Sarah Boyd the Clay County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson, Lester’s $200,000 bond prohibit him from having any type of weapon, and cannot have direct or indirect contact with Yarl or his family.
The Yarl families attorney Ben Crump said it was ” nothing short of a miracle” as Ralph was released from the hospital and able to recover at home.
No confirmation as of now if Lester has an attorney. He told police the two did not have any conversation before firing at the young man through the locked glass door.

The state’s attorney general announced on Monday, April 17, that an Ohio grand jury decided not to indict eight Akron police officers in the death of Jayland Walker, a 25-year-old Black man shot numerous times by the police following an attempted traffic stop and a chase last summer.
According to a police video that was made public, police chased Walker after he failed to stop, first in their cars and then on foot. The police claimed they shot Walker because they believed he had fired a weapon from his automobile, and they were afraid he would do so again.
Walker had fired at least one shot at the police from his car but was unarmed when the police pursued him on foot and fatally shot him.
Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost spoke on the case saying, “He reached for his waistband in what several officers described as a cross-draw motion, planted his foot and turned toward the officers while raising his hand,” Yost claimed. “Only then did the officers fire, believing Mr. Walker was firing again at them.”
Authorities did not discover a gun on Walker, but one in the vehicle.

He said, “Two things I can say publicly that I do not like. Black History Month is an insult. You’re going to relegate my history to a month?” He continued, Also, ‘African American’ is an insult.
“I don’t subscribe to that title,” Freeman explained. “Black people have had different titles all the way back to the N-word and I do not know how these things get such a grip, but everyone uses ‘African-American’.”
He added, Most Black people in this part of the world are mongrels. And you say Africa as if it’s a country when it’s a continent, like Europe.”
It was brought to Freeman’s attention that Denzel Washington once said, “I’m very proud to be Black, but Black is not all I am,” Morgan responded: “Yes, exactly. I’m in total agreement. You can’t define me that way.”

It’s just been announced that Stacey Abrams will be joining Howard University’s faculty after being appointed as the inaugural Ronald W. Walters Endowed Chair for Race and Black Politics, which will be housed in the Ronald W. Walters Leadership and Public Policy Center.
In this role, she will be leading – with the help of other faculty – research on political issues impacting Black Americans, as well as lead the Ronald W. Walters Speakers Series in which guests from all different perspectives are invited to speak on and converse about a range of different topics and issues.
As stated by Howard, she will lecture and hold symposiums while working across multiple academic departments as well, but won’t be working as a traditional full-time faculty member, and will reside in Georgia.
Ronald Walters, who passed in 2010, was a professor at Howard for 25 years as well as a leader and activist on issues regarding politics and race. The endowed chair was first announced a decade after his death in 2020 following a donation made by his wife, Patricia Turner Walters, of their personal collection of African American art equating to $2.5 million, and was created to carry on his legacy in Black politics.
“We are at an inflection point for American and international democracy, and I look forward to engaging Howard University’s extraordinary students in a conversation about where they can influence, shape and direct the critical public policy decisions we face.” says Abrams on her appointment. “Through this post, I hope to emulate Dr. Walter’s diasporic lens on our world and be a part of how Howard University continues to contribute to the broader political discourse.”
This serves as the next step for her after an extensive political career so far; in 2018, Abrams made history as the first African American woman to win a major party nomination for governor in the U.S. as the Democratic nominee in Georgia. She ran a second time later on in 2022, despite losing to Republican Brian Kemp.
“She continues to be an influential figure in the Democratic Party and a role model for young women and people of color who aspire to enter the policy arena.” said Howard University Provost and Chief Academic Officer Anthony K. Wutoh, PhD. “We are incredibly grateful to Ms. Abrams for her commitment to investing in the future of Howard students as the Ronald W. Walters Endowed Chair and we are pleased to welcome her to Howard University.”
Abrams will begin her multi-year appointment starting in the fall, in September.
Bob Lee, a former technology executive who helped in the launch of CashApp and chief product officer of the cryptocurrency platform MobileCoin, was killed from a stabbing attack in downtown San Francisco early Tuesday morning, as confirmed by police and his employer, MobileCoin.
Bob Lee, a former technology executive who helped in the launch of CashApp and chief product officer of the cryptocurrency platform MobileCoin, was killed from a stabbing attack in downtown San Francisco early Tuesday morning, as confirmed by police and his employer, MobileCoin.
In a press release from the San Francisco Police Department, officers responded to the report of a stabbing on Main Street at 2:35 a.m. and found a 43-year-old man suffering from life-threatening stabbing wounds, later to be confirmed as Bob Lee. After being brought to the hospital, he later succumbed to his injuries despite efforts by first responders and medical personnel.
London Breed, mayor of San Francisco, reacted to the news by calling it “a horrible tragedy”, and says more details will be shared soon as the police are still investigating Lee’s death, with no arrests made currently.
San Francisco has been experiencing an apparent rise in crime post-pandemic, and the fatal attack of Lee has raised concern of safety for many residents in the neighborhood of the stabbing.
However, Kimberly Richman, a professor of criminal justice and legal studies at the University of San Francisco, says that the homicidal rate in San Francisco has actually remained low, and appears to be more alarming than it is due to the increase of cases by a few each year. She also attributes this rise in discourse to the fact that Lee was white and high-profile in status.
“A high-profile murder like Bob Lee, who was a white, wealthy, upper-class public figure in a neighborhood you don’t associate with crimes rates, it’s going to seem like it’s here too and out of control,” says Richman. “We know there’s a lot more attention paid to violent crimes and murder in which there was a white victim, and so these cases really grab the public’s attention.”

After 26 years after the premiering of the 1997 Rodger and Hammerstein’s ”Cinderella” starring prominent celebrities such as Whitney Houston as the “Fairy Godmother” and Whoopi Goldberg as “Queen Constantina”, actress and singer Brandy reprises her iconic role as Cinderella in Disney’s upcoming Descendants spin-off, “Descendants: Rise of Red”.
Accompanying her once again is Paolo Montalban, who will also be reprising the role of Prince Charming, playing both the King and Queen in the Descendants universe, as shown in footage from the film’s official first look.
The original 1997 film was applauded for its innovative multicultural casting for the time and won an Emmy for Outstanding Art Direction for a Variety or Music Program.
Brandy credits the film’s producers for her casting, including Whitney Houston, Debra Martin Chase, Craig Zadan, and Neil Meron, in which she said the following: “I feel like it opened doors… It’s because of them that I was able to be that person to help open the doors for so many other young artists that want to do things that they probably think are impossible.”
The Descendants franchise focuses on the lives of the children of Disney’s most legendary princesses, princes, and villains. The spin-off “Descendants: Rise of Red” is centered on the journey of Red, the daughter of the Queen of Hearts, and Chloe, the daughter of Cinderella and Prince Charming, as they travel back in time in order to save their home, the kingdom of Auradon.
In Brandy’s words, the release of the film feels like “divine timing”. She also adds, “This was like a dream come true so I’m just so glad that this new generation has this beautiful piece to enjoy.”
As of today, Disney+ has yet to announce the film’s release date, but it is speculated to be released either later on in the year or in early 2024.
