Jan. 6 Committee Refers Criminal Charges Against Trump To DOJ

The panel is recommending the DOJ investigate him for inciting an insurrection, conspiracy to defraud the U.S., conspiracy to make a false statement and obstruction of an official proceeding.

(Washington, DC) — The House committee investigating last year’s attack on the Capitol is referring criminal charges against former President Trump to the Department of Justice. The panel is recommending the DOJ investigate him for inciting an insurrection, conspiracy to defraud the U.S., conspiracy to make a false statement and obstruction of an official proceeding. The referrals mark the culmination of the investigation into the January 6th, 2021 attack and the role Trump played before, during and after the riot. Maryland Congressman Jamie Raskin said the evidence is more than sufficient to make the referrals.

Despite the panel’s action, the Department of Justice isn’t required to look into referrals from congressional committees. The agency is also currently conducting its own separate investigation into the Capitol riot.

Fathers, Sons and Affection

Can father’s show too much affection towards a son? How much is too much?

Smokie Norful is a Grammy award-winning artist.  But we’re not talking about his music.  We’re talking about an old photo that’s getting new life and new criticism on social media.  It’s the photo of Norful and his son, 16-years-old at the time… in an embrace on a sofa.  The son appears to be sleeping.
Why is there still criticism of this photo?  Can father’s show too much affection towards a son? How much is too much?

Avatar: The Way of the Water is well worth the wait.

James Cameron long awaited sequel is (pun-intended) breath-taking.

Heading into the early screening of Avatar: The Way of the Water I was admittedly hesitant as to how good the 3 hour and 15 minute sequel could be. Within the first 10 minutes, all my worries subsided as the trademark visuals reminiscent of the first installment were brought to the screen with even more vibrancy and flare. The 3-D simply add more punch and wow factor to already beautiful scenes. Apparently the 13 year wait for this movie was due to the lack of proper technology to create the underwater scenes properly. It was worth the wait.

The story picks up where the first ended, offering a quick synopsis of the prequel and explaining the development of the Navi tribe with their new leader.  We’re introduced to new characters as well as catching up on many of our favorites from before. Jake (Sam Worthington)  and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) have grown considerably and now have a family of their own whom take centerstage.

The villain in this film is introduced in a creative way that carries its own sense of evolution. Humanity’s capitalistic and greedy nature are again the driving force for disruption on the planet of Pandora.  The introduction of the Metkayina clan (water tribe) makes for a layer of adaptation the Omaticaya (forest tribe) family must embrace for survival as they’re sought out by a ramped up villain, hellbent on their destruction.

(L-R): Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), Ronal (Kate Winslet), and Tonowari (Cliff Curtis) in 20th Century Studios’ AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER. © 2022 20th Century Studios. All Rights Reserved.

Outside of the primary conflict, there are internal conflicts within the family as the children grow and search for their own identity and role within the tribe. The Na’vi’s connection to the animal life are beautifully portrayed and again become pivotal relationships in the movie.

For those that enjoyed the first movie, this is a definite upgrade and will again take you away to the fantasy driven world of stunning visual effects, above and below the water. For those looking for deeper politics and insight into societal behaviors, you may struggle to find what you’re looking for. I’ve seen others complain about the simplicity of the story and plot, but I simply wasn’t looking for a “deep” movie. It was entertaining, a visual masterpiece, and I believe trying to explain everything from a sociopolitical viewpoint would have led to significant lulls in the film.

So overall, I give this film a 8.5 out of 10. I can see they plan to have more installments as the very end was a bit questionable and cliché. But it was fun and I encourage you to check it out. With mild profanity and the levels of violence, I would recommend for those 12 and up.

Booster Vaccine Available for Infants at DC Health Centers

DC Health is encouraging residents of all ages to be up to date on their COVID-19 and flu vaccinations and boosters in order to protect their friends and family this holiday season.

Washington, D.C. (Wednesday, December 14, 2022) – Trying to get ahead of a possible holiday surge, DC Health COVID Centers are now making the COVID-19 bivalent booster vaccine available for infants 6 months and older.

Health officials say the bivalent booster vaccine provides protection against the original COVID-19 virus and the new, more contagious Omicron variants. Both the Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 bivalent boosters are available to infants 6 months and older.

The Pfizer bivalent vaccine is recommended for individuals 6 months to 4 years of age as the third dose to complete the primary series, at least two months since their last shot. A booster dose is not authorized for children in this age group who already completed the Pfizer 3-dose primary series. The Pfizer bivalent booster is also available to individuals 5 years of age or older, regardless of which vaccine was taken for their primary series or booster as long as it has been at least two months since they have completed their primary vaccination series or since they have received the most recent COVID-19 booster dose.

The Moderna bivalent vaccine is recommended for individuals 6 months to 5 years if they received the Moderna vaccine as their primary series and it has been at least two months since their last dose. The Moderna bivalent booster is also available to individuals 6 years of age or older, regardless of which vaccine was taken for their primary series or booster as long as it has been at least two months since they have completed their primary vaccination series or since they have received the most recent COVID-19 booster dose.

DC Health continues to emphasize that the most important thing residents can do to protect themselves and their families from COVID-19 and the flu this holiday season is to be up to date with their vaccinations. There are many opportunities to get your COVID-19 booster and flu vaccines in the District:

  • Visit a pharmacy, walk-up vaccine clinic, or COVID Center
  • Make an appointment with your healthcare provider
  • Home vaccination appointments are available for people with limited mobility by visiting coronavirus.dc.gov or calling 855-363-0333

Richmond Removes Last City-Owned Confederate Monument

Many Confederate statues in Virginia were erected decades after the Civil War, during the Jim Crow era.

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — The city of Richmond — the capital of the Confederacy for most of the Civil War — removed its last city-owned Confederate statue on Monday, more than two years after it began to purge itself of what many saw as painful symbols of racial oppression.

It took just minutes to free the statue of Confederate Gen. A.P. Hill from its base, before a crane using yellow straps looped under the statue’s arms lifted it onto a bed of tires on a flatbed truck. After the statue was removed, the crew got to work removing the base. Several dozen people, including neighbors, some of Hill’s indirect descendants and supporters and opponents of the removal, stood in the closed intersection watching the crew work.

Richmond removed its other Confederate monuments amid the racial justice protests that followed George Floyd’s killing in 2020. But efforts to remove the Hill statue, which sat in the middle of a busy intersection near a school, were more complicated because the general’s remains were interred beneath it about 25 years after his death at the end of the Civil War.

Many Confederate statues in Virginia were erected decades after the Civil War, during the Jim Crow era, when states imposed new segregation laws, and during the “Lost Cause” movement, when historians and others tried to depict the South’s rebellion as a fight to defend states’ rights, not slavery. Some Confederate tributes remain in Richmond, but they’re on state land, including on Capitol Square surrounding the Virginia State Capitol building.

Fired Loudoun County Superintendent Indicted

Former Loudoun County Public Schools spokesman Wayde Byard was also indicted.

The former superintendent of the Loudoun County Public School system has been indicted on three misdemeanor charges by a special grand jury that investigated the response to two sexual assaults committed by a student last year.

Former Loudoun County Superintendent Scott Ziegler

The grand jury has also issued a felony perjury indictment against the school system’s primary spokesman.

The indictments against former Superintendent Scott Ziegler and spokesman Wayde Byard follow release of a report last week that faulted the school system in general, and Ziegler in particular, for a lack of transparency about the assaults. It also concluded that the second assault could have been prevented if officials had heeded warning signs in the student’s behavior.

The grand jury was commissioned by Republican Attorney General Jason Miyares after he and Gov. Glenn Youngkin took office at the start of the year. Both criticized the school system during their election campaigns.

The school system sought unsuccessfully to quash the grand jury investigation, calling it politically motivated.

School officials did not immediately respond to a Monday phone call and email seeking comment. Ziegler and Byard are scheduled to make initial appearances in Loudoun County Circuit Court on Tuesday.

Dozens of listeners heeded the call of WHUR personality Coka Lani and dropped off toys, gifts, and monetary donations to spread joy for the holiday season.  “My husband Anthony and I have been doing this now for almost 10 years. All donations are distributed to the following organizations who service families and children in need around the DMV:  Building Bridges Across the River, Family Justice Center of Prince George’s County, Northern Virginia Urban League, YMCA of Metropolitan Washington, Washington Wish List Committee, and Women’s Wing of Washington, DC.

Charges Against Former MI Gov In Flint Water Crisis Thrown Out

Brittney Griner Is Free! Released By Russia In Prisoner Swap For Arms Dealer Viktor Bout

Brittney Griner released by Russia in 1-for-1 prisoner swap for arms dealer Viktor Bout, U.S. official says.

In February, the WNBA star was arrested for having a vape containing cannabis oil, making her the most high-profile American jailed abroad. This is the second deal in eight months with Russia.

In court, Griner admitted to the possession of the canisters but said she had no criminal intent and said their presence in her luggage was due to hasty packing.

The prisoner Bout was described as “the world’s most prolific arms dealer.” He was currently serving a 25-year sentence for what U.S officials said conspiring to sell tens of millions of dollars in weapons that were to be used against Americans.

The swap has been in the works for some time, Biden expressed that Russia and the U.S. would move forward with a deal once the midterm elections were concluded.

President Biden spoke with Griner on the phone Thursday while her wife, Cherelle, was in the Oval Office.

The news comes after Udoka allegedly had an affair with a female co-worker within the Boston Celtics organization. In September Udoka was suspended as head coach of the team, before the season after the alleged relationship was exposed.

Long’s rep says the two are “no longer together but remain fully committed to co-parenting their son.” The couple shares a ten-year-old son.  Long also has a 21-year-old son from a previous relationship.

She shared her feeling on marriage in December 2020 on Essence’s Yes Girl podcast saying,  “Love is complicated … and then you start a marriage, which I’ve never been married. And there’s a reason for that because I don’t know that I need to say ‘I do to prove to you that I love you. But also, what does marriage really [mean] … that you own me now and I own you? I don’t get that part.”

Warnock Beats Herschel Walker To Win Tight Georgia Senate Runoff Election

Georgia’s first Black senator, Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock has defeated Republican Herschel Walker.

The victory earns a six-year term for Warnock and gives Democrats a 51-49 edge in the Senate.

Former President Obama spoke during Warnock’s campaign, mentioning Walker’s debate of “whether it’s better to be a vampire or a werewolf. This is a debate that, I must confess, I once had myself. When I was seven.”

The campaign ran into other moments, when Warnock also made a mockery of the former NFL players false statements claiming he worked as a cop.

Nothing topped the moment when, Senator Lindsey Graham in so many words addressed Walker as a token for the Republican party. “Walker changes the entire narrative… We’re a party of racists, Sean, me and you are racist and the party is racist and what happens when the Republican party elects and nominates Walker.”

Oddly the runoff was close, but Warnock was able to speak with his supporters.“After a hard-fought campaign, or should I say campaigns, it is my honor to utter the four most powerful words ever spoken in a democracy: The people have spoken,” he said.

It’s been two years since the attack on the U.S. Capitol. Officers who were present will be recognized with the highest honor; they will be given Congressional Gold Medals for their bravery during the attack on January 6th.

Traumatizing and terrorizing the dozens of officers who defended and fought the mob of Trump supporters that forced their way into the Capitol will be awarded on January 6th.

Four of those officers testified, describing their near-death experience. Two officers died by suicide days following the riot.

According to NBC ,”the medals will be placed in four locations at U.S. Capitol Police headquarters, the Metropolitan Police Department, the Capitol, and the Smithsonian Institution.”

Biden signed that bill last year to honor these officers, saying, “officers’ heroism cannot be forgotten.”

“It was a violent attempt to overturn the will of the American people, to seek power at all costs, to replace the ballot with brute force. To destroy, not to build. Without democracy, nothing is possible. With it, everything is,” President Biden recalls.
