Apple® today announced the winners of the third annual Apple Music® Awards, recognizing the best artists of 2021 and their influence on global culture.

The Apple Music Awards honor achievements in music across five distinct categories — Artist of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, Breakthrough Artist of the Year, Top Song of the Year, and Top Album of the Year — and winners are chosen through a process that reflects both Apple Music’s editorial perspective and what customers around the world are listening to the most.
This year, the Apple Music Awards will introduce a new category of awards for Regional Artist of the Year, recognizing artists from five countries and regions: Africa, France, Germany, Japan, and Russia. The Regional Artist of the Year awards recognize artists who made the greatest impact culturally and on the charts in their respective countries and regions.
“The past 12 months have proved to be a remarkable year for music, and we’re thrilled to honor the artists who are shaping culture and connecting with fans around the world on Apple Music,” said Oliver Schusser, Apple’s vice president of Apple Music and Beats. “This year we’re also recognizing more regional artists, showing the world the impact of extraordinary talented musicians who are making waves globally.”
The Apple Music Awards celebration kicks off Tuesday, December 7, 2021, with interviews, original content, and more all streaming worldwide on Apple Music and the Apple TV® app. Music fans who are not already subscribed to Apple Music can sign up for a three-month free trial at apple.com/apple-music.
And the winners are…
Global Artist of the Year: The Weeknd
Filtering R&B and pop through an ambitious widescreen lens, The Weeknd took over popular music and culture on his own terms. The global superstar’s 2020 album “After Hours” quickly surpassed one million pre-adds on Apple Music, and is the most pre-added album of all time by a male artist on the platform. “After Hours” also holds the record for the most streamed R&B/Soul album in its first week in 73 countries. The smash single “Blinding Lights” peaked at No. 1 on Apple Music’s Daily Top 100: Global chart, and ranks as one of the 20 most Shazamed® songs of all time. The Weeknd also hosts the massively popular taste-making Apple Music Radio show “MEMENTO MORI,” celebrated for its eclectic playlists and major world premieres. He’s graced recent covers of TIME, Forbes, Variety, Rolling Stone, Esquire, Harper’s Bazaar, and GQ, and blew away fans with his 2021 Super Bowl LV Halftime Show, which was one of the most Shazamed moments of the year.
“I’m so grateful for this huge honor and want to thank Apple for all its support, not only for my work but also for great music by newer artists, where it matters so much for creators to be found and supported,” The Weeknd said.
Breakthrough Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, and Song of the Year: Olivia Rodrigo
For Olivia Rodrigo, 2021 will go down as the year of epic firsts. The 18-year-old singer-songwriter released her tear-soaked debut single, “drivers license,” in January, which quickly topped the charts and became one of the most streamed new releases of the year. “drivers license” registered the highest first-week streams ever for a debut single by an artist on Apple Music globally, reaching No. 1 on the Daily Top 100: Global chart, where it remained for over a month, and was the fastest-ever debut solo track by a US artist to accumulate five million Shazams. Her highly anticipated debut album, “SOUR,” followed in May, and was celebrated with an Apple Music First Listen virtual event with fans and an accompanying interview with Zane Lowe. “SOUR” carries the highest first-week streams for a debut album on Apple Music globally, with all 11 songs on the album ranked on the Daily Top 100: Global chart, as well as the Daily Top 100 chart in 66 additional countries. Rodrigo has been on the cover of Apple Music playlists Today’s Hits , A-List Pop , and New Music Daily, and closes her life-changing year as the deserving recipient of her first three Apple Music Awards. She took home Breakthrough Artist, Album of the Year (“SOUR”), and Song of the Year (“drivers license”).
“I did my first interview for ‘drivers license’ with Apple Music, and so much has happened since then,” Rodrigo said. “It’s truly surreal. Thank you to Apple Music for these amazing awards.”
Songwriter of the Year: H.E.R.
Award-winning singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist H.E.R.’s work within the R&B genre grew even more expansive in 2021 with the release of her acclaimed 21-track album “Back of My Mind,” which captures the artist at her most brilliant, confident, and freewheeling. The chart-topping album was the third most streamed R&B/Soul album on Apple Music in its first week of release by a female artist this year, with singles “Damage” and “Come Through” (featuring Chris Brown) both spending multiple weeks on the Daily Top 100 chart in over 30 countries. The former Apple Music Up Next artist also penned the anthemic original “Fight for You” for the celebrated motion picture “Judas and the Black Messiah,” and covered Marvin Gaye’s “Inner City Blues (Make Me Wanna Holler)” for Apple Music’s exclusive “Juneteenth: Freedom Songs” compilation. H.E.R. is a regular guest on Zane Lowe and Ebro Darden’s shows on Apple Music 1, and she has been featured as the cover of popular Apple Music playlists New Music Daily, R&B Now, and more.
“I am very honored and blessed to receive this recognition,” H.E.R. said. “As a young Black and Filipino artist, and a woman who is on the stage giving my all, there’s no doubt that representation is important. Thank you so much, Apple Music.”
Artist of the Year (Africa): Wizkid
Singer-songwriter Wizkid is one of Africa’s biggest crossover acts, having worked with Drake, Skepta, and Chris Brown, among others. The Nigerian musician first found regional success in 2011 with the massively popular single “Holla at Your Boy,” which appeared on his debut album, “Superstar.” Wizkid went global in 2016 after his collaboration with Drake on “One Dance,” which soared to the top of the charts in 15 countries. Between 2019 and 2020, Wizkid was featured in Beyoncé’s projects “The Lion King: The Gift” and its companion piece, “Black Is King.” In October 2020, he released “Made in Lagos,” his critically acclaimed and most commercially successful album, which included his hit song “Essence,” a track that gained 125 million plays on Apple Music and over 2.8 million Shazams. This past year, he’s been the most streamed African artist on the continent on Apple Music and ranked on the Daily Top 100 charts in 60 countries, in addition to his monthly plays on Apple Music growing by more than 250 percent outside of Africa. He’s also been featured on Apple Music’s Today’s Hits and R&B Now playlists, and he’s a frequent guest on Apple Music Radio shows, including “Africa Now Radio,” “The Ebro Show,” “New Music Daily with Zane Lowe,” and “OVO SOUND RADIO.”
“Thank you to Apple Music for this award,” Wizkid said. “It’s a blessing to get to do what I do, and I’m proud to be representing for Africa.”
Artist of the Year (France): Aya Nakamura
French-Malian pop singer Aya Nakamura is the most streamed Francophone artist in the world. Best known for her hit song “Djadja,” she has released three albums featuring countless chart-topping songs, including “Copines,” “Pookie,” “Plus Jamais,” and “Jolie nana,” and she has been on the cover of Apple Music’s Hits Français playlist. In France, Nakamura is one of the only female artists to consistently appear in the streaming charts in a market dominated by male rappers, and her album “AYA” garnered the highest first-week streams for an album released by a female artist on Apple Music. Her songs “Jolie nana” and “Plus Jamais” hold the top two spots for the highest first-week streams for a song by a female artist on Apple Music in France, and all 15 songs on the album entered the Daily Top 100 chart in France, Belgium, and Niger, with “Jolie nana” peaking at No. 1 in those countries. Her song “Bobo” also peaked at No. 1 on the Daily Top 100 chart in France, Niger, Cape Verde, and Micronesia. It marked her fifth single topping France’s Daily Apple charts.
“I am extremely honored to be the very first Francophone artist to win an Apple Music Award as Artist of the Year (France),” Nakamura said. “Thank you, Apple!”
Artist of the Year (Germany): RIN
Rapper Renato Simunovic, aka RIN, was born in 1994 in Bietigheim-Bissingen near Stuttgart in the south of Germany. After releasing his first EP, “Genesis,” in 2016, his debut album, “Eros,” followed quickly in 2017. A 25-time gold and three-time platinum artist, RIN has performed countless live shows, done features with legends, and collaborated with some of the world’s most influential brands. With his third album, “Kleinstadt,” RIN freed himself from the idea of what German rap should sound like, and fans and critics alike cite this album as hugely influential in shaping the current sound of rap in the south of Germany. He was the first German artist to host his own show on Apple Music, “KLEINSTADTRADIO,” tied to the new album, and he has graced the cover of Apple Music’s HYPED and Deutschrap 100 playlists.
“2021 was such a good year for me because it has borne a lot of fruit of things that I postponed for a long time,” RIN said. “My music has evolved in the same sense. I am much more personal.”
Artist of the Year (Japan): OFFICIAL HIGE DANDISM
Formed in Shimane, Japan, in 2012, OFFICIAL HIGE DANDISM, aka HIGEDAN, consists of lead vocalist and keyboardist Satoshi Fujihara, guitarist Daisuke Ozasa, bassist and saxophonist Makoto Narazaki, and drummer Masaki Matsuura. They released their debut mini album, “Love to Peace wa Kimi no Naka,” in 2014. Their first full-length album, “Escaparade” — which includes their popular song “No Doubt” — was released in 2018, but it was their second single, “Pretender,” that rocketed to the top of the Apple Music charts in Japan. HIGEDAN entered Shazam’s emerging artists lists in Japan and Australia for the first time in June 2019, ahead of the release of the band’s follow-up album, “Traveler,” which became their first No. 1 album in Japan. The group has been featured in three different Apple Music Japan commercials, with their hit songs “Stand by You” and “I Love…,” along with the 2021 song “Apoptosis,” taken from their third album, “Editorial , ” which carries the third-highest first-week streams for an album released in 2021 in Japan, and was recently featured in an Apple Music Japan spatial audio with Dolby Atmos commercial. The band has also made several guest appearances on “J-Pop Now Radio” on Apple Music 1.
“We didn’t know Japanese artists could win this award and were shocked when we were told,” the band said. “We’re super happy to be the winners of the first Apple Music Award for Artist of the Year (Japan).”
Artist of the Year (Russia): Scriptonite
Rapper Scriptonite, aka Adil Zhalelov, was discovered by Basta and signed to his label Gazgolder in 2015. Scriptonite’s debut album, “House with Normal Activity,” became an instant classic and has been deemed one of the biggest records of the new Russian hip-hop revolution. In 2017, Scriptonite followed up with two more LPs on Gazgolder, rising to the top-ranked producer and performer of the current hip-hop era, with fans and critics crediting him as the most important voice and sound of the new generation. After starting his own label, Musica36, in 2019, Scriptonite’s “2004” album was released exclusively on Apple Music to critical acclaim, becoming the No. 1 streamed record of the year. Scriptonite also holds the record for the two most streamed albums for its first week on Apple Music in five countries (Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Moldova). His single “Baby Mama” landed him in the Top 20 of worldwide Shazam charts. In 2020, Apple Music exclusively released the short film “Behind Scriptonite’s ‘2004’” along with a “36 Jam” live concert of all Musica36 artists. This year saw the release of his album “Svistki Y Bumazhki,” as well as a COVID-postponed show in Moscow, both released exclusively on Apple Music. Scriptonite has graced the covers of Apple Music’s Kirillitsa, Russian Hits, and New Music Daily playlists, and he’s currently working on his first English-language record in collaboration with Gee Baller, a young Nigerian rising star who recently signed to Musica36.
“This award is the culmination of an incredible few years, and Apple Music has been with me for so much of it along the way,” Scriptonite said. “Thank you for the recognition.”
About the Apple Music Awards
Apple designed a series of physical awards that represent the extraordinary craftsmanship integral to creating music. Each award features Apple’s custom silicon wafer suspended between a polished sheet of glass and a machined and anodized aluminum body. The result of this multi-month process, before it is sliced into hundreds of individual chips, is stunning and distinctive. In a symbolic gesture, the same chips that power the devices that put the world’s music at listeners fingertips sit at the very heart of the Apple Music Awards.

Venus & Serena’s Half-Sister Slams ‘King Richard’ Movie

https://youtu.be/BKP_0z52ZAw

King Richard has been receiving rave reviews as well as mixed reviews about the focus being on Venus & Serena’s father.
Venus and Serena’s half-sister is also upset about the portrayal of Richard Williams in the film.
She said, “It’s a comedy, no? How can you make a movie by telling half the story? It suddenly starts with dad and his new wife Oracene and their children. It’s like nothing happened before. I think the title is completely over the top. He thinks he’s the king of the world, but no one that’s ever been around him thinks he’s King Richard. It is an outrageous title, but to truth be told, it fits him.”
She continued, “How do you leave a baby? I was eight years old, and he left under the pretense ‘I’, gonna get you a bike?’ I can laugh about it now.”
Have you seen the movie? What do you think? Do you think Will Smith did a great job?

Golfer Lee Elder Dies

He was the first Black golfer to play The Masters

Golf pioneer Lee Elder has died at the age of 87. Elder broke down racial barriers as the first Black golfer to play in The Masters and he paved the way for Tiger Woods and others to follow. Elder made history in 1975 at Augusta National, which had held an all-white tournament until he received an invitation after winning the Monsanto Open. Elder missed the cut but forever stamped himself as a groundbreaking figure in a sport never been known for racial tolerance. The PGA Tour said Elder died early Sunday in Escondido, California. He had been in poor health and wore an oxygen tube beneath his nose when he appeared at the opening of the Masters in April.

‘I grew up not having great Christmases, I grew up wanting that thing you see on TV – everything is happy, it is snowing and everything is beautiful, but I had a dysfunctional family and a lot of issues about myself,’ says Carey.

Carey admits that after writing “All I Want For Christmas Is You” she was able to create the Christmas she wanted and is thankful for the song.

‘I have to be thankful for it. It comes from a real place, a place of longing and it’s pretty celebratory,’ Mariah said.

WHO Warns Of ‘Very High’ Risk Of Global Spread Of Omicron Variant

The World Health Organization says the new omicron variant has a “very high” risk of spreading globally – with potentially “severe” consequences.
Officials say “unprecedented” mutations could mean the virus spreads more easily and possibly escapes immunity – though we still don’t know the extent of what the variant is capable of.
The variant was first detected in South Africa but may have already spread to more than a dozen countries. No cases have been reported so far in the U.S.
Will this omicron variant end up affecting holiday travel plans? What should the U.S. government do?

The United States is imposing new travel bans as concern grows worldwide about omicron.

Washington, D.C. (Monday, November 29, 2021) – A newly discovered version of the coronavirus has health experts around the globe searching for answers of how to contain it.  The omicron variant was first reported in South Africa and now cases are being found Australia, Britain, and Canada.

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (AP) — Disney has paused its policy requiring Florida-based employees to take the COVID-19 vaccine following new laws passed by the state’s legislature last week that limit employers’ power to require vaccinations. The company informed employees in a memo sent Friday that it paused the requirement due to the state legislature’s action during a special session last week. The company also cited an appeal court’s temporary delay of federal vaccination guidelines from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. The company said in a statement that more than 90% of Florida-based Disney employees are fully vaccinated. Employees who aren’t fully vaccinated will be required to wear face coverings and observe social distancing.

Guilty, Guilty, Guilty. Verdict Reached In Ahmaud Arbery Murder

All three white men charged in the murder of Ahmaud Arbery are facing possible life in prison after being found guilty today of killing the Black jogger.

(Wednesday, November 24, 2021) – All three white suspects charged in the killing of Ahmaud Arbery were today found guilty in his killing back on February 23, 2020.  The courtroom erupted into cheers as the verdict was read.

The jury found Travis McMichael, who fired the shots, guilty of all nine counts, including malice murder and four counts of felony murder.  His father, Gregory McMichael, was also found guilty of all charges, except malice murder.  Neighbor, William Bryan was found guilty of three counts of felony murder along with a slew of other charges.

The men were arrested two months after the killing of Arbery following outrage over the cellphone video of the killing.  Arbery was jogging through a Georgia neighborhood when the three white men chased him down accusing him of being a burglar.  The case has drawn nationwide attention with race being a central issue and many drawing stark comparison between the murder of Arbery and the 1955 killing of Emmett Till.  The jury was comprised of 11 white persons and one black man.

Police Tie Car Used In Young Dolph’s Killing To 2nd Shooting

By ADRIAN SAINZ Associated Press
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Police say they have tied a car used in the killing of rapper Young Dolph to a shooting that left a woman dead and wounded another person days before the ambush on the hip-hop artist. Memphis police have said that two men exited a white Mercedes-Benz and fired shots into a Memphis bakery where Young Dolph was buying cookies Wednesday and killed him. Police have released photos taken from surveillance video that captured the shooting, but no arrests have been made. Capt. John Howell of the Covington Police Department said evidence shows the Mercedes was also used in a fatal shooting in that city Nov. 12.

Trans Netflix Workers Drop Labor Complaint But One Resigns

Trans Netflix workers drop labor complaint but one resigns
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Two former Netflix employees who raised concerns about anti-transgender comments on Dave Chappelle’s TV special are dropping labor complaints and one has resigned from the company. Terra Field, a senior software engineer who is trans, announced a voluntary resignation on Monday. Field and B. Pagels-Minor also are dropping a National Labor Relations Board complaint that claimed retaliation. Chappelle’s “The Closer” first aired on Oct. 1 and gained millions of views. However, Chapelle’s remarks about the transgender community raised protests within Netflix and from LGBTQ activists. Netflix fired Pagels-Minor last month for allegedly disclosing confidential information, which they’ve denied.

Two U.S. Park Police Officers To Be Fired

Officers Alejandro Amaya and Lucas Vinyard were cleared in the death of motorist Bijan Ghaisar

(Alexandria, VA) — Two U.S. Park Police officers cleared in the 2017 shooting of a motorist are being fired. The Department of Interior says the officers will be terminated in a move that the police union is calling politically motivated. Officers Alejandro Amaya and Lucas Vinyard were cleared of charges last month by a federal judge in the death of motorist Bijan Ghaisar. The union maintains the terminations are not following the terms of its collective bargaining agreement with the U.S. Park Police. In October, District Court Judge Claude Hilton blocked the prosecution of the officers after finding they were entitled to immunity.

Ahmaud Arbery Jury Deliberates for 2nd Day

Jurors re-watched cellphone video of the shooting and listened again to a 911 call.

BRUNSWICK, Ga. (AP) — The jury is deliberating for a second day in the trial of three white men charged with the killing of Ahmaud Arbery in coastal Georgia. The mostly white jury returned to the courtroom to re-watch cellphone video of Arbery’s shooting soon after resuming its deliberations Wednesday morning. Jurors also wanted to listen again to a 911 call one of the defendants made right before the shooting. Jurors are weighing murder charges against father and son Greg and Travis McMichael and their neighbor William “Roddie” Bryan. The McMichaels said they suspected Arbery was a burglar when they chased him past their home in February 2020. Bryan joined the chase and recorded the cellphone video. Travis McMichael testified he fired in self-defense.

The Santa Experience This Year Is A Mix Of Laps, Distancing

By LEANNE ITALIE AP Entertainment Writer
NEW YORK (AP) — Santa is back this year, but he’s asking people to be cautious as he continues to tiptoe through the pandemic. There are fewer available Santas this year, which means some are busier than ever. Where it’s allowed, some malls and big-box stores are offering Santa’s guests a choice of full contact or social distance. Many of the snow globes and barriers set up last year are coming down. About 8.9 million U.S. households are expected to visit Santa in person this year, with virtual visits still a big option. That’s up from 6.1 million last year but fewer than the 10 million who paid the Jolly Old Elf a visit in 2019.

NEW YORK (AP) — When Naturi Naughton read the script for ABC’s new music-inspired drama “Queens,” a feeling of déjà vu rushed through her. That’s because Naughton, a former member of the 2000s R&B group 3LW, knew well the drama and breakups and makeups of being in a girl group. “Queens,” which airs Tuesday nights in primetime and also streams on Hulu, follows a fictional popular ’90s female rap crew, the Nasty Bitches, starring Naughton, Eve, Brandy and Nadine Velazquez. The group broke up at the height of their fame but two decades later — now in their 40s — they attempt to reunite.

COVID-19 Update

Staying safe for Thanksgiving gatherings.

We are just days away from from our Thanksgiving gatherings.  The pandemic is still very much with us.  The difference between this year and last year is that we have vaccines for all.  Gatherings this year are not without the need for precautions.  It’s been a while since we’ve had a covid-19 update and this is certainly the perfect time to do that.

Biden Confronts Soaring Gas Prices

Biden also cited “historic” progress in the economic recovery since taking office.

(Washington, DC) — President Biden is confronting soaring gas prices. Speaking at the White House, he noted he’s tapping into the nation’s vast oil reserves. Biden warned it will take time to have an impact on gas prices. He also insisted fighting climate change is not raising the price of gas. Biden cited gas spikes in years-past and called the current situation a global problem. Meantime, Biden said his administration is aggressively tackling supply chain bottlenecks, a hangover from the COVID pandemic. He insisted U.S. stores will be well-stocked for the holiday season. Jury Deliberating in Ahmaud Arbery’s Trial

Prosecutor Linda Dunikoski delivered rebuttle this morning.

BRUNSWICK, Ga. (AP) — The case of three white men charged with murder in the killing of Ahmaud Arbery is now with the jury. Jurors got the case Tuesday after a nearly two-week trial in which prosecutors argued that the men provoked the fatal confrontation and defense attorneys insisted their clients acted in self-defense. Prosecutor Linda Dunikoski told jurors that the men cannot claim self-defense if they were the aggressors. The prosecution got the final word because it carries the burden of proving its case beyond a reasonable doubt. Prosecutors and defense attorneys spent hours on Monday delivering closing arguments that spilled into a second day.

Prosecutor Linda Dunikoski looks on during the trial of William “Roddie” Bryan, Travis McMichael and his father Gregory McMichael, all charged with the February 2020 death of 25-year-old Ahmaud Arbery, Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2021, at the Glynn County Courthouse in Brunswick, Ga.

Kevin Hart Stars as Gary Coleman’s Role In Diff’rent Strokes Remake

Kevin Hart to play Arnold Jackson, Gary Coleman’s character, in a Diff’rent Strokes remake.

Kevin Hart has been casted for the role of Arnold Jackson, from iconic sitcom, Diff’rent Strokes, in the 90 minute ABC special Live in Front Of A Studio Audience.

The special will also include the Diff’rent Stokes spin-off The Facts of Life that ran on ABC for 9 seasons. This episode will air on ABC Tuesday, December 7th.

Other characters include John Lithgow to star as Mr. Drummond, Damon Wayans as Willis Jackson and Ann Dowd to play Mrs. Garrett, according to the New York Post.

Hart playing Arnold Jackson is the only role that is trending on twitter. People wonder how the Hart, 42, will be able to play a character that Gary Coleman played when he was a tween.

The comedian has yet to announce that he will be playing the role on Twitter, but the people have already started talking. Some are jokingly talking about Hart’s height, being that he is 5’4 one twitter user said that he is “pint sized” and practically “the same size as Coleman on the show.”

Others aren’t happy with ABC’s decision, one fan asked, “Why would you hire @KevinHart4real to play a child when you could have maybe given the chance to an actual child to do something historical?”

You can watch the remake of Diff’rent Strokes and The Facts of Life on ABC’s Live In Front Of A Studio Audience on Dec. 7th.

LeBron James and Isaiah Stewart Suspended After Sunday Night Debacle

Sunday night’s game led to the suspension of LeBron James and Isaiah Stewart.

UPDATE: LeBron James is suspended for one game without pay meaning he will miss Tuesday’s game against the Knicks at Madison Square Garden. On the other hand, Isaiah Stewart is suspended for two games without pay, he will miss the Tuesday Detroit home game against Miami and the Wednesday game against Milwaukee.

As previously reported by WHUR, L.A. Laker, LeBron James was ejected from Sunday nights game against Detroit Pistons for hitting Isaiah Stewart in the face. Stewart, who was visibly bleeding, was also ejected due to his reaction, as he had to be restrained  on multiple occasions in order to prevent him from launching at James.

This is the first time James has been suspended in his 19-year-long career with the NBA. According to a statement NBA released Monday, James is being suspended for “for recklessly hitting Stewart in the face,” and Stewart “for escalating an on-court altercation by repeatedly and aggressively pursuing Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James.”

Some fans think the decision wasn’t fair, what do you all think?

Helping to provide needy families meals during the holiday season is a hallmark of 96.3 WHUR. The radio station continued the tradition Tuesday, November 16th hosting its 43rd Annual Food2Feed radiothon, a 12-hour food drive to collect money and food in time for Thanksgiving.

WHUR listeners gave online at WHUR.com, stopped by the radio station’s Howard University studios with cash and checks, and even dropped off trunk loads of non-perishable food to pack a truck. Howard University student volunteers were on hand to collect the donations from motorists.

Listeners had an extra incentive to share this year. Those who came by the radio station to give with monetary or non-perishable donations also found themselves on the receiving end. Courtesy of Giant Food, listeners got a $5 Giant gift card. “I donate every year to Food2Feed because it’s simply the right thing to do,” said Stephanie Henderson from Fort Washington. “I was pleasantly surprised when I got a Giant gift card in return. I will be using that for some Thanksgiving shopping of my own.”

In addition to more than $500 in $5 gift cards, Giant Food also shipped in a donation of $3,000 to Food2Feed.   At the end of the day, donations topped $40,000. “WHUR listeners have always answered the call to assist their neighbors in need. It is heartwarming to see that even in the midst of the lingering pandemic the level of caring for others is amplified,” said WHUR General Manager Sean Plater.  “We are also thankful to our partner in goodwill Giant Food. Because of their constant support to the community, this year’s Food2Feed with extra special.”

The 2021 Food2Feed Radiothon took on an added sense of urgency as headlines continue to highlight the increasing level of need across the country and right here in the DMV. Statistics show many food banks have seen the request for food assistance in some cases double. “We’ve had person who use to donate to us now are standing in line in need of food to feed their families,” said Gwen Pope, Director of the Emergency Resource Center at Shabach Ministries, Inc.

100% of the tax-deductible donations to Food2Feed are split equally between the Capital Area Food Bank and Shabach Ministries, two non-profit organizations in the DMV working to provide equitable access to food to people struggling with hunger and food insecurity. It is estimated that for every $1 that is donated two meals can be provided to a needy individual.

The 43rd Annual Food2Feed Radiothon is part of WHUR’s larger “Season of Giving Campaign,” which includes a Children’s School Supply Giveaway in August, Children’s Coat Drive in October, and the Children’s Toy Drive in December. 2021 also marks the 50th Anniversary of the heritage radio station.

Tami Roman Gives Her Husband The Option To Have A Baby With Another Woman

Basketball Wives Star, Tami Roman says she gave her husband the opportunity to have a baby with another woman.

Tami Roman is very open-minded with her marriage. What she offered her husband may shock some as it did The Real hosts, Garcelle Beauvais and Adrienne Bailon Houghton.

A post shared by The Real Talk Show (@therealdaytime)

Roman, The Basketball Wives Star, appeared on the talk show this week revealing how she paused her surrogacy plans with her husband, Reggie Youngblood. Instead, she gave Youngblood the ‘opportunity to find someone else to have a baby with.

Youngblood is an only child and doesn’t have any children, whereas Roman already has two daughters with her ex-husband Kenny Anderson.

During the episode, Roman says,”I feel like I’m at a point where my career is starting to do and reward me for all of my efforts and the time that I’ve been in this business, and a baby for me right now would just not be the thing to do.”

So what I offered him [Reggie] was an opportunity for us to take a break for a year or two and let him go find someone to have a child with. And then when he has his baby, we could get back together,” she continued.

Roman explained that she would “help raise the baby” but didn’t want to have it or retrieve her eggs for the surrogacy process. “So it’s really more for him than it is for me,” when referring to having another child. She also explained that the mother of the child would also be a part of the child’s life, “I believe in co-parenting, I believe that’s a very valuable part of the child’s life if the parents aren’t together. You need to learn how to co-parent. And then I can be there and love the child as if it was my own.”

Some may see this act as selfish or selfless as Beauvais exclaimed. She admits that she really does want him to have children she just can’t be the one that does that for him. Youngblood rejected her proposal for this forward-thinking idea.

“But he said, ‘I don’t want that. I fell in love with you, you’re the woman that I’m going to spend the rest of my life with, and if God put me here and I’m not supposed to have children, then that’s what it is,’ ” she revealed.

Dwyane Wade Reveals His Feelings On Not Living With His Youngest Son

In his new memoir, ‘Dwyane’, Wade explains his troubles of not living under the same roof with his youngest son.

Contributed by Lauren Taylor

Dwyane Wade‘s photographic memoir, Dwyane, is out now and it gives a little more detail into his life. In this book, he reveals how it is challenging to not live under the same roof as his youngest son, Xavier Wade.

Xavier is the child of Dwyane Wade and his friend Aja Metoyer. They had Xavier while Wade and his wife, Gabrielle Union, were on a temporary break in 2013. Union spoke out previously about how this had affected her, “The experience of Dwyane having a baby so easily–while I was unable to–left my soul not just broken into pieces, but shattered into fine dust scattering in the wind.” For context, at the time Union was struggling with infertility issues, according to People.

The 39-year-old NBA star has three other children, Zaire, Kaavia, Zaya and he is raising his nephew, Dahveon Morris.

“Xavier doesn’t live with me, so we don’t get to see each other every day like I do with my other kids,” Wade explains in his memoir. “It makes things challenging at times, but it’s my job to make sure he never has to carry that weight.”

“It’s up to me to make sure he knows he’s being raised with love even if we don’t live under the same roof. And it’s up to me to let him know that while distance may physically separate us at times, I’m always going to be the man he can depend on to love him and help lead him,” Wade continues.

Wade speaks on his perspective of fatherhood, “What I’ve come to learn over my life is that fatherhood isn’t a monolithic image that looks the same in every household. Each relationship is different. All I’m concerned about with Xavier is him always knowing he’s loved.”

Dwyane is out on shelves now.
