In an excerpt of Will Smith’s new Memoir ‘Will’ he describes how he once thought about killing his father.
Will Smith‘s new memoir, Will, is set to release next week, Nov. 9th, detailing the life of the actor and explaining his complicated story.
An excerpt was released to People, in which Smith describes secrets, and the traumatic relationship between him and his late father, Will Sr., that he holds onto till this day.
Early on in this book, Smith describes his father, William Carroll Smith Sr., “My father was violent, but he was also at every game, play and recital. He was an alcoholic, but he was sober at every premiere of every one of my movies.”
He writes that his father’s intense want for perfection was what put food on the table and also terrorized his family. His father was married to his mother Caroline Bright, he and his three siblings were raised in Philidelphia. His parents separated when he was a teen and divorced in 2000.
A particular incident that Smith witnessed between his father and his mother scarred him, changing his life forever.
“When I was nine years old, I watched my father punch my mother in the side of her head so hard that she collapsed. I saw her spit blood. That moment in that bedroom, probably more than any other moment in my life, has defined who I am.”
As he said, that moment defined who he was, putting the thought in his mind that he was a coward for never standing up for his mother, even though he was just a child.
Smith goes on to say, ” What you have come to understand as “Will Smith,” the alien-annihilating MC, the bigger-than-life movie star, is largely a construction- a carefully crafted and honed character -designed to protect myself. To hide to myself from the world. To hide the coward.”
The actor writes that his anger and resentment for his father resurfaced years later while Will Sr., who had cancer, was in his care. “One night, as I delicately wheeled him from his bedroom toward the bathroom, a darkness arose within me. The path between the two rooms goes past the top of the stairs. As a child I’d one day avenge my mother.”
Smith tells that at that moment he pictured killing his father. ” I paused at the top of the stairs. I could shove him down, and easily get away with it,” he writes. “As the decades of pain, anger, and resentment coursed then receded, I shook my head and proceeded to wheel Daddio to the bathroom.”
Smith reflected on the relationship between him and his father after his passing in 2016. It taught him the truth about finding fulfillment in the world. “There is nothing that you can receive from the material world that will create inner peace or fulfillment,” he writes. “In the end, it will not matter one single bit how well [people] loved you – you will only gain ‘the SMile’ based on how well you loved them.”

The Bryant Estate will receive an estimated $400 Million after Coca-Cola and Bodyarmor deal.
Monday Coca-Cola bought out BodyArmor for $5.6 billion which means that an estimated $400M will go to the estate of the late basketball star Kobe Bryant.
Bryant, who became a shareholder in BodyArmor in 2013, passed away in 2020 in a tragic helicopter crash. His wife inherited control of his estate which Forbes reported being $600 million at the time of his death. He invested $6 million into the BodyArmor company, resulting in the $400 million dollar payout at the time of sale.
The NBA star told Forbes in 2014, “I put my skin in the fame,” after investing millions to join the Board of Directors. The founder of BodyArmor, Mike Repole said, “If it wasn’t for Kobe Bryant’s vision and belief, BODYARMOR would not have been able to achieve the success we had. I couldn’t be more excited to become part of the Coca-Cola family and set our sights on the future,” in a press release.
His share in BodyArmor was only a small part of his business savvy, Bryant continued to show his knowledge after retiring from the NBA in 2016. He invested in multiple companies and created multiple streams of income.
The acquisition for BodyArmor has been in the works since earlier this year.

Damon Dash and Jay-Z may be working to solve their relationship.
Jay-Z left the ball in Damon Dash’s court after thanking him during his induction speech this past weekend at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony. Damon Dash says he is prepared to end his 20-year feud with the Roc-A-Fella co-founder.
Dash and Jay-Z went through a huge fallout in the early 2000s after starting the record label, Roc-A-Fella Records, together. Over time the two have made jabs at one another through the media and have rarely seen each other for roughly 20 years. These problems seem to be a thing of the past as the two seemingly plan on reconciling their relationship.
Hov thanked many people during his speech, with Dame being one of them. “Shout out to Dame, I know we don’t see eye-to-eye, but I can never erase your accomplishments. And I appreciate you and I thank you for that.”

According to Page Six, Dame was touched, “It was beautiful, I’m glad he said it for the culture. We need to squash everything. So hopefully if that was an extended [olive branch] I’ll spin one back.”
He also went on to say that they should take one on one without lawyers involved. Their recent feud has been a lawsuit against Dash for his attempt in selling Jay-Z’s ‘Reasonable Doubt’ the first album released at Roc-A-Fella records.
Dash congratulates Jay-Z on his accomplishments acknowledging that it is a win for both of them, and it’s huge. Dash says he will forever think of Jay-Z as a brother, “We should not be divided. We have accomplished too much to be beefing… There ain’t no way I’m never gonna [not] consider [him] my brother — it’s just that we don’t see eye-to-eye.”
Hopefully, the two reconcile their differences, Dame believes it’s important for them to move past it and solve the problem. “We can talk it out and the culture needs to see two strong black men working out a problem. Even if they worked together they can go their separate ways they can still be cool.”

Former NFL Player Colin Kaepernick’s Netflix Docuseries sparks conversation over the comparison of the NFL to slavery.
https://youtu.be/ej42P9FTwZg
The new 6 episode limited series Colin in Black and White debuted on Netflix over the weekend. The series, created by former NFL player Colin Kaepernick and filmmaker Ava DuVernay, is causing conversation over a particular scene in which the NFL selection process is compared to a slave auction.
Kaepernick says, “What they don’t want you to understand is what’s being established is a power dynamic… Before they put you on the field, teams poke, prod, and examine you. Searching for any defect that might affect your performance. No boundary respected. No dignity left intact.”
This episode shows a reenactment of the selection process for a team, this includes the team officials examining the players during a combine and as they run drills. The scene then has the players walk off-screen onto an auctioning block in shackles being haggled over and sold to white men.

Opinions came in all forms as people took to social media to discuss their thoughts. Some found controversy in the message and others felt as though it was powerful and needed.
Kaepernick began his activism journey in 2016 where he took a knee during the national anthem in order to protest the injustices of Black people in this country. His peaceful act started the #takeaknee movement and received backlash from those who deemed it disrespectful.

Jay-Z, the first living solo rapper to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
This past Saturday in Cleveland Ohio, Jay-Z was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, making him the first living solo rap artist to be added. The ceremony was full of celebs featuring tributes by comedian Dave Chapelle and Former President of the United States Barack Obama.
The 23-time Grammy award winner is well deserved to be on the shortlist of solo rappers inducted into this Hall of Fame. Others include Tupac Shakur, The Notorious B.I.G., and fellow 2021 inductee LL Cool J.
The night started out with a tribute video to the father of 3, led by his wife Beyonce and their daughter Blue Ivy. The two went back and forth reciting their favorite Jay-Z lyrics. The star-studded tribute video featured DJ Khaled, Sean Combs, Regina King, Jamie Foxx, Dr. Dre, and many many more.
The rapper began his speech by saying, “Thank you, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, for this incredible honor. And you know, growing up, we didn’t think we could be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. We were told that hip-hop was a fad,” During his speech he thanked many including, his mom Gloria Carter, sister Annie, business partners Tyran “Ty Ty” Smith and Damon Dash, and the late Notorious B.I.G.
According to People, The inductee ended his speech with, “Hopefully, I’m informing the next generation that anything is possible. I don’t know what’s next — In fact, I do know what’s next. I have to go to court Monday. There’s good and bad, life is about balance — But you know, tonight, we’re going to enjoy tonight. I appreciate this honor. Sorry for this long-ass speech, but I had to give it up. We did it, Brooklyn!”
Aside from the tribute video, Obama’s remarks came in a separate recording where he goes into how Jay-Z was an important part of his life.
“I’ve turned to Jay-Z’s words at different points in my life, whether I was brushing dirt off my shoulder on the campaign trail, or sampling his lyrics on the Edmund Pettus Bridge on the 50th anniversary of the Selma march to Montgomery,” said the former President.
This was not the first time that Obama has paid tribute to Jay-Z. Back in 2017 Jay-Z was the first rapper to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and at the time Obama said, “I’m pretty sure I’m still the only President to listen to Jay-Z’s music in the Oval Office,” according to NPR.
While Dave Chappelle, who has been under fire for recent controversy regarding transphobia in his newest special, was able to induct Jay- Z in person.
The comedian started off his speech by saying, “I would like to apologize. I’m just f— with you,” and then he got serious and went on to say, “I’m honored that I got a chance to know you.” Chappelle spoke of Jay-Z as the embodiment of Black excellence.
Jay-Z took to Twitter after the Ceremony showing his appreciation for everyone. Saying, “Thank you to everyone in that video package, I’m definitely gonna cry in the car.”

‘Squid Game’ keeps breaking record after record.
The seemingly overnight Netflix sensation Squid Game keeps breaking record after record.
According to Deadline, this series is now the best performing series in the U.S.’s 2021 rankings, surpassing over three billion minutes viewed in a single week’s time. These rankings are for the week of Sept. 27th. Squid Game is the sixth title to ever hit this milestone.
A letter was sent from Netflix to its investors on Oct. 19th expressing its amazement over the show’s success since its debut in September. “A min-boggling 142m member households globally have chosen to watch the title in its first four weeks… The breadth of Squid Game’s popularity is truly amazing.”
The show cost $21.4 million to make and around Oct. 19th has earned an estimated $900 million in revenue. This show has been Netflix’s biggest series ever. Squid games nine episodes accrued a whopping 3.26 billion minutes of viewing the time frame of Sept. 27th to Oct. 3rd.
You know a show is big when Saturday Night Live makes a skit about it. The night show did just that on Oct. 16th, featuring Pete Davidson and guest host Rami Malek.
The idea for Squid Game stems from the personal financial struggles of the creator Hwang-Dong-hyuk.
American plagued by major flight cancellations for 4th day.

Under consideration by the county is a return to mandatory indoor mask wearing starting Wednesday.

Coronavirus deaths globally hit new milestone with the United States leading in overall deaths worldwide.
The United States accounts for over 745,000 of those deaths. That’s the most of any other country. The global death toll is tallied by Johns Hopkins University and is about equal to the populations of San Francisco and Los Angeles combined.
Globally, COVID is now the third leading cause of death behind heart disease and stroke.
The 5 million death toll is likely an undercount because of limited testing and people dying at home without medical assistance, especially in poor parts of the world, like India.
Also leaving are all 6 seasons of Glee.

Tracee Ellis Ross explains her self love journey.
Contributed by Lauren Taylor
As most women know there is a stigma centered around being a single woman, especially for a period of time or at a certain age. Tracee Ellis Ross refuses to live her life feeling pressured by this stigma and the pressures of society.
The 48-year-old actress opened up about living life her way and loving herself as she looked amazing on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar’s November issue. With never being married or having a romantic relationship heavy in the eye of the public people have deemed her “the poster child for being single.” She responds saying, “Great.
