R. Kelly Trial Postponed As Feds Process Over 100 Devices

R. Kelly prosecutors requested an extension as they could not adequately review hundreds of seized devices before deadline, trial now set for October 13.

The federal trial of R. Kelly has been postponed by half a year, CNN reports. The singer faced federal prosecutors on Thursday in Chicago, where he pleaded not guilty to 13 charges including sexual exploitation of minors and child pornography. These charges were made public in mid February.

It was announced the same day that feds had seized hundreds of electronic devices such as phones, tablets, and computer hard drives in a recent raid of one of Kelly’s properties. Prosecutors requested an extension as they could not adequately review the devices before the April 27 deadline. The trial is now set for October 13.

Kelly’s lawyer Steven Greenberg has said it was a storage facility that was searched. “It’s where he keeps his tour bus, stage equipment, and all sorts of computers…they’re going to find a lot of music.”

The singer, whose real name is Robert Sylvester Kelly, faces another federal grand jury for racketeering in New York. He also has a state trial in Cook County, Illinois. R. Kelly remains detained without bond at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Chicago.

DC Mayor Bowser Provides Another Update On Coronavirus

DC Mayor Muriel Bowser is considering a public health emergency to help contain the spread of the coronavirus in the District. She says she will make a finael decision later today.

Washington, D.C. – (March 9, 2019) – The outbreak of the coronavirus has officials across the DMV scrambling to keep pace.  In the District, Mayor Muriel Bowser held another press conference this morning to update residents and the media on the impact in DC.  The efforts come as the District had to close two schools today.  The School Without Walls High School and DC International were shut as a precaution for a thorough cleaning.  Christ Church of Georgetown was also shutdown over the weekend after it was learned a church official has the virus.

The mayor today called on persons who have visited the Christ Church Georgetown in DC on February 24th or between February 28th – March 3rd to self-quarantine for 14 days.  Persons who exhibit any symptoms is asked to call DC Health at 202-576-1117 or if you have questions to email coronavirus@dc.gov.

Bowers says she is considering a pubic health emergency and will make a final decision by today.  Thus far, two cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in DC.

Virginia Passes Anti-Hair Discrimination Law

On Wednesday March 4, Gov. Ralph Northam finally signed House Bill 1514 and banned, according to NBC 12,  “discrimination based on traits associated with race, including ‘hair texture, hair type, and protective hairstyles such as braids, locks and twists.'”

Virginia has reportedly joined California, New York and New Jersey as the fourth state to ban natural hair discrimination in workplaces and schools. On Wednesday March 4, Gov. Ralph Northam finally signed House Bill 1514 and banned, according to NBC 12,  “discrimination based on traits associated with race, including ‘hair texture, hair type, and protective hairstyles such as braids, locks and twists.'”

Gov. Northam released an official statement: “It’s pretty simple—if we send children home from school because their hair looks a certain way, or otherwise ban certain hairstyles associated with a particular race—that is discrimination…This is not only unacceptable and wrong, it is not what we stand for in Virginia. This bill will make our Commonwealth more equitable and welcoming for all.”

House Bill 1514 is directly supporting the national movement CROWN Act or “Create a Respectful and Open Workplace for Natural Hair Act”, which began after high school students Andrew Johnson from New Jersey and DeAndre Arnold from Texas were targeted at school for having dreadlocks. In December 2018, a video of Johnson’s dreadlocks being cut by a wrestling coach began to circulate. Johnson was ordered to cut his dreadlocks or forfeit the game for no real apparent reason. Referee Alan Maloney was responsible for the discrimination, which was obviously racially motivated due to Maloney’s previous racist actions. In January 2020, Arnold was told that he could not participate in his high school graduation due to his dreadlocks being past his shoulders. He was also told that he could not attend school unless it was in-school suspension until he cut his hair. However, one of the first publicized incidents of hair discrimination was the 1976 case of Jenkins v. Blue Cross Mutual Hospital Insurance, which occurred after Blue Cross employee Beverly Jenkins was denied for a promotion because of her Afro. She sued, using Civil Rights Act of 1964, and won.

House Bill 1514 will take effect on July 1, 2020. According to CNN, “Colorado, Washington and Minnesota are considering passing similar legislation.”

Police Tech Company Adds Live Facial Recognition To Bodycam Line, Begins Testing

Wolfcom CEO Peter Austin Onruang says facial recognition tech is “to help officers identify missing persons, fugitives, suspects, and people with outstanding warrants.”

Contributed by Kevin Jackson

Police tech manufacturer Wolfcom has gained attention recently for a dubious development. The company, responsible for selling dash and body cameras in addition to other police equipment, has contracts with over 1,500 agencies around the world. But they’re raising eyebrows for one of the features on their new line of body cameras: live facial recognition.

Wolfcom’s new Halo body camera boasts “Realtime Facial Recognition” for quickly identifying persons in the field. As OneZero reports, the camera, to be paired with a password-protected companion Android app, is already being beta tested with two Los Lunas PD officers in New Mexico. Released emails from company CEO Peter Austin Onruang state the technology is designed “to help officers identify missing persons, fugitives, suspects, and people with outstanding warrants.” OneZero reports the app has been downloaded 6 times and could already be in use in other departments. Wolfcom has promised beta-testing departments that they would have free access to the technology in the future.

The decision is a controversial one, with many in the tech intelligence field citing ethical concerns. Leading bodycam company Axon announced in 2019 that it would not use the technology, stating they “believe it is critical for technology leaders to work hard to understand the ethical, legal, and community implications for new technologies that are too new to be effectively covered by existing law.”

At this point, Wolfcom has not shown the intent to market the Halo line with full facial recognition. However, their website offers a free trial for qualifying police agencies.

DC Confirms 1st Case of the Coronavirus

DC Mayor Muriel Bower confirms the first case of COVID-19 has been reported in the District. She says she is not declaring a state of emergency at this time.

Washington, D.C. (Saturday, March 7, 2020) – The District of Columbia has become the latest area with a confirmed case of the coronavirus.  Mayor Muriel Bowser made the official announcement this evening at a press conference at the Wilson Building in NW.

The victim is reported to be a DC man in his 50s who has not apparently traveled abroad.  “At this point, he appears to have no history of international travel and no close contacts with a confirmed case,” said Bowser.  The man has been hospitalized since March 5th.  Officials are now trying to retrace his steps to see who he may have come in contact with in recent weeks.

Meantime, the mayor says she is NOT declaring a state of emergency in the District at this time.  The mayor made the announcement flanked by a team of city officials, including representatives from the DC Department of Health, Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security, and Forensic Science.

DC Health is coordinating closely with the health team where this person is currently being treated and all infection control protocols are being followed.  While this is the first case in the District, officials say there is still no widespread community transmission and the general level of risk for residents is low.

Because human coronaviruses most commonly spread through respiratory droplets, DC officials are reminding residents to take the same measures that are recommended annually to prevent the spread of the flu and other viruses.

  • Get your flu shot, and make sure the people around you do the same.
  • Wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds multiple times a day. If soap and water are not available, use alcohol-based hand gel.
  • Cough or sneeze into your elbow or upper sleeve. Cover your coughs and sneezes to prevent others from getting sick.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth. Germs spread this way.
  • Keep surfaces (especially bedside tables, surfaces in the bathroom, and toys for children) clean by wiping them down with a household disinfectant.

DC Health does not recommend that healthy individuals wear a facemask to protect themselves from respiratory illnesses, including COVID-19. Residents should only wear a mask if recommended by a healthcare professional. A facemask should be used by people who have COVID-19 and are showing symptoms. This is to protect others from the risk of getting infected.

DC Health Issues Updated Coronavirus Testing Guidelines

District health officials are following new CDC guidelines on testing residents for the coronavirus

Washington, D.C. (Friday, March 6, 2020) – The District’s Department of Health has released updated coronavirus (COVID-19) testing mandates for all DC healthcare providers.  The new guidelines are based on updates from the CDC earlier this week.  Under the new guidance, only patients who exhibit certain symptoms and meet other criteria will be tested for the virus.

The District, like Maryland and Virginia, now has its own ability to test for COVID-19.  That means test results can be determined in a matter of hours instead of days.

In a statement released to the press today, the Health Department said specific Persons Under Investigation (PUI) who fall under specified criteria based on exposure and clinical factors and who are pre-approved by DC Health will be tested through the DC Department of Forensic Sciences Public Health Laboratory (DFS PHL).

Persons Under Investigation (PUIs) in the District will be tested based on the following criteria:

  • Having fever or signs/symptoms of lower respiratory illness (e.g. cough or shortness of breath)AND any person, including health care personnel who has had close contact with a laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 patient within 14 days of symptom onset
  • Having fever or signs/symptoms of lower respiratory illness (e.g. cough or shortness of breath)AND a history of travel to a country with a Level 2 or 3 Travel Advisory OR an area with confirmed ongoing community transmission, within 14 days of symptom onset
  • Having fever or signs/symptoms of lower respiratory illness (e.g. cough or shortness of breath)AND a history of residing in a nursing home or long-term care facility within 14 days of symptom onset

The DC Health Department also issued this advisory for residents who traveled.

  •  Residents who traveled to a Level 3 country should stay home for 14 days from the time they left the area(s) with widespread and ongoing community spread and practice social distancing.
  • Residents who traveled to a Level 2 country are to limit contact with others and monitor your health for 14 days after returning to the United States.
  • Residents who may experience any symptoms related to COVID-19, while practicing social distancing, should contact their healthcare provider.

To stay up to date on Level 2 and 3 countries visit https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/index.html.

To date, there have been no confirmed cases of the coronavirus in the District although one test result is pending.

Nathaniel Woods Executed Despite Stay Granted By Supreme Court

“I’m the person that shot and killed all three of the officers that Nathaniel was subsequently charged and convicted of murdering,” Kerry Spencer states in open letter about Nathaniel Woods, executed Thursday night.

Contributed by Kevin Jackson

The state of Alabama proceeded with its execution of Nathaniel Woods at 9:01p.m. on Thursday, CNN reports. Woods was a Death Row inmate for his part in a 2004 drug bust-turned-murder that took the lives of three Birmingham, Alabama police officers. While the Supreme Court had granted a temporary stay of execution earlier Thursday, Woods was administered the lethal injection just hours later, as Alabama governor Kay Ivey reviewed the case and decided to proceed.

On June 17, 2004, four officers approached the drug house to arrest Woods on an outstanding warrant. When the officers pursued Woods into the house, Kerry Spencer opened fire, killing three officers. Woods was accused of luring the officers to their deaths and charged with capital murder. Reports allege that Woods ran during the fatal shooting.

Woods’ family insists that Kerry Spencer was the sole person responsible. Supporters of Woods, including activist Martin Luther King III and Kim Kardashian-West, advocated to the State of Alabama on his behalf. “Nate is absolutely innocent,” claims Spencer in an open letter, “I know this to be a fact because I’m the person that shot and killed all three of the officers that Nathaniel was subsequently charged and convicted of murdering.”

“Governor Ivey does not presently intend to exercise her powers of commutation or reprieve in this case,” general counsel William G. Parker Jr. wrote.

‘Black Panther 2’ To Be Released In 2022

Black Panther’s sequel has finally been confirmed and given an official release date: May 2022.

Contributed by Diamond Bullock

Black Panther‘s sequel has finally been confirmed and given an official release date: May 2022.

Fans were introduced to Wakanda in 2018’s Black Panther. The film was a box office hit, earning, according to CNN, $40.16 million on Presidents’ Day in 2018. The film made history for Black Hollywood, winning three Academy Awards in 2019 for Best Costume Design, Best Production Design, and Best Original Score. In 2019, they were also nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards along with Best Motion Picture and Best Original Score at the Golden Globe Awards, Best Cinematography and Best Acting Ensemble at the Critics’ Choice Awards, and more.

Ryan Coogler will return as director and writer of the sequel along with, according to Screen Rant, cast members Chadwick Boseman, Letitia Wright, Danai Gurira, Angela Bassett, and Martin Freeman. However, there have been rumors that Boseman may not reprise his role as T’Challa because of a potential plotline where Wright’s character Shuri will become the Black Panther. Boseman has not confirmed the rumor. Black Panther producer Nate Moore reportedly stated in an interview that Black Panther is not a specific person and the character can belong to anyone.

Although the confirmation of the release date is new, just last year Boseman started the buzz about a sequel and posted a photo on his Instagram along with a caption reading “May 6, 2022”:

Boseman will also be reprising his role as T’Challa in Avengers 5, which is still up in the air. No release date or cast list has been confirmed. Both Avengers 5 and Black Panther 2 will be included in Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 5.

Usher has recently been dropping several hints of a new album, many of which reportedly believe to be a sequel to his 2004 diamond-certified album Confessions.

The buzz surrounding the alleged album began in March 2019 with Usher’s Instagram post of him sitting in So So Def Studios with a board reading ‘Confessions 2’, captioned “Dis what y’all want…” Usher continued to add to the buzz by playing what appeared to be new music on Jermaine Dupri’s Instagram live story the same month.

Almost a year later, Usher touched the stage to perform a new song at Live from the Cricket Lounge in Los Angeles on Feb 24. The song was introduced as Confessions Pt III, a reported prequel to Pt I and II. Usher sang: “Remember that time I was sitting up sick, couldn’t sleep in the middle of the night? / You said, ‘Babe, let me take you to the ER’ / I said, ‘Nah, Ima be alright’ / Well, the next day I found out from f**kin’ around that the sickness I had was life / And I was fixed to keeping the decision to keep it / Knowing I had to get rid of it.” Additionally, before beginning the performance, Usher vaguely announced the new album.

On Mar 4, Usher appeared on Ellen to discuss new ventures, including his upcoming movie Burden. Ellen asked what the fans really want to know: “When are you coming out with new music?” Usher answered “Soon.”

There is no confirmation of a date, a tracklist, or possible features. Fans must continue to rely on Usher’s hints until an official announcement is delivered.

Mattel Releases Diverse Black Barbies

Mattel has released 10 Black Barbie dolls with different hair styles, skin tones and body types in honor of Black History Month.

Mattel has released 10 Black Barbie dolls with different hair styles, skin tones and body types in honor of Black History Month. Included in the Barbie Style collection, these new Barbies were created by Bermudan stylist and costume designer Shiona Turini, who recently worked on 2019’s Queen and Slim.

Turini posted about the new collection on her Instagram saying “I grew up obsessed with Barbie and while she was one of my first fashion icons, I clearly remember searching shelves for a doll that looked like me and coming up empty-handed”:

Black Barbie dressed in… || I grew up obsessed with @barbie and while she was one of my first fashion icons, I clearly remember searching shelves for a doll that looked like me and coming up empty handed. The first black Barbie was introduced in 1980 – in a sparkly red dress with an Afro pick in her hair. Here she is, on her customized throne, surrounded by friends created and styled by me. I hope other young children, and adult Barbie lovers, are as excited to see themselves reflected in these dolls as I am. Thank you @barbiestyle – for collaborating with me to create barbies with braids, finger waves and everything in between. Chicks by the layers, all different flavors. And even a curvy doll, in a crop top, with waist length twists. Baby Shiona is PROUD. Representation matters and I’m so grateful to be a part of this moment.

A post shared by Shiona Turini (@shionat) on

Turini channeled the first Black Barbie from 1980 as well as costumes from Queen & Slim to create stylish looks for the Barbies. The looks follow three color schemes: monochromatic, snakeskin with black and white, and pastel colors. However, only the dolls are for sale; the outfits were just created for marketing purposes. The dolls wear hairstyles popular within the Black community including finger waves, twists, braids, afros, etc.

According to the New York Post, these Barbies are a part of the consistent rollout of diverse Barbies. Mattel has been recently releasing many Barbies of “different sizes, colors, abilities and professions,” and has even released a gender-neutral Barbie as well as a Judge Barbie.

Coronavirus Pop-Up Shop Opens in DC

Patrom says she stocked up after studying what was most in need in China. A distributor in New York provided her with 2,000 surgical masks, and she ordered a large supply of other products online from Dollar Tree

Contributed by Tanyia Foster

While just about everyone is panicking over the CoronavirusAdilisha Patrom has found a way to help them stay protected, and make profit; by opening a Coronavirus pop-up shop in Washington, D.C,.

Adilsha Patrom is a graduate of Howard University, and owner of Galaxy 5000. She decided to turn the empty store front next door to her business, into the location for a Coronavirus pop-up shop. She placed an advertisement outside that says, “limited stock protective face mask.”

The pop-up shop sells the most common things you would be looking for to protect yourself against the virus. Hand sanitizer, gloves and face mask  which have been especially hard to get your hands on since the outbreak has grown.

WAMU reports, the pop-up shop was inspired by Patrom’s personal experience with her ill father.

“My dad was diagnosed with cancer back in November. Since then, his doctors have educated us on the importance of face masks, and the different type of face masks, because we were doing it all wrong,” she says. “That just burst in me… what can I do to help people in the community that may not have the resources to go online as well if stores are sold out, where can they go locally?”

When it came to using face mask as precaution against the Coronavirus, Patrom says she stocked up after studying what was most in need in China. A distributor in New York provided her with 2,000 surgical masks, and she ordered a large supply of other products online from Dollar Tree, according to the Washingtonian.

People are being encouraged to follow safety measures given by the CDC, but if you need a little extra protection, the Coronavirus Pop-up Shop is located  at 1002B Florida Avenue, Northeast, in Washington, D.C.

Governor Hogan Announces Coronavirus Has Hit Maryland

The coronavirus has been confirmed in three patients in Maryland. Governor has declared a state of emergency.

Annapolis, Maryland (Thursday, March 5, 2020) – The coronavirus has officially hit the DMV with three cases reported in Montgomery County, Maryland.  Two of the victims are a husband and wife in their 70s.  The third victim is reported to be in her 50s.  All three victims had traveled abroad and are being quarantined.

Maryland’s public health laboratory in Baltimore confirmed the cases.  Governor Larry Hogan has declared a state of emergency, but urged residents not to panic. “I encourage all Marylanders not to panic but to take this seriously and to stay informed as we continue to provide updates,” said Hogan.

A Prince George’s County grand jury has indicted a county police officer in the shooting death of a DC man back in January.   County State’s Attorney Aisha Braveboy announced today that 31-year-old Corporal Michael Owen is charged with 2nd degree murder, manslaughter, use of a handgun, 1st degree assault and misconduct in office for the death of 43-year-old William Green.  Green was handcuffed in the front seat of a police cruiser in Temple Hills.  Braveboy says there was movement in the front seat of the cruiser before that shooting and that Green did have PCP in his system, but how much is not known, pending toxicology reports.

DC Cherry Blossoms Peak Bloom End Of March

Cherry Blossoms are expected to hit peak bloom in Washington, DC March 27-3. National Cherry Blossoms Festival will be held directly after.

Contributed by Tanyia Foster

National Park Service officials predict DC Cherry Blossom will be at peak bloom March 27-30.

Japanese Cherry Blossom trees were gifted to Washington, DC,  from Mayor Yukio Ozaki of Tokyo City, back in 1912. The Cherry Blossoms are known to be a yearly symbolization of the coming of Spring.

According to the National Park Service,

“The peak bloom date is defined as the day when 70% of the Yoshino Cherry (Prunus x yedoensis) blossoms are open. Peak bloom varies annually depending on weather conditions. The most likely time to reach peak bloom is between the last week of March and the first week of April. Extraordinary warm or cool temperatures have resulted in peak bloom as early as March 15 (1990) and as late as April 18 (1958).”

Every year, after the trees have hit peak bloom, DC holds the National Cherry Blossom Festival. This year the festival will take place March 20 to April 2.

Former PBS Host Tavis Smiley Ordered To Pay $1.5 Million

“Smiley vigorously pursued her, sent salacious notes to her and left keys for her to his hotel room under the guise of business.”

Contributed by Tanyia Foster

Former PBS talk show host Tavis Smiley, was ordered by a Washington, D.C, jury to pay nearly $1.5 million to his former employer for violating his contract, in sexual misconduct allegations.

Smiley was fired from PBS in 2017 after they received allegations from several females at the workplace, accusing him of misconduct. Following his termination, he sued PBS in 2018, claiming that the real reason he was fired was due to racial discrimination. According to the Washington Post, “Smiley has acknowledged that he had romantic relationships with colleagues over his 30-year career as a speaker, TV host and author, but that these were always consensual.”

PBS countered this argument, presenting video statements from  six women testifying against Smiley. The Hollywood Reporter shares several of these statements, one of the woman said,  “Smiley vigorously pursued her, sent salacious notes to her and left keys for her to his hotel room under the guise of business.”

This week, the jury has come to a verdict, ordering Smiley to pay $1.486 million to PBS for violating their moral clauses.

According to NPR, PBS issued a statement saying the network was pleased with the jury’s decision.

“PBS expects our producing partners to provide a workplace where people feel safe and are treated with dignity and respect,” the network said. “It was important for us to ensure that the courageous women who came forward were able to share their stories and that we continue to uphold the values and standards of our organization.”

Warren Ends 2020 Presidential Bid After Super Tuesday Rout

Warren’s exit extinguished hopes that Democrats would get another try at putting a woman up against President Donald Trump.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Elizabeth Warren, who electrified progressives with her “plan for everything” and strong message of economic populism, dropped out of the Democratic presidential race on Thursday, according to a person familiar with her plans. The exit came days after the onetime front-runner couldn’t win a single Super Tuesday state, not even her own.

The Massachusetts senator hasn’t endorsed Bernie Sanders or Joe Biden, the leading candidates in the race. But she has talked to both campaigns in recent days and is assessing who would best uphold her agenda, according to another person who requested anonymity to discuss private conversations.

The people weren’t authorized to speak about Warren’s intentions publicly and talked to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity.

Warren’s exit extinguished hopes that Democrats would get another try at putting a woman up against President Donald Trump.

For much of the past year, her campaign had all the markers of success, robust poll numbers, impressive fundraising and a sprawling political infrastructure that featured staffers on the ground across the country. She was squeezed out, though, by Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, who had an immovable base of voters she needed to advance.

Warren never finished higher than third in the first four states and was routed on Super Tuesday, failing to win any of the 14 states voting and placing an embarrassing third in Massachusetts, behind former Vice President Joe Biden and Sanders.

Her exit from the race following Sen. Amy Klobuchar’s departure leaves the Democratic field with just one female candidate: Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, who has collected only one delegate toward the nomination. It was an unexpected twist for a party that had used the votes and energy of women to retake control of the House, primarily with female candidates, just two years ago.

Warren’s campaign began with enormous promise that she could carry that momentum into the presidential race. Last summer, she drew tens of thousands of supporters to Manhattan’s Washington Square Park, a scene that was repeated in places like Washington state and Minnesota.

She had a compelling message, calling for “structural change” to the American political system to reorder the nation’s economy in the name of fairness. She had a signature populist proposal for a 2% wealth tax she wanted to impose on households worth more than $50 million that prompted chants of “Two cents! Two cents!” at rallies across the country.

Warren, 70, began her White House bid polling near the back of an impossibly crowded field, used wonky policy prowess to rocket to front-runner status by the fall, then saw her support evaporate almost as quickly.

Her candidacy appeared seriously damaged almost before it started after she released a DNA test in response to goading by Trump to prove she had Native American ancestry. Instead of quieting critics who had questioned her claims, however, the test offended many tribal leaders who rejected undergoing the genetic test as culturally insensitive, and it didn’t stop Trump and other Republicans from gleefully deriding her as “Pocahontas.”

Warren also lost her finance director over her refusal to attend large fundraisers, long considered the financial life blood of national campaigns. Still, she distinguished herself by releasing dozens of detailed proposals on all sorts of policies from cancelling college debt to protecting oceans to containing the coronavirus. Warren also was able to build an impressive campaign war chest relying on mostly small donations that poured in from across the country — erasing the deficit created by refusing to court big, traditional donors.

As her polling began improving through the summer. Warren appeared to further hit her stride as she hammered the idea that more moderate Democratic candidates, including Biden, weren’t ambitious enough to roll back Trump’s policies and were too reliant on political consultants and fickle polling. And she drew strength in the #MeToo era, especially after a wave of female candidates helped Democrats take control of the U.S. House in 2018.

But Warren couldn’t consolidate the support of the Democratic Party’s most liberal wing against the race’s other top progressive, Sanders. Both supported universal, government-sponsored health care under a “Medicare for All” program, tuition-free public college and aggressive climate change fighting measures as part of the “Green New Deal” while forgoing big fundraisers in favor of small donations fueled by the internet.

Warren’s poll numbers began to slip after a series of debates when she repeatedly refused to answer direct questions about if she’d have to raise taxes on the middle class to pay for Medicare for All. Her top advisers were slow to catch on that not providing more details looked to voters like a major oversight for a candidate who proudly had so many other policy plans.

When Warren finally moved to correct the problem, her support eroded further. She moved away from a full endorsement of Medicare for All, announcing that she’d work with Congress to transition the country to the program over three years. In the meantime, she said, many Americans could “choose” to remain with their current, private health insurance plans, which most people have through their employers. Biden and other rivals pounced, calling Warren a flip-flopper, and her standing with progressives sagged.

Sanders, meanwhile, wasted little time capitalizing on the contrast by boasting that he would ship a full Medicare for All program for congressional approval during his first week in the White House. After long avoiding direct conflict, Warren and Sanders clashed in January after she said Sanders had suggested during a private meeting in 2018 that a woman couldn’t win the White House. Sanders denied that, and Warren refused to shake his outstretched hand after a debate in Iowa.

Leaning hard into the gender issue only saw Warren’s support sink further heading into Iowa’s leadoff caucus, however. But even as her momentum was slipping away, Warren still boasted impressive campaign infrastructure in that state and well beyond. Her army of volunteers and staffers looked so formidable that even other presidential candidates were envious.

Just before Iowa, her campaign released a memo detailing its 1,000-plus staffers nationwide and pledging a long-haul strategy that would lead to victories in the primary and the general election. Bracing for a poor finish in New Hampshire, her campaign issued another memo again urging supporters to stay focus on the long game — but also expressly spelling out the weaknesses of Sanders, Biden and Pete Buttigieg, the former mayor of South Bend, Indiana, in ways the senator herself rarely did.

Warren got a foil for all of her opposition to powerful billionaires when former New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg entered the race. During a debate in Las Vegas just before Nevada’s caucus, Warren hammered Bloomberg and the mayor’s lackluster response touched off events that ended with him leaving the race on Wednesday.

For Warren, That led to a sharp rise in fundraising, but didn’t translate to electoral success. She tried to stress her ability to unite the fractured Democratic party, but that message fell flat.

By South Carolina, an outside political group began pouring more than $11 million into TV advertising on Warren’s behalf, forcing her to say that, although she rejected super PACs, she’d accept their help as long as other candidates did. Her campaign shifted strategy again, saying it was betting on a contested convention.

Still the longer Warren stayed in the race, the more questions she faced about why she was doing so with little hope of winning — and she started to sound like a candidate who was slowly coming to terms with that.

“I’m not somebody who has been looking at myself in the mirror since I was 12 years old saying, ‘You should run for president,’” Warren said aboard her campaign bus on the eve of the New Hampshire primary, previewing a ceasing of campaigning that wasn’t yet official. “I started running for office later than anyone who is in this, so it was never about the office — it was about what we could do to repair our economy, what we could do to mend a democracy that’s being pulled apart. That’s what I want to see happen, and I just want to see it happen.”

She vowed to fight on saying, “I cannot say, for all those little girls, this got hard and I quit. My job is to persist.”

But even that seemed impossible after a Super Tuesday drubbing that included her home state.

Nene Leakes Admits Wendy Williams Shut Down Reality Star’s Talk Show

“It didn’t hurt my feelings. At that time in my life, I think it really taught me how the industry is. It’s a dirty world,” said Leakes.

Contributed by Jordyn Fields

Nene Leakes stopped by a popular radio show Wednesday, while doing press in NY, yesterday and talked about the talk show Leakes was supposed to previously have.

“I remember you were supposed to have a talk show with Bob Mercury who also produces Wendy’s show and Wendy and Kev blocked [it],” the radio host mentioned.

Leakes reveled she feels as though Wendy Williams‘ former husband, Kevin Hunter, was toxic was the one who pushed for the cancelation of her show.

“It didn’t hurt my feelings. At that time in my life, I think it really taught me how the industry is. It’s a dirty world,” said Leakes.

Leakes also said that she and Hunter never had a good relationship, she says that she never thought he was right for Williams and he was never nice to her.

Leakes says she never spoke to Williams about the incident but is willing to repair the bond.

“She can make that good again. Sometimes people are intimidated. They think you’re gonna come up and do more than they do. I’m not sure. But I know that it was scrapped, that’s true. I just… never tried to have a conversation with her.”

Nicki Minaj’s Husband Surrenders To Authorities

Minaj’s husband, Kenneth Petty, moved to Los Angeles in July of 2019 before his October marriage. Sex offenders are legally required to update their registration any time they get a new job, commit a federal crime, move or go to school.

Nicki Minaj’s new husband self surrendered to U.S. Marshal’s yesterday after not registering as a sex offender in California.

Minaj’s husband, Kenneth Petty, moved to Los Angeles in July of 2019 before his October marriage. Sex offenders are legally required to update their registration any time they get a new job, commit a federal crime, move or go to school.

The 41-year-old is a Level 2 sex offender. He is considered to be at medium risk for reoffending after he was convicted of first degree rape and assault in 1995. He served four years in prison in 1994 and another 10 months in 2006 after pleading guilty to first degree manslaughter.

Minaj previously came to Petty’s defense stating, “He was 15, she was 16. In a relationship,But go awf Internet. Y’all can’t run my life. Y’all can’t even run y’all own life. Thank you boo.”

Petty has pleaded not guilty to this recent case against him. The trial is set for April 28, 2020.

Minaj has yet to respond.

R Kelly To Enter Plea To Reworked Federal Charges In Chicago

Thursday’s arraignment could be an opportunity for prosecutors to offer additional details about the new accuser and her allegations against the Grammy Award-winning artist.

CHICAGO (AP) — R&B singer R. Kelly is due in federal court on Thursday in Chicago to enter a plea to an updated federal indictment that includes sex abuse allegations involving a new accuser.

Kelly, 53, is expected to plead not guilty to a 13-count superseding indictment unsealed last month that includes multiple counts of child pornography.

The reworked charging document is largely the same as the original indictment — which also had 13 counts — but includes a reference to a new accuser, referred to only as “Minor 6.”

Thursday’s arraignment could be an opportunity for prosecutors to offer additional details about the new accuser and her allegations against the Grammy Award-winning artist.

The hearing could also be a chance for U.S. District Judge Harry Leinenweber to push back the trial date. Kelly’s attorneys have said previously they couldn’t be prepared for trial by April 27, which remained the official trial date.

Kelly, who has denied ever abusing anyone, faces several dozen counts of state and federal sexual misconduct charges in Illinois, Minnesota and New York, from sexual assault to heading a racketeering scheme aimed at supplying Kelly with girls.

Kelly was jailed in July and has been awaiting trial at a Chicago federal jail a block from the courthouse where he attends pretrial hearings. He has participated in hearings in his New York case by video.

The federal charges in Chicago accuse Kelly of filming himself having sex with underage girls and of paying off potential witnesses in his 2008 trial — at which he was acquitted — to get them to change their stories.

The day of the hearing has been corrected to Thursday from Friday in the fourth paragraph.

DC Homeless Man Set Ablaze

DC homeless man was set on fire outside a 7-Eleven Wednesday morning. Victim is in the hospital with burns to the lower part of this body while arson investigators look for suspects and motives.

Washington, D.C. (Thursday, March 5, 2020) – Homeless advocates in the District of Columbia say living on the streets is becoming increasingly dangerous.  That statement comes as DC police are looking for suspects in an incident in which a homeless man was set on fire as he slept outside a 7-Eleven store at 3146 Mount Pleasant Street in NW.

According to reports, the man was sleeping when he woke up to find himself engulfed in flames on the lower part of his body.

The victim has not been identified.  But reports indicate he was taken to a local hospital to be treated with non-life threatening injuries.

Homeless advocates tell WHUR that the homeless are often attacked in the District by those trying to pull a prank and by those who find the homeless to be a nuisance to their community.
