Eric Holder wouldn’t leave his cell on Tuesday (May 11) causing the new judge presiding over his case to push the trial back.
Holder also has a new criminal defense attorney after his former attorney, Lowynn Young, took a judge’s seat.
“A new judge coupled with a new defense attorney can only mean that it will take a few months for them to get caught up on the case,” court officials told The Shade Room.
Do you think Eric Holder will be convicted of Nipsey’s murder?
WASHINGTON – Following a comprehensive national search, Howard University today proudly announces the appointment of Phylicia Rashad as dean of the recently reestablished College of Fine Arts, effective July 1, 2021. In this role, she will report to Provost Anthony K. Wutoh. An alumna of Howard University, Rashad graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s in fine arts.
“It is an honor to welcome one of Howard’s acclaimed daughters back home to Alma Mater. In this full circle moment, Ms. Phylicia Rashad will take the training and skills that she honed as a student at Howard and exuded in an outstanding performing career, and she will share those pearls of wisdom with the next generation of students in the College of Fine Arts. Her passion for the arts and student success makes her a perfect fit for this role,” said Wutoh.
An accomplished actor and stage director, Rashad became a household name when she portrayed Claire Huxtable on “The Cosby Show,” a character whose enduring appeal has earned her numerous honors and awards for over two decades. More recent roles in television and film include appearances as Carol on NBC’s “This Is Us;” Diana Dubois on the Fox TV series “Empire;” Dr. Woods-Trap in Tarrell Alvin McCraney’s Peabody Award-winning series “David Makes Man” on the OWN Network; Libba Gardner in Pixar’s Academy Award-winning animated feature, “Soul;” Grandmother Journey in the Netflix holiday musical “Jingle Jangle;” and Dr. Jones in “Between the World and Me” on HBO Max.
Highlights of an extensive career onstage include performances as Lena Younger in Lorraine Hansberry’s “A Raisin in the Sun;” Aunt Ester in August Wilson’s “Gem of the Ocean;” The Witch in Stephen Sondheim’s “Into the Woods;” Violet Weston in Tracey Letts’ “August Osage County;” and Shelah in Tarrell Alvin McCraney’s “Head of Passes.”
“It is a privilege to serve in this capacity and to work with the Howard University administration, faculty and students in reestablishing the College of Fine Arts,” said Rashad.
Rashad is one of many Howard University alumni who have transformed the arts and entertainment industry through legendary careers on screen and behind the scenes, in front of the microphone and from within the boardroom. Howard’s dedication to cultivating talented artists has had a deep and profound impact on historical and contemporary culture.
Rashad has served as guest lecturer and adjunct faculty member, conducting master’s-level classes at many colleges, universities and arts organizations, including Howard University, New York University, Vassar College, Carnegie Mellon, Wayne State University, Juilliard, The Black Arts Institute of the Stella Adler Studio of Acting and the prestigious Ten Chimneys Foundation established at the Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne Estate. She also holds the distinction of being the first recipient of the Denzel Washington Chair in Theater at Fordham University.
She made her critically acclaimed directorial debut at the Seattle Repertory Theater with August Wilson’s “Gem of the Ocean.” She has also directed Stephen Adly Guirgis’ “Our Lady of 121st Street” at the Signature Theatre; “The Roommate” at Steppenwolf Theatre; “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” and “Joe Turner’s Come and Gone” (winner of the 2014 NAACP Theatre Award for best director) at the Mark Taper Forum; “Immediate Family” at the Taper and Goodman Theatre; “Fences” at the Long Wharf Theatre and McCarter Theatre; “A Raisin in the Sun” at Ebony Repertory Theatre, Kirk Douglas Theatre and Westport Country Playhouse; and “Four Little Girls” at the Kennedy Center.
“I can think of no individual better suited to take on this role than Ms. Phylicia Rashad,” said Howard University President Wayne A. I. Frederick, M.D., MBA. “As we reintroduce our campus community and the world at large to Howard’s College of Fine Arts, the dean will play an instrumental role in ensuring an auspicious beginning for this reestablished institution. Given Ms. Rashad’s reputation as well as her capabilities and impressive list of accomplishments, she will undoubtedly empower the college to transcend even our incredibly high expectations. Under her leadership, Howard will continue to inspire and cultivate the artists and leaders who will shape our niche and national cultures for generations to come.”
Rashad has received the Tony Award, Drama Desk Award, BET Honors Theatrical Arts Award, Chicago Shakespeare Theatre’s Spirit of Shakespeare Award, the inaugural Legacy Award of the Ruben Santiago Hudson Fine Arts Learning Center, and the Lucille Lortel Award. In 2016, Rashad was inducted into the Theater Hall of Fame. Among the other awards that decorate her walls and shelves are the 2018 Will Award from Washington D.C.’s Shakespeare Theatre Company, the 2014 Mosaic Woman Legend Award of Diversity Woman Magazine, the Texas Medal of Arts, the National Council of Negro Women’s Dorothy L. Height Dreammaker Award, People’s Choice Awards, NAACP Image Awards, AFTRA’s AMEE Award for Excellence in Entertainment, New York Women in Film and Television’s Muse Award for Outstanding Vision and Achievement, Dallas Women in Film Topaz Award, and the Pan African Film Festival’s Lifetime Achievement Award.
Rashad also serves on a number of prestigious boards, including Brainerd Institute Heritage (which is steering the restoration of Kumler Hall at the historic site of Brainerd Institute in Chester, South Carolina) and DADA (the Debbie Allen Dance Academy). Since 2017, she has been the brand ambassador of the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund.
Her commitment to excellence in the performing arts and scholarship has been recognized by the numerous colleges and universities that have presented her with honorary doctorates, including Howard University, Spelman College, the University of South Carolina at Columbia, Tuskegee University, Brown University, Bennett College, St. Augustine College, Providence College, Barber Scotia College, Clark Atlanta University, Morris Brown College, Carnegie Mellon University and Fordham University.
NEW YORK (AP) — The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame will induct Jay-Z, Foo Fighters and the Go-Go’s, elected this year on the first ballot. They will join Tina Turner, Carole King and Todd Rundgren as performers ushered into the Rock Hall. The Cleveland-based museum will hold an induction ceremony Oct. 30 in Cleveland’s Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse, before what they hope is a full house paying tribute to the return of live music. The hall is also honoring LL Cool J, Billy Preston, Randy Rhoads, Kraftwerk, Gil Scott Heron and Charley Patton in special categories. The hall announced its 2021 class on Wednesday.
The Isley Brothers will be cemented in history, literally! A New Jersey street will be named after the iconic R&B group this summer.
Teaneck Street in New Jersey was the home to Ron and Rudolph Isley and was the namesake for their record label, “T-Neck Records.”
“It’s a great big wow, for this to happen,” Ernie Isley said. “It’s really humbling and really wonderful.”
The naming ceremony is set for June 24th at 2 PM. Teaneck Street will be renamed, “The Isley Brothers Way.”
Should there be a street in your city that should be renamed after someone famous? What street should be renamed and who would be the honoree?

Gas Stations Running Out as Panicked Drivers Fill-Up
Gas outages are being reported at gas stations in several southern states along the East Coast as panicked drivers fill up in the midst of the Colonial Pipeline crisis.
In Atlanta, 1 in 5 gas stations reported being out of fuel Tuesday evening. The Biden Administration is trying to calm the fears. Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm admits parts of the U.S. will be in for some challenging few days. “We have gasoline. We just have to get it to the right places. And that’s why I think the next couple of days will be challenging.”
Last Friday, hackers virtually shutdown the Colonial Pipeline system, which is responsible for 45 percent of the fuel that moves through the East Coast.
Governors in North Carolina, Georgia, and Virginia have declared states of emergency and have taken steps to relax fuel transport rules in hopes of easing the pain at the pump.
According to several reports, 7 percent of gas station in Virginia, 8 percent in North Carolina and 5 percent in Georgia were without fuel as of Tuesday afternoon.
Officials are calling on motorists not to panic by overwhelming the system by filling up their tanks. But judging by the long lines that message has been falling on deaf ears.

Swizz says that DMX attended one of West’s “Sunday Service” events and Kanye was motivated by love to help out with DMX’s tribute.
“There wasn’t much talking or negotiating,” said Swizz. “It was last minute. That’s why it wasn’t televised when people got in there because the stage was still being built.”
Swizz is putting the finishing touches on X’s posthumous album, “Exodus” out May 28th.
What did you think of DMX’s homegoing?
NEW YORK (AP) — A new album from DMX will be released later this month. DMX’s longtime producer and collaborator, Grammy winner Swizz Beatz, announced Monday that “EXODUS” will feature new material and drop on May 28. The posthumous album will be released on Def Jam, where DMX released most of his albums and made music history. The Grammy-nominated performer’s first five albums all debuted at No. 1 on the all-genre Billboard 200 albums chart. His hits include “Get at Me Dog,” “Ruff Ryders’ Anthem,” “Party Up (Up in Here)” and “X Gon’ Give It to Ya.” DMX died last month at age 50.
Jordan’s father’s name is Michael A. Jordan and of course, his name is Michael B, but Jordan says the buck stops there and there won’t be a “Michael C. Jordan.”
“It’s too much, the pressure I had to live up to my dad’s name, and I’m not going to put that on my kid. I’m going to give him his own identity,” said Jordan.
Thankfully Jordan doesn’t have to think about it too much as his family is focused on his nephew, 1-year-old Lennox. Michael B. is setting his sights on getting his new home together after moving out of his parent’s house two years ago.
Does your family have a name that has been carried on that you don’t want to carry on with? Do you wish your parents would’ve given you a different name?

On Friday May 7, legendary rapper Snoop Dogg posted a personal message requesting prayers and positivity for his mom, Beverly Tate.
“Need all my prayer warriors for momma right now please and thank you,” Snoop Dogg captioned the instagram post.
View this post on Instagram
Snoop originally informed his fans of his mother’s health on Wednesday (May 5). “Sending special prayers out for my mom this morning y’all pray for her and me,” he wrote about his mom, who is 70 years old.
The California native didn’t offer any further details about what might be going on, but fans and former collaborators have sent their love on social media. Busta Rhymes commented on several prayer hands emojis on Snoop’s post and DJ D-Nice wrote, “Prayers up, brother.”
Snoop has a close relationship with his mother that he’s often shared with fans on social media. While appearing on Jada Pinkett Smith’s Facebook show “Red Table Talk” last year, he revealed that it was his mom who inspired him to apologize to CBS host Gayle King after he criticized her in light of comments she made about Kobe Bryant.
“She didn’t say I was wrong she just said, ‘You know I raised you better than that. You’re a representation of us. Every woman that ever crossed your life, you’re a representation of that’ – so I got it,” he said on the show.
Snoop said his mother also convinced him to post an apology video to King on Instagram.
Last Mother’s Day, the veteran rapper paid tribute to both his mom and wife Shante Taylor in posts on Instagram.
“Thank. U. Momma. Happy Mother’s Day!” he captioned a photo of his mother.
This past Mother’s Day the beloved Verzuz battle took place in Atlanta with the groups SWV and Xscape.
However SWV member Coko Clemons witnessed a scary encounter the night before the show which led to why fans described her looking “irritated” or “out of it.”
“Last Night as I am preparing for verzuz a lady was shot outside my hotel window. To see and hear the four shots, see her laying on the ground and all the blood was unbelievable!!” Clemons wrote on instagram.
Coko revealed that that harrowing ordeal contributed to a really bad anxiety attack that almost made her not perform.
“Literally crying & screaming. Yeah y’all saw me looking uncomfortable & irritated during the first half but if it wasn’t for my son @jayyemichael @ynottamiya and @mrljb I probably wouldn’t have been out there at all.”
Coko closed the post by thanking her loved ones for easing her nerves and understanding her mental state. “I always say most won’t care to understand but when you get those that do cherish them!!” she added.

Falynn announced the split from Simon after two years of marriage last month. Falynn stated on Instagram Stories on April 22nd that the split was “mutual.”
The timing of the split and engagement is a little blurry and Porsha made a post to Instagram to clear things up, “For all of you that need facts, I get the optics but Simon filed for divorce from a previous marriage in January. I had nothing to do with their divorce filing. That’s between the two of them.”
Porsha says that she and Faylnn aren’t friends and says that Simon and the father of her daughter, Dennis McKinley are working together to help Porsha co-parent 2-year-old daughter Pilar Jhena.
For now, a wedding date hasn’t been set but we’re sure next season’s RHOA will include more from Porsha and Simon. What do you think of Porsha getting married?
Mariah Carey has always been huge in the music scene, this past weekend she took to twitter to respond to a Baltimore Artist sampling her hit song “Shake It Off.”
This past Friday (May 7), RNB Radar CEO Tommy Banks tweeted a minute snippet of Baltimore rapper YTK’s new track “Let It Off,” which samples Carey’s 2005 platinum hit “Shake It Off” that peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100.
The minute long snippet was captioned “Mariah Carey has 24 hours to respond” features YTK sporting a ski mask and waving a pistol around the air.

The challenge proved to be trivial for the music legend, who not only responded within the allotted time gap, who at first glance seemed to threaten the rapper.
“How about y’all have 24 hours to respond to my lawyers,” Mariah Carey tweeted while attaching a GIF from her 2018 hit song “GTFO.”
A quick glance through RNB Radar’s thread, however, reveals that the comment may be a playful joke, and that Roots member Questlove is in the process of helping clear the sample.

“Hey I want to reiterate that Mariah was joking, please stop saying rude s— to her,” RNB Radar tweeted accompanied with a screenshot of what appears to be a DM with Questlove about clearing the sample. “She told that same joke to Quest Love hours before she responded to the tweet and put us in contact with the people who can help us clear it! so it’s not a problem on her end.”
Carey, meanwhile, is enjoying it all unfold behind the scenes, evidenced by her playful reaction to a fan tweet. “What I love about Mariah Carey is I have no idea she’s either teasing or she’s serious here,” the fan wrote. Carey replied: “I don’t know and neither do you!”

The album got pushed back due to Drake recovering from knee surgery. According to an Instagram post Drake wrote, “CLB won’t drop in January, I’m looking forward to sharing it with you all in 2021.”
If you remember Drake gave away $1 million back in 2018 while filming his hit single, “God’s Plan” in Miami.
When was the last time you gave away money?
Netflix has released the first trailer for a new documentary dedicated to African American cuisine.
“High On The Hog: How African American Cuisine Transformed America” will follow African American food as it made its way through the African Slave Trade to America’s kitchens.
Part travel vlog, part cooking show, “High on the Hog” is based on a book by food historian, Dr. Jessica B. Harris.
Food writer Stephen Satterfield will meet with chefs, historians, and activists who are keeping centuries-old traditions alive. “High on the Hog” will debut on Netflix on May 26th.
What is your favorite soul food meal?
“I’m looking at five and up, really like seven. I want them to be able to know how to use the restroom on their own and talk,” Tiffany explained.
The main reason why Tiffany wants to adopt is that she herself was a product of foster care which she was in from the age of 13-18.
Haddish doesn’t want to have kids of her own out of fear of racism, she says she did give up tons of eggs at the age of 21 due to needing money, “I might got [sic] some kids out in these streets. I doubt it though because I never got the bonus,” Tiffany told E! News.
