(Washington, DC) — Senator Mitt Romney says President Trump is guilty and should be convicted of abuse of power. Speaking on the Senate floor, the Utah Republican said Trump asked a foreign government to investigate a political rival and must be removed. He called it a flagrant assault on fundamental values and an appalling abuse of public trust. Prior to the final Senate votes on impeachment, Romney criticized fellow Republicans for blocking witness testimony in the Senate trial.
Romney added — “Corrupting an election to keep oneself in office is perhaps the most abusive and destructive violation of one’s oath of office that I can imagine.” He said the Trump case will be appealed to a higher court — the American voters — in November. Romney was the Republican presidential nominee in 2012 and is a former GOP governor of Massachusetts.
(New York, NY) — A New York City Barnes and Noble store’s attempt to honor Black History Month is falling flat. The bookseller is releasing today a dozen classic books with new, culturally diverse covers. Among the works getting the update are Romeo and Juliet, Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland and The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. A number of people on Twitter responded by saying promoting a bunch of white authors who wrote about white characters is not honoring Black History Month. They suggested instead the bookseller should promote black authors and black stories.

Azriel Clary recently separated from singer R. Kelly, who’s currently in prison. After allegedly spending years captive and under his control, Clary is speaking out.
According to TMZ, “the first things she wants to dive into includes working with non-profit organizations that help protect.” One of these organizations is called Team Truth that is focused on, “Bridging the communication gap between positive authority figures and minors… taking the power of silence away from those whose intent is to do our children harm.”
Clary reportedly would also like to focus primarily on African American women. TMZ states, “She’s planning on starting her own foundation dedicated to helping abused women take back control of their lives.”
Currently, Clary is slowly easing her way back into the music industry and may one day showcase her talents on her potential YouTube Channel, “On the Run with Azriel.”
Clary is officially cooperating with the feds on their case against R. Kelly, as she is continuing to repair her life, one day at a time.

Democratic Party officials in Iowa are planning to release a majority of their delayed caucus results by 5 p.m. EST. The party officials in Iowa told the presidential campaigns the news as chaos and confusion hung over Iowa and its first-in-the-nation presidential contest. Frustrated presidential candidates plowed ahead in their quest for nomination, most of them already in next-up New Hampshire. All claimed to be encouraged by Iowa voters in Monday’s voting, especially Vermont Sen. Bernie Senators and Pete Buttigieg of Indiana. Republican President Donald Trump mocked them all and their party and said he was the only one who could claim a victory in Iowa.

“This is not a self-righteous condemnation,” Phoenix explained, adding that he’s “ashamed to admit” that he’s a part of the problem. “I have not done everything in my power to ensure that the sets I work on are inclusive.”
“Joker” actor Joaquin Phoenix spoke out against “systemic racism” during an acceptance speech for Best Actor at the 2020 BAFTAS Sunday night. The organization failed to nominate a single non-white actor in its major categories.
“I think that it’s more than just having sets that are multicultural,” the actor said. “I think that we have to really do the hard work to truly understand systemic racism.”
The actor — who won the Golden Globe, SAG and is predicted to win the Oscar for “Joker” — began his speech by saying he felt “conflicted” accepting the award.
“I feel very honored and privileged to be here tonight and BAFTA has always been very supportive of my career, and I am deeply appreciative,” he began, adding, “But I have to say that I also feel conflicted because so many of my fellow actors that are deserving don’t have that same privilege.”
“I think that we send a very clear message to people of color that you are not welcome here,” Phoenix continued. “I think that is the message that we are sending to people that have contributed so much to our medium and our industry — and in ways that we benefit from.”
“I don’t think anybody wants a handout or a preferential treatment, although that is what we give ourselves every year,” he added. “I think that people just want to be acknowledged and appreciated and respected for their work.”
“This is not a self-righteous condemnation,” Phoenix explained, adding that he’s “ashamed to admit” that he’s a part of the problem. “I have not done everything in my power to ensure that the sets I work on are inclusive.”
“But I think that it’s more than just having sets that are multicultural I think that we have to really do the hard work to truly understand systemic racism,” he concluded. “I think that it is the obligation of the people that have created and perpetuate and benefit from a system of oppression to be the one to dismantle it. So that’s on us.”

(Washington, DC) — There has been a spike in auto thefts in the District and the Office of the Attorney General believes it knows why. Attorney General Karl Racine believes 75 percent of auto thefts are connected to the car rental app Getaround. Racine says he believes car thieves search the app for available vehicles. Getaround allows drivers instant access to search, rent and unlock thousands of cars, trucks and vans available nearby. The Attorney General says once an available car is located, thieves know the keys are somewhere inside. D.C. Police report more than 200 cars have already been stolen in 2020 representing a 38 percent increase in car thefts in the District over the same period last year.

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is warning taxpayers to look out for ‘ghost’ tax return preparers. A ghost preparer is someone who print tax returns but refuse to sign the tax return they have prepared with electronically and physically.
Ghost tax preparers may promise a bigger return that seem tempting but taxpayers are warned to steer clear. “They may invent income so that you qualify for tax credits, they may claim fake deductions so that you qualify for a larger refund,”said IRS spokesperson Michael Devine.
According to the IRS this can move into tax fraud and cause real issues for those involved.
“Taxpayers should verify both their routing and bank account number on the completed tax return for any direct deposit refund. And taxpayers should watch out for ghost preparers inserting their bank account information onto the returns.,” says the IRS.
Whoopi Goldberg and Oprah Winfrey‘s breakout roles are coming back to the big screen. As The Color Purple celebrates its 35th anniversary this year, fans and a new generation of people will be able to relive it.
The film, based on the Pulitzer prize winning book by Alice Walker, first debuted in 1985 and stars Goldberg, Winfrey, Margaret Avery, Danny Glover and Adolph Caesar. It follows the life of Goldberg’s character Celie as she navigates life after abuse.
As February is Black History Month, Fanthom Events and Turner Classic Movies are re-releasing the movie on February 23.
When it first premiered, The Color Purple gained 11 Academy Award nominations and grossed $142 million after a $15 million budget. Goldberg was nominated for and won a Golden Globe for her role.
Winfrey has helped the legacy of the film live on when she and Broadway producers created a Broadway musical based on the film. The songs were written by Earth, Wind & Fire and Fantasia made her Broadway debut on the stage. The show closed in 2008 but was revived in 2015 starring Jennifer Hudson and Orange is the New Black’s Danielle C. Brooks.
Turner Classic Movie host, Ben Mankiewicz will provide commentary and never before seen insight into the making of the movie.
Jay-Z’s response was that he still supports protesting, kneeling and Kaepernick, but he’s also interested in working with the league to make substantial changes.
Video of Beyoncé and Jay-Z sitting while Demi Lovato sang the national anthem at the Super Bowl has surfaced online.
TMZ posted the video Sunday of the celebrity couple sitting along with daughter Blue Ivy at Hard Rock Stadium, where the San Francisco 49ers were playing the Kansas City Chiefs.
Jay-Z, a co-producer of the halftime show featuring Shakira and Jennifer Lopez, announced his Roc Nation company had entered a partnership with the NFL for events and social activism last year. The rapper received immediate backlash since he had become one of the biggest supporters of Colin Kaepernick, who sparked a fissure in the NFL when he decided to kneel when the national anthem was played before games to protest the killings of blacks by police officers.
Jay-Z’s response was that he still supports protesting, kneeling and Kaepernick, but he’s also interested in working with the league to make substantial changes.
Representatives for Jay-Z and Beyoncé didn’t immediately reply to emails seeking comment.

“We never lost faith,” Mahomes said. “That’s the biggest thing. Everybody on this team, no one had their head down. We believed in each other. That’s what we preached all year long.”
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — Patrick Mahomes needed just the waning minutes of Super Bowl 54 to end a whole lot of frustration.
A championship 50 years in the making for the Kansas City Chiefs.
A two-decade wait for an NFL title for coach Andy Reid.
All it took was falling behind by double digits in the postseason, again. Then Mahomes found his mojo. The 24-year-old quarterback who was selected Super Bowl MVP, led the Chiefs to 21 straight points in the final 6:13 for a 31-20 victory Sunday over the San Francisco 49ers.
“We never lost faith,” Mahomes said. “That’s the biggest thing. Everybody on this team, no one had their head down. We believed in each other. That’s what we preached all year long.”
The Chiefs (15-4) trailed 24-0 and 17-7 in their previous playoff games, both in the first half. In the big game, they nearly didn’t have time for a comeback.
Kansas City’s fans in the crowd of 62,417 at Hard Rock Stadium got little opportunity to chant and do the tomahawk chop as KC fell behind 20-10 in the third quarter. Mahomes even threw his second interception of the night after they fell behind.
But the vaunted 49ers defense wilted late and Mahomes brought the magic that makes him so special.
He completed passes of 44 yards to Tyreek Hill and 38 to Sammy Watkins. The touchdowns came on short throws to Travis Kelce to cut the deficit to three and to Damien Williams for the lead. The first NFL title in Reid’s two-decade career was clinched by Williams’ 38-yard TD run, sending red-clad Chiefs fans into chants of “Andy!” Andy!”
Reid, 61, won a Super Bowl ring with the 1996 Packers while in charge of tight ends. He’s been seeking one as a head coach since being hired by Philadelphia in 1999. The Eagles lost in their only trip to the big game under Reid after the 2004 season.
“This is what it’s all about,” Reid said as confetti fell and the Chiefs celebrated the climax of the NFL’s 100th season. “What a great team, great coaches. Appreciate every bit of it.”
Mahomes found Hill, whose bobble led to the second San Francisco pick, for 44 yards on a third-and-15 — the first long pass completed by Kansas City. A 20-yard pass interference call on Tarvarius Moore, who had that earlier pick, put the ball at the 1 and Kelce was wide open for the score.
The Chiefs defense, confounded by the Niners’ misdirection much of the game, got stingy and forced a three-and-out. Mahomes soon hit Watkins down the right sideline behind Richard Sherman for a 38-yard gain, leading to Williams’ first score.
San Francisco (15-4) had nothing left in the fourth quarter, and its coach, Kyle Shanahan saw yet another late-game meltdown by his team. Three years ago, as offensive coordinator in Atlanta, he was part of the Falcons’ Super Bowl collapse and loss in overtime to New England.
“We’ll lick our wounds and we’ll get over this,” Shanahan said.
Kansas City, an original AFL franchise, won the final Super Bowl before the full merger, beating Minnesota in 1970. Chiefs owner Lamar Hunt even coined the phrase Super Bowl.
Now the Hunt family can add a Vince Lombardi Trophy to the Lamar Hunt Trophy earned with the AFC crown.
“It’s a beautiful trophy,” Chiefs owner Clark Hunt said. “I’m so happy for our players, coaches and fans. And especially Andy Reid. Nobody deserves this trophy more than Andy Reid.”
San Francisco went 4-12 in 2018 and Shanahan was on something of a hot seat this season. He came close to a ring once again, but down the stretch the Niners couldn’t slow the no-huddle attack at which Mahomes, Hill, Kelce, Williams and all the other Chiefs excel.
“We have heart,” Mahomes said. “We never give up and those guys around us, the leaders on the team , have that mindset that we never give up.”
The fourth quarter fireworks by the Chiefs were along the lines of the expected offensive explosion. Earlier, there were some strong drives but not a lot of huge plays.
After a tribute during the pregame ceremony to basketball superstar Kobe Bryant, who died a week ago in a helicpoter crash along with eight others, and Pro Football Hall of Famer Chris Doleman, who died Tuesday night of brain cancer, the 49ers used up nearly six minutes on their opening drive, yet got only Robbie Gould’s 38-yard field goal. Kansas City took up 7:26 for its next march, including a fourth-and-1 run by Williams on a direct snap to the 49ers 1. All four Chiefs in the backfield spun around before the snap.
Mahomes took it in to end the 15-play series on a run option.
The 7-3 deficit was the first for San Francisco since Game 15. It soon became 10-3 after Jimmy Garoppolo’s ill-advised lob under pressure was intercepted by Bashaud Breeland. Another fourth-down gamble paid off for KC, with Williams gaining 3 on a pitchout. But the Chiefs stalled and Harrison Butker kicked a 31-yard field goal.
San Francisco needed a spark and, as it often has this season, the running game provided it. Gouging the Chiefs in the trenches, the 49ers gained 53 yards on five straight rushes before Garoppolo hit on a pair of passes. The second completion, over the middle to Kyle Juszczyk, saw the fullback look like anything but with a nifty open-field move past safety Daniel Sorensen — perhaps Kansas City’s best tackle. J uszczyk surged into the end zone for a 15-yard TD to tie it at 10.
Once more, Garoppolo was brilliant on a drive after being picked off. He improved 39 for 42 for 461 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions with a 136.2 rating on such series after the TD.
Gould’s 42-yarder gave the Niners their first lead, capping the opening drive of the second half. Again, their misdirection plays kept the Chiefs off-balance on defense.
As Garoppolo did in the first half, Mahomes then threw into heavy coverage trying to hit Hill and was picked by Fred Warner. It was the first interception of Mahomes in five postseason games.
And it paid off with another efficient series for the Niners, keyed by a 26-yard completion to Kendrick Bourne on third down. Raheem Mostert, the star of the NFC title game, surged in from the 1 for a 20-10 edge.
Hardly unfamiliar territory for Kansas City.
“We have an ability as a team not just on offense, as team, to figure out what the other team is doing and put our foot in the ground and say enough is enough,” Kelce said. “It’s special.”

Upon his election as Mayor of the District of Columbia, Adrian Fenty requested Saymendy to serve as a member of the Transitional Team of the DC Department of Correction, alongside Paul Quander, former D.C. Deputy Mayor for Public Safety, she was instrumental in leading a very smooth transition.
Since 2003, Lloyd has maintained her weekly trips to the jail, where she services all populations and is well known for her unique gift of transformation through Life Coaching and; impacting men and women, at the same time, aiding families and children of those incarcerated. Moreover, Saymendy is known to calm units of uncontrolled men, preparing inmates for sentencing and is highly respected by judges and lawyers alike. In a society where people will not likely open their doors to ex-offenders due to fear, Saymendy provides a welcoming relief in a home without a grant to house returning citizens upon their release from jail or prison who has no place to go, but, have shown to be ready for a change and in need of the necessities of life.
She also started Tiding and Joy, a Christmas party for children of incarcerated parents who are victims of conditions beyond their control at the result of their parent/parents incarceration; while also working with family members to aid in the reduction of crime and the recidivism rate. (Undated) — Bradley Beal is not happy he was left off the NBA All-Star roster. He tells NBC Washington it was pretty disrespectful to learn he won’t play in the All-Star game but he wasn’t surprised. The Wizards guard says his focus is now making sure Washington makes the playoffs. His agent tells The Washington Post coaches around the league held Beal’s decision to stick with Washington against him and thinks they’ve sent a horrible message. Beal could still end up playing the All-Star Game if he’s named an injury replacement.
(Washington, DC) — Former National Security Advisor John Bolton’s upcoming book claims President Trump asked him to call Ukraine’s president-elect and encourage him to meet with Rudy Giuliani. The New York Times reports that the President made the request in the Oval Office with Giuliani, acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney, and White House Counsel Pat Cipollone present. Cipollone is leading the president’s defense in the impeachment trial. The claim would be direct evidence that President Trump was directly involved in the pressure campaign House managers claim was underway to use Ukraine to smear a political opponent.
GREENBELT, Md. (AP) — A Coast Guard lieutenant accused of stockpiling guns and drafting a hit list of prominent Democrats and TV journalists is scheduled to be sentenced today for his guilty plea to firearms and drug offenses.
Christopher Hasson, 50, faces a maximum of 31 years in prison at sentencing by U.S. District Judge George Hazel. He pleaded guilty in October to possessing unregistered and unserialized silencers, being a drug addict in possession of firearms and illegal possession of tramadol, an opioid painkiller.
Federal prosecutors recommended a 25-year prison sentence for Hasson. They have called him a domestic terrorist and self-described white nationalist who was intent on carrying out mass killings. But they didn’t file any terrorism-related charges against him.
Defense attorneys urged Hazel to spare Hasson from a prison term and sentence him to jail time served since his February 2019 arrest. Hasson’s lawyers accused Justice Department prosecutors of fabricating a bogus narrative that the married father of two grown children was planning a terrorist attack.
After Hasson’s arrest, prosecutors filed a memo in which they said the Coast Guard officer “intends to murder innocent civilians on a scale rarely seen in this country.” They also said Hasson drafted and tried to delete a June 2017 email in which he wrote that he was “dreaming of a way to kill almost every last person on the earth.”
Prosecutors claim Hasson drew up what appeared to be a computer spreadsheet hit list naming House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer and Democratic presidential hopefuls, including Sen. Elizabeth Warren. He also mentioned several network TV journalists, including MSNBC’s Chris Hayes and Joe Scarborough and CNN’s Chris Cuomo and Van Jones.
Hasson’s attorneys urged the judge to “strip away all of the speculation and rhetoric” and sentence Hasson “proportionately” for the crimes to which he pleaded guilty.
“The government’s unproven claims about his private thoughts and beliefs and its conjecture about his plans and motives have no place in the sentencing courtroom and should have no bearing on the outcome,” they wrote.
Hasson ordered at least 4,650 tramadol pills from internet distributors and had them shipped to his homes in Maryland and Currituck, North Carolina, according to Assistant U.S. Attorney Thomas Windom. The prosecutor said Hasson consumed most of the pills, often at work.

(Washington, DC) — Michael Bloomberg has picked up another big endorsement in his bid to be the next president of the United States. Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser this morning has announced that she is endorsing the former New York City mayor for president in 2020. In a tweet today Bowser said Bloomberg was “the right leader to turn innovative ideas into reality.”
Bowser added that Bloomberg is a problem-solver with a proven track record of getting things done. Bloomberg, who was elected mayor of New York as a Republican, announced in November that he would seek the Democratic presidential nomination.
“I want her to have friends in the neighborhood; I want her to be close to home, and if that school is right for her, that is probably where she is going.”
Mayor Muriel Bowser attended a D.C. Public Charter School meeting where she announced she will be sending her daughter, Miranda, to their local elementary school, according to the Washington Post.
Their assigned school is Shepherd Elementary School in Ward 4 D.C.
Mayor Bowser adopted Miranda in September 2018 and she is almost the preschoole age for D.C, three-years-old.
Bowser would be the first elected mayor to send their child to their neighborhood school. Although most of the elected officials did not have school-aged children, she would be on of the few to attend the assigned school.
“I would rather not spend an hour commuting,” Bowser said. “I want her to have friends in the neighborhood; I want her to be close to home, and if that school is right for her, that is probably where she is going.”
The U.S. Postal Service officially unveiled the Gwen Ifill postage stamp today. The event, honoring the legendary journalist was held the historic Metropolitan AME Church in Northwest DC. This was the home church for Ifill. DC Mayor Muriel Bowser declared January 30th, Gwen Ifill Day in the District. Ifill passed away in 2016.
“When we make students go to the nurse to get menstrual hygiene products, potentially waiting in line behind students with actual medical needs, we cause them to miss more class time.”
Maryland lawmakers have created a bill so free menstrual products are available in schools.
“…requiring a public school to install menstrual hygiene product dispensers in at least two restrooms on or before October 1, 2020, and in all restrooms on or before August 1, 2024; and defining ‘menstrual hygiene products’ as size-appropriate tampons or sanitary napkins for use in connection with the menstrual cycle,” reads the synopsis.
Delegate Kirill Reznik sponsored the bill and said the providing the products in disensers would alleviate the stigma around menstruation.
“When we make students go to the nurse to get menstrual hygiene products, potentially waiting in line behind students with actual medical needs, we cause them to miss more class time,” he wrote to NBC Washington.
He took to Twitter to congradulate Virginia’s Senate for recently passing a similar bill.
According to the State of the Period study, more than 84 percent of students in the United States have missed class time or know someone who has because they did not have access to menstrual products.
New York, California, and Illinois have made similar initiatives to provide mentrual products to students.

The family of the man allegedly shot by a police officer while handcuffed in the officer’s police cruiser wants a full investigation into their loves ones death. Officer Michael Owen has been charged with murdering William Green Monday night while Green sat handcuffed behind his back and seat-belted. Green’s daughter spoke today of the impact of her father’s death, saying her father will never walk her down the aisle or see his future grandchildren. Green had been arrested Monday night for allegedly running into parked cars with his vehicle near Saint Barnabas Road in Temple Hills. The president of the Prince George’s chapter of the NAACP called the County’s District 4 police unit one of the worst in the county for police brutality. The Green family is represented by William “Billy” Murphy. Murphy represented the family of Freddie Gray, the Baltimore man who died in April 2015 after being injured while in police custody.
