Mueller Report Released

A redacted version of the Mueller Report was released on Thursday. The 448 report does not concluded that President Trump committed crimes, but does not exonerate him. The President claimed vindication today. Democratic members of Congress are calling for Special Counsel Robert Mueller to testify before Congress. They also say that the report shows that the president acted with criminal intent.

The Mueller Report was released today–vindication for the president or criminal-like conduct?   The report investigated whether the Trump presidential campaign conspired with Russia during the 2016 presidential campaign. Beyond the issue of Russia, the 448- page report looked into whether President Trump tried to obstruct Mueller’s investigation.  Attorney General William Barr held a press conference two hours before the release of the report. Barr said there was not enough evidence to find the president obstructed justice. Jerry Nadler, Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, was not happy with what he called misleading comments by the Attorney General.   Nadler repeated a call for Mueller to testify before his committee and Congress’ need for an unredacted version of the Special Counsel’s report.   Adam Schiff, chairman of the House Intelligence Committee says the Mueller report does not vindicate President Trump.  On the flip side, Senator majority leader Mitch McConnell said President Trump had a right to claim victory today.  The Mueller report says the question of whether Mr. Trump obstructed justice could not be conclusively determined or ruled out.

Chocolate city has made a complete 360.

According to a study from the National Community Reinvestment Coalition, DC has the most intense gentrification in the country. With the development of new condominiums and restaurants, native residents are being pushed out of their communities.

Gentrification is the direct effect of the shift in demographic culture due to the rise in neighborhood economic values. Therefore, the hike in home prices, education levels and neighborhood incomes greatly increase.

According to the study, the District of Columbia has seen a great number of black displacement.

Mayor Muriel Bowser has proposed a few initiatives to ensure that District residents can stay in the area. The $20 million workforce housing fund which makes sure teachers, social workers, first responders and low- to middle income workers housing stability. Also, Bowser’s Housing Production Trust fund helps preserve affordable housing, from $100 million to $130 million.

Although the city is taking some initiative, many residents believe more can be done. What are your thoughts on gentrification as a whole?

According to Bossip, Wendy Williams‘ estranged husband Kevin Hunter is moving “to the left, to the left” but not without $10 million dollars.

In regards to the rumors of Hunter being fired as a executive producer on The Wendy Williams show, a source told Bossip that the decision to step down was mutual. His dismissal resulted in some big bucks, in the eight figures range.

Hunter has been Williams’ manager and EP for 10 years since the show’s debut. He recently apologized to the daytime talk show host for his wrongdoing, but to wasn’t enough to keep him in the circle.

With all her success with her production company, $10 million dollars is most likely chump change. Wendy seems very unbothered by it all.

Review: New Doc Shows How Beyoncé Changed Coachella, Forever

Simply put, Beyoncé changed Coachella — forever — and performing after her is like trying to out-ace Serena Williams or dunk better than Michael Jordan: You won’t win.

Beyoncé is extremely private, and only lets you know what she wants you to know, when she wants you to know it — typically, in a surprise post be it on her website or Instagram.

But throughout the years, she’s slightly cracked open her door to reveal parts of her life and personality — apart from what she gives through strong singing and extraordinary dance moves — to help remind us that though she is epic and flawless, she is still mortal.

“HOMECOMING: A film by Beyoncé,” which premiered Wednesday on Netflix, captures the human side of the superstar singer with behind-the-scenes, intimate moments of a mother, wife and artist tirelessly working on what’s already become one of most iconic musical performances of all-time: Beyoncé’s headlining show at the 2018 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.

The performance marked the first time a black woman headlined the famed festival and made Beyoncé just the third woman to score the gig, behind Bjork and Lady Gaga. Beyoncé took on the role seriously — as she does all live performances — giving the audience a rousing, terrific and new show highlighted by a full marching band, majorette dancers, steppers and more that is the norm at historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs).

The film takes it a step further to showcase what was happening to get to the historic moment: you see a mother bouncing back from giving birth to twins via an emergency C-section; an African American woman embracing her family’s history and paying tribute to black college culture and honoring black art; and the world’s No. 1 pop star defying the odds yet again and pushing herself to new heights, creating an even wider space between herself and whoever is No. 2.

Simply put, Beyoncé changed Coachella — forever — and performing after her is like trying to out-ace Serena Williams or dunk better than Michael Jordan: You won’t win.

Woven into the film are audio soundbites from popular figures to help narrate the story: Nina Simone speaks about blackness, Maya Angelou talks about truth, and Tessa Thompson and Danai Gurira explain the importance of seeing people who look like you on large screens.

Beyoncé speaks, too, saying that she dreamed of attending an HBCU, though she explains: “My college was Destiny’s Child.”

She also says the importance of her Coachella performance was to bring “our culture to Coachella” and highlight “everyone that had never seen themselves represented.”

So many people were represented during those performances last April — her stage was packed with about 200 performers, from dancers to singers to band and orchestra players. Beyoncé kicked of the performance dressed like an African queen, walking up the stage as the jazzy, soulful big band sound of New Orleans is played. After letting her dancers and backing band shine, she emerges again, this time dressed down — like a studious, eager, hopeful college student.

The musical direction and song selection flows effortlessly and was purposely crafted to tell a story: the first song is 2003′s “Crazy In Love,” a massively successful No. 1 hit and her first apart from Destiny’s Child. It also was Beyoncé’s first of many collaborations with Jay-Z. But then comes “Freedom,” representing the Beyoncé of today, unconcerned with having a radio or streaming hit, but more focused on the art, and the message.

And her message was loud and clear on “HOMECOMING”: Her performance is a homage to the culturally rich homecoming events held annually at HBCUs, but also showcases Beyoncé’s own homecoming — her return to her roots, and how she’s found a new voice by reinterpreting her music through the lens of black history.

Young, gifted and black, indeed.

“HOMECOMING: A film by Beyoncé,” a Netflix release, is rated TV-MA. Running time: 137 minutes. Four stars out of four.

Oregon White Supremacist given life for running over black teen

An Oregon man with ties to a white supremacist gang in the state has been sentence to life in prison for the vicious murder of a black teen.

40-year-old Russell Courtier was convicted last month of using his jeep to run over 19-year-old Larnell Bruce Jr after the two got into a fist fight outside of a convenience store in 2016. It happened in a suburbs of Portland in an area called Gresham.

Prosecutors showed Courtier killed Bruce because he was black. Courtier was convicted of murder and felony hit and run. He will not be eligible for parole for 28 years.

The victim’s father Larnell Bruce Sr. said the decision by the jury has restored his faith in society. He added that he hoped that Courtier will spend his time behind bars thinking about if he wants his son who is 8-years-old living in a world with white supremacy. “That ideology that you have is not good for anybody,” Bruce, Sr. said. It took jurors 8 days to render their decision.

Fake Ride Share Driver In DC Robs A Woman

A woman is robbed after getting into what she thought was her ride share car

Montgomery County Police have released surveillance video showing a suspect they say pretended to be a ride share driver who later robbed his female passenger.

Investigator’s say this criminal was so bold that after taking the female to her home in Bethesda, he forced his way in and took her wallet, money and a few items in the home before leaving.

The incident happened on March 30th at 4 in the morning. Police say this story could have turned out very different. Again officials and ride share company’s say it is vital if you use ride share to take your time before getting into a vehicle and make sure the driver knows your name, your destination and that the make and model matches what you were given.

In this case, the victim who was leaving from a night out with friends on “U” Street thought she was getting into the vehicle she ordered. The victim said the driver said his GPS was not working right and he asked for her address.

On the surveillance video from her apartment, you can see the driver approach her as she gets to the outside door of her apartment. The victim says that’s when he asked her to pay him in person and she refused saying she did so through the app. Minutes later you see him in the elevator with her and him grabbing her purse and her struggling with him before the elevator doors closed. What is not shown is him following her to her apartment and forcing himself in and robbing her. Anyone with information, in this case, should call the police.

Prince George’s County Officials Want Drivers to Focus

Prince George’s County launch a new campaign to crackdown on drivers who are doing far more than just driving behind the wheel.

  • Palmer Park, Maryland (Monday, April 15, 2019) – Prince George’s County officials say too many people are being injured and killed on the roadways because drivers are simply doing far more than driving behind the wheel.  County Executive Angela Alsobrooks was joined today at a 12:30pm news conference at police headquarters by Police Chief Hank Stawinski and County State’s Attorney Aisha Braveboy.  The trio called on drivers to focus and stop the distractions.  From driving impaired to texting while driving, motorists are causing mayhem on the roadways in the county.    The county police set up stop points today catching drivers in the act of being distracted while driving.  “It was really notable that all of the people we stopped today felt they were doing something that was a matter of a second,” said Alsobrooks.  The excuses from motorists varied.  Some said they were just taking a second to call their office or just taking a second to pick up the phone instead of using the hands-free devices.  “Well it only takes a second for an awful tragedy to occur.  And we have seen this time and time again,” added Alsobrooks.

The message today is “please take a moment and wear that seatbelt.  Don’t take a moment to respond to that device.  There’s nothing on that device that is so important as your safety or the safety of other people traveling on our roadway. ” said Stawinski.  Police have been able to bring the traffic fatalities down over the past several years.  But still the numbers are grossly too high.  Last year, there were 49 traffic deaths in the county, including three children who died on Indian Head Highway, called the most dangerous road in the state.

Today’s press conference comes just days before a new campaign is set to be kicked off in the county by State’s Attorney Braveyboy.  It’s called “Drive Focused, Sober & Safe.”  The campaign will be launched Saturday, April 27th from 9:30am to 1pm at the Southern Regional Technology and Recreation Complex at 7007 Bock Road – Oxon Hill, MD 20744.

Aretha Franklin Makes History With Posthumous Pulitzer Win

“Aretha is blessed and highly favored even in death. She’s continued to receive multiple awards — she’s received almost every award imaginable and now to get the Pulitzer Prize, it’s just amazing,” Sabrina Owens, Franklin’s niece and the executor of her estate, said in an interview with The Associated Press on Monday. “Aretha continues to bless us with her music and just paving the way for women going forward. It’s thrilling. She would be so happy right now.”

NEW YORK (AP) — Aretha Franklin is still getting R-E-S-P-E-C-T after death: The Queen of Soul received the Pulitzer Prize Special Citation honor Monday, becoming the first individual woman to earn a special citation prize since the honor was first awarded in 1930.

The Pulitzer board said the award was given to Franklin for “her indelible contribution to American music and culture for more than five decades.”

Franklin died on Aug. 16 at her home in Detroit from pancreatic cancer at age 76.

The superstar musician was the first woman inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame when she entered the prestigious organization in 1987.

The Pulitzer board most recently awarded a special citation prize in 2010 to Hank Williams, the country music legend who died in 1953. From the arts world, other recipients include Duke Ellington, Bob Dylan, John Coltrane, Thelonious Monk, George Gershwin, Ray Bradbury, William Schuman, Milton Babbitt, Scott Joplin, Roger Sessions, Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II.

Before Monday, only 41 special citation prizes had been awarded since 1930, and winners have ranged from individual people to organizations and groups, including the New York Times, writers E.B. White, Alex Haley and Kenneth Roberts, and Columbia University and its Graduate School of Journalism. Franklin and the Capital Gazette newspaper received special citation honors this year.

When Owens heard the news that Franklin won a Pulitzer, she and the family were “surprised but in another way we were not because that’s just the kind of person Aretha was.”

“She was just very gifted and talented, and the world is still recognizing that,” she said.

Franklin’s inclusion into the exclusive club re-confirms the impact her music — and voice — had and continues to have on the world. She became a cultural icon and genius of American song, considered by many to be the greatest popular vocalist of her time. Her voice transcended age, category and her own life.

Franklin was professional singer and accomplished pianist by her late teens and a superstar by her mid-20s. Raised in Detroit, she recorded hundreds of tracks and had dozens of hits over the span of a half century, including 20 that reached No. 1 on the R&B charts.

But her reputation was defined by an extraordinary run of Top 10 smashes in the late 1960s, from the morning-after bliss of ”(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman,” to the wised-up “Chain of Fools” to her unstoppable call for “Respect,” transforming Otis Redding’s song into a classic worldwide anthem — especially for the feminist and civil rights movements — making it one of the most recognizable and heard songs of all-time.

She sold millions of albums and won countless awards, including 18 Grammys, the National Medal of Arts and the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor.

She performed at the inaugurations of Presidents Barack Obama, Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter, and even sang at the funeral for civil rights pioneer Rosa Parks and at the dedication of Martin Luther King Jr’s memorial.

Rolling Stone ranked Franklin No.1 on its list of the Top 100 singers and she was also named one of the 20 most important entertainers of the 20th century by Time magazine, which celebrated her “mezzo-soprano, the gospel growls, the throaty howls, the girlish vocal tickles, the swoops, the dives, the blue-sky high notes, the blue-sea low notes. Female vocalists don’t get the credit as innovators that male instrumentalists do. They should. Franklin has mastered her instrument as surely as John Coltrane mastered his sax.”

Franklin was born in Memphis, Tennessee, though her family moved to Buffalo, New York, and then settled in Detroit. She grew up singing in the church alongside her father Rev. C.L. Franklin, a prominent Baptist minister who recorded dozens of albums of sermons and music. She joined him on tour and she released a gospel album in 1956. Four years later, she signed with Columbia Records and when her contract ran out in 1966, she joined Atlantic Records.

That’s when she blazed the pop and R&B charts with a string of hits, including “Respect,” ″I Say a Little Prayer,” ″Think,” ″Chain of Fools,” ″Day Dreaming,” ″(Sweet Sweet Baby) Since You’ve Been Gone,” ″Rock Steady” and “Until You Come Back to Me (That’s What I’m Gonna Do).”

Her Grammy-winning album, “Amazing Grace,” is one of the seminal albums in not only Franklin’s discography, but the canon of American pop music. It is the basis for the recently released concert film “Amazing Grace,” filmed over two sessions in January 1972 at the New Temple Missionary Baptist Church in the Watts section of Los Angeles.

Seahawks QB Wilson Sticking Around: ‘Seattle, We Got A Deal’

Russell Wilson is sticking around with the Seattle Seahawks as the highest paid player in the NFL.

RENTON, Wash. (AP) — Russell Wilson is sticking around with the Seattle Seahawks as the highest paid player in the NFL.

Wilson posted a video on social media early Tuesday saying, “Seattle, we got a deal,” shortly after agreeing to a $140 million, four-year extension with the Seahawks, his agent Mark Rodgers told The Associated Press. Wilson’s new deal runs through the 2023 season and includes a $65 million signing bonus, a no-trade clause and $107 million in guaranteed money.

Wilson’s per year average of $35 million tops Aaron Rodgers’ average annual salary of $33.5 million as part of the $134 million extension he signed last year with the Green Bay Packers.

Wilson’s current $87.6 million, four-year deal was signed at the beginning of training camp in 2015 and was set to expire after next season.

“Russell’s goal and his hope was that he would continue his career with the Seahawks and continue to bring championships to this town,” Rodgers said. “He believes there is still unfinished business and he is looking forward to pursuing that without having to worry about contracts and his future.”

The 30-year-old Wilson had set a midnight deadline for a new deal with Seattle. He wanted certainty about his contract before the start of the team’s offseason workout program, which began on Monday. Wilson showed up for the first day and by the end of the night was posting a video with wife Ciara announcing the agreement.

The deal ends the debate about Wilson’s future with the Seahawks, although there seemed to be little doubt he would remain in Seattle for a while. The team held leverage knowing it likely had at least three more seasons with Wilson under center. Even if he played out 2019 under his current deal, Seattle could have used the franchise tag if needed to keep him under contract through 2020 and 2021 at a reasonable price by quarterback standards.

But the extension allows Seattle to budget for the future knowing how to work with Wilson’s hefty paycheck in the years ahead and build a contender around the former third-round pick that has developed into a franchise QB.

Wilson’s new deal was going to have to top the extension signed by Rodgers before the start of last season. Wilson was the second-highest paid player in football behind Rodgers when his deal was signed in 2015, but had fallen to the 12th highest-paid QB in the league, according to Overthecap.com.

The five-time Pro Bowl selection is coming off arguably his best season as Seattle went a surprising 10-6 and earned an NFC wild card before losing to Dallas in the opening round of the playoffs. It was supposed to be a rebuilding year, but the Seahawks were ahead of schedule thanks to their return to a run-first offense and Wilson’s exceptional performance when tasked to throw.

The 5-foot-11 Wilson threw for a career-high 35 touchdowns and matched his career low with seven interceptions. He attempted only 427 passes — his lowest total since his second season when Seattle won the Super Bowl — but his efficiency was a career best with a 110.9 passer rating. He also ran only 67 times, a career low, as the improved run game and offensive line play allowed Wilson to stay in the pocket more and scramble for his life less.

It was a stark change from the 2017 season when Seattle missed the playoffs for the first time under Wilson. He led the league in touchdown passes, but also was Seattle’s leading rusher due to a non-existent run game.

The idea of Wilson ever leaving Seattle has always seemed a stretch. Teams simply don’t give up on quarterbacks with the kind of success he’s had. Wilson has led the Seahawks to the playoffs in six of his seven seasons, the only miss coming in 2017 when Seattle finished 9-7. He won a Super Bowl in his second season and got back to the championship game a year later before making the one major mistake of his career that will linger until he wins another title, throwing a goal line interception in the final minute when the Seahawks had a chance to take the lead on New England.

Wilson has shelved the stigma of short quarterbacks being unable to play in the NFL. He’s also been extremely durable, never missing a game while playing through significant knee, ankle and shoulder injuries.

Williams has still not spoken specifically on the divorce with her husband.

Wendy’s staff reportedly said, “It’s like a weight lifted off everyone’s shoulders…Kevin’s toxicity was dragging everyone down. … While the future is somewhat unclear, what is clear is that Wendy has a huge support system comprised of her staff, industry colleagues and family.”

Mueller Report To Be Released Thursday

Release of the Mueller Report Thursday

The Mueller Report will be released Thursday. But it will be a redacted version, with sensitive information blacked out by the Justice Department. Democrats in Congress say they still want the full, unredacted 400-plus page report released to them. The redacted version will be made available to the public.  When Attorney General William Barr received Mueller’s report late last month, he sent Congress a four page summary of findings. Barr said Mueller did not find evidence of conspiracy or collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign. He also noted that Mueller did not exonerate the President on obstruction of justice. Barr announced that the Justice Department would not continue the investigation of possible obstruction. Trump has argued that he is totally vindicated in the final report, though he has also stressed that he has not seen it.

Cathedral Of Notre Dame Burns In Paris

Fire destroyers much of Notre Dame Cathedral

One of Paris’, in fact, the world’s most famous structure is no longer what it used to be. Fire ripping through the Cathedral of Notre Dame today, leaving only the outer shell of the 850-year-old building.    French President Emmanuel Macron the cathedral will be rebuilt. Speaking outside the iconic landmark, Macron said that thanks to the efforts of firefighters, the facade, including the two bell towers, have been saved.  To help rebuild the cathedral, Macron pledged to launch an international fundraising campaign. The fire has been burning for hours and has resulted in the collapse of the spire and the roof of the building in the center of Paris.  Authorities in Paris have not discovered a cause for the fire, though there is speculation that it may be linked to the renovation of the cathedral.

Strong And Dangerous Winds Hit DMV

Windy conditions in the area cause damage and death

A wind advisory is still in effect for the DC area with wind gusts possibly as strong as 50 miles-per-hour. The National Weather Service issued the advisory today until 8:00 p.m. in counties in Northern Virginia, Maryland and in DC. Scattered power outages hit the area this morning leaving thousands without power. In Virginia, widespread power outages forced all Spotsylvania public schools to close today. The National Weather Service expecting that winds may blow down limbs, trees, and power lines. Additional power outages are expected.

Those strong winds contributed to the death of an elderly Stafford Virginia woman early this morning.   Authorities say 78-year-old Cathy Tyler was killed after she was pinned under a tree that crashed into her home as she slept. The woman’s 82-year-old husband was also sleeping inside the home at the time and was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Catastrophic Fire Engulfs Notre Dame Cathedral In Paris

“Everything is burning, nothing will remain from the frame,” Notre Dame spokesman Andre Finot told French media. The 12th-century cathedral is home to incalculable works of art and is one of the world’s most famous tourist attractions.

PARIS (AP) — A massive fire engulfed the roof of Notre Dame Cathedral in the heart of the French capital Monday, toppling its spire and sending thick plumes of smoke high into the blue sky as tourists and Parisians watched in horror from the streets below.

A spokesman said the entire wooden frame of the cathedral would likely come down, and that the vault of the edifice could be threatened too.

“Everything is burning, nothing will remain from the frame,” Notre Dame spokesman Andre Finot told French media. The 12th-century cathedral is home to incalculable works of art and is one of the world’s most famous tourist attractions.

The cause of the catastrophic blaze was not known, but French media quoted the Paris fire brigade as saying the fire is “potentially linked” to a 6 million-euro ($6.8 million) renovation project on the church’s spire and its 250 tons of lead. Prosecutors opened an investigation as Paris police said there were no reported deaths.

Flames shot out of the roof behind the nave of the cathedral, among the most visited landmarks in the world. Hundreds of people lined up bridges around the island that houses the cathedral, watching in shock as acrid smoke rose in plumes.

French President Emmanuel Macron postponed a televised speech to the nation because of the stunning blaze and was going to the cathedral himself.

Paris deputy mayor Emmanuel Gregoire said emergency services are trying to salvage the famed art pieces stored in the cathedral.

Built in the 12th and 13th centuries, Notre Dame is the most famous of the Gothic cathedrals of the Middle Ages as well as one of the most beloved structures in the world. Situated on the Ile de la Cite, an island in the Seine, the cathedral’s architecture is famous for, among other things, its many gargoyles and its iconic flying buttresses.

Among the most celebrated artworks inside are its three stained-glass rose windows, placed high up on the west, north and south faces of the cathedral. Its priceless treasures also include a Catholic relic, the crown of thorns, which is only occasionally displayed, including on Fridays during Lent.

The cathedral was immortalized in Victor Hugo’s “The Hunchback of Notre Dame,” published in 1831, and has long been a subject of fascination in popular culture as well as the traditional art world.

French historian Camille Pascal told BFM broadcast channel the blaze marked “the destruction of invaluable heritage.”

“It’s been 800 years that the Cathedral watches over Paris”, Pascal said. “Happy and unfortunate events for centuries have been marked by the bells of Notre Dame.”

He added: “We can be only horrified by what we see.”

Associated Press reporters at the scene saw massive plumes of yellow brown smoke filling the air above the Cathedral and ash falling on the island that houses Notre Dame and marks the center of Paris. As the spire fell, the sky lit up orange.

Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo is in despair at the “terrible fire.” Hidalgo said in a Twitter message that Paris firefighters are still trying to limit the fire and urged Paris citizens to respect the security perimeter that has been set around the cathedral.

Hidalgo said Paris authorities are in touch with Paris diocese.

Reactions from around the world came swiftly.

In Washington, Trump tweeted: “So horrible to watch the massive fire at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris” and suggested first responders use “flying water tankers” to put it out.

Cardinal Timothy Dolan, the archbishop of New York, said he was praying “to ask the intercession of Notre Dame, our Lady, for the Cathedral at the heart of Paris, and of civilization, now in flames! God preserve this splendid house of prayer, and protect those battling the blaze.”

A Fordham Uni. Rights Of Passage Turns Deadly

Tragedy at Fordham University…

Capturing an image of yourself from atop Fordham University’s clock tower in the Bronx is a tradition for many graduating seniors. It is not something sanctioned by the university. Over the weekend, however, this innocent effort to capture memories turned deadly.

22-year-old Sydney Monfries fell to her death after entering the locked bell tower with other seniors to take a snapshot with friends with the city of New York in the backdrop. Sources say the Portland, Oregon fell 30 to 40 feet inside of the tower after she lost her footing. Access to the is actually restricted at all times.

Monfries was set to graduate in a few weeks. The university is still investigating the incident. Fordham University says it will award her bachelor’s degree in Journalism to her family posthumously.

Reports: Gayle King May Be Too Expensive For CBS

“I never ever discuss contracts in the media,” King said. “I think the best place to discuss a contract is with CBS.”

Contributed by Nia Seaton

Several media outlets are reporting that CBS staff workers are worried that they may not be able to afford Gayle King as a reporter. While CBS is very interested in keeping her on the station, she may be a little too expensive to keep.

After signing a multi-million dollar deal with CBS, King was ready to stay with the network another year. Her goal was to double her current annual salary of $5.5 million dollars as she continues to work in CBS’ spotlight. Unfortunately CBS may not be able to grant her wish.

King has been given a lot of praise during her job as a reporter at the network. She received the most recognition when interviewing the Chicago singer, R Kelly, during his court trials. The interview took a wild turn when Kelly blew up trying to defend himself while facing allegation and 10 counts of criminal aggravated sexual abuse.

“Stop it. You all quit playing! Quit playing! I didn’t do this stuff! This is not me! I’m fighting for my f***ing life! Y’all killing me with this sh*t! I gave you 30 years of my f***ing career!” Kelly shouted to the cameras during the interview. “Thirty years of my career! And y’all trying to kill me? You killing me, man! This is not about music! I’m trying to have a relationship with my kids! And I can’t do it! Y’all just don’t want to believe the truth! You don’t want to believe it!’

While holding her composure on set, King was praised for maintaining her calm demeanor when the performer got very emotional on set. CBS received a significant amount of traffic and a bigger audience after this interview.

Multiple sources discuss the need to keep King on CBS, yet say she may be too good to afford. “It’s not like CBS News can all of a sudden find ABC or NBC money—it has to come from somewhere.”, says one source. “The big priority is keeping Gayle. The only thing that would really hurt CBS News at the moment is losing her.”

“I never ever discuss contracts in the media,” King said. “I think the best place to discuss a contract is with CBS.”

It’s Tax Day! You Have Until Midnight To File

Today’s the deadline to file or pay big fines…

That’s right procrastinators you have until midnight tonight to file your taxes without concern or fear of heavy penalties and fines. Now you can also mail in your 2018 taxes but it’s important to note that your envelope must be posted marked with today’s date.

For those of you who just can’t pull it together in time today, you have one final option. You can request a 6-month extension. It is very important to note. Just because you request an extension that does not mean that you have 6 months to pay. In fact its the contrary. The penalties for not filing are higher than not paying taxes. Pay what you can because the fines for filing late are significantly higher than not paying taxes on time penalties.

If you expect to owe taxes for one or multiple previous tax years and you have not filed nor paid the taxes due, you will most likely be subject to late filing and late payment penalties. Efile.com recommends you take the following steps as soon as possible:

Step 1: Download the respective Tax Forms for the Tax Year in Question.
Step 2: Use the Tax Calculator and Tools for the respective Tax Year.
Step 3: Complete the Income Tax Forms and Mail them to the IRS and/or State Tax Agency.
Step 4: Even if you can’t pay your taxes, follow the steps above and pay as little or as much as you can afford. That way, you will at least stop the late filing penalties, which in general are higher than the late payment penalties.

Jemele Hill Still Speaking Her Mind, This Time On Podcast

“The beauty of sports is that it always provided a platform to talk about all of these other things,” Hill said. “We’ve always made the mistake of making it seem like the rest of the universe is happening in one place and sports is happening over here, when often sports, politics, social media and entertainment have been entwined. It’s really not all that big of a leap.”

NEW YORK (AP) — Jemele Hill has moved on, but not from speaking her mind.

The former ESPN host, best known to the non-sports world for tweets about President Donald Trump that provoked the White House to unsuccessfully seek her firing, launches a weekly podcast Monday on Spotify. On the show, “Jemele Hill is Unbothered,” she’ll conduct interviews and give commentary on sports, politics and culture.

Coupled with a regular gig writing for The Atlantic magazine and her engagement in December to writer Ian Wallace, the 43-year-old Hill does seems unbothered. Happy, even.

Some of her recent Atlantic pieces seem to give a road map for her podcast. She’s written about how NFL players need to look out for their own interests because their teams probably won’t, a “force field” erected by the black community that protected singer R. Kelly from consequences related to his behavior and how — after watching Barack and Michelle Obama interact with Trump at the funeral for former President George H.W. Bush — she wished they wouldn’t always “go high.”

Her interests are no surprise to anyone who follows the social media feed of this former sportswriter who dreamed of one day writing for Sports Illustrated.

“The beauty of sports is that it always provided a platform to talk about all of these other things,” she said. “We’ve always made the mistake of making it seem like the rest of the universe is happening in one place and sports is happening over here, when often sports, politics, social media and entertainment have been entwined. It’s really not all that big of a leap.”

Hill became a newspaper sports columnist at 28 and when first hired at ESPN, it was as a writer, not a television host. Hill joined ESPN in 2006 from the Orlando Sentinel. She eventually moved in front of the cameras, although her highest-profile assignment, the 6 p.m. “SportsCenter” with Michael Smith, didn’t quite click with viewers.

Her Twitter battle with Trump unfolded in September 2017. She called him a white supremacist and “the most ignorant, offensive president of my lifetime.”

ESPN distanced itself from her comments and the controversy that ensued, but didn’t discipline her. A month later, she was suspended for violating social media policy for tweeting that fans should effectively boycott the advertisers of the Dallas Cowboys after owner Jerry Jones said players who disrespected the American flag would not play on his team.

Hill officially left ESPN in September 2018.

A year and a half after the incident, Hill said she had no qualms over taking on the president.

“I didn’t like the fact that it caused damage to people I care about and to relationships that I built, but in terms of what I said, I don’t regret it,” she said. “In my mind, I’ve only been proven right so it’s hard for me to regret it knowing that I’m on the right side of history.”

Hill’s eventual exit from ESPN was more amicable than these things normally are. She explored some of these feelings in an Atlantic column about reconnecting with John Skipper, the former ESPN boss who left his job because of substance abuse issues. “I left ESPN a better journalist than when I started there,” Hill wrote. “I’m rooting for his success because he so heavily invested in mine.”

Her hiring at Spotify dovetails with that company’s ambition to be the world’s leading audio platform for both podcasts and music, said Courtney Holt, head of Spotify Studios. The science podcast Dope Labs and another by comic Amy Schumer are among the 20 original podcasts Spotify is making now or launching.

“I have always been a huge fan of Jemele,” Holt said via email. “She is an important voice in sports, race, culture and politics, and their intersection in media.”

Two of Hill’s first podcast interview subjects will be the radio personality known as Charlamagne tha God, host of “The Breakfast Club,” and comedian and actor Tone Bell.

One guest she wouldn’t be interested in having on her podcast is Trump, not that it would be likely to happen anyway.

“He’s had no desire to really move the conversation,” she said. “There are people who you disagree with who you can have a good conversation with because both parties come into it wanting to be 10 percent closer. That’s not the spirit of what he does, ever.”

Review: ‘Little’ Heralds Big-Time Arrival Of Marsai Martin

And Martin, a tiny tyrant beneath a Diana Ross-sized afro, is the number one reason to see “Little.” The movie, itself, is a middling “Big”-styled body-swap comedy. But it’s elevated considerably the verve and charisma of its cast, which also features Issa Rae and Regina Hall.

Since Hailee Steinfeld rode into town in “True Grit,” we’ve been fairly blessed by the big-screen breakthroughs of teenage actresses. To name just a few: Anya Taylor-Joy (“The Witch”), Amandla Stenberg (“The Hate U Give”), Elsie Fisher (“Eighth Grade”).

Add Marsai Martin to the list. And at just 14-years-old — 13 when the cameras rolled — she’s one-upped them all. Along with starring in “Little,” Martin is also an executive producer, the youngest credited in Hollywood history. She is, quite literally, a boss.

But there’s a special pleasure in seeing someone front-and-center for the first time that you know is going to hold the spotlight. Martin, the “black-ish” star, helped conceive of “Little,” and the film, fittingly, is itself a kind of fable of self-empowerment.

An enjoyably over-the-top Hall (playing a far crueler boss than her “Support the Girls” supervisor) stars as Jordan Sanders, a high-powered executive who runs her Atlanta tech company with a Scrooge-level degree of abuse for all who encounter her, including her many employees and, most of all, her assistant, April (Rae). When Jordan insults a wand-wielding young girl (“You chocolate Hogwart!”), a spell is cast, and the next morning Jordan awakes as her 13-year-old self (Martin).

The premise is overly familiar (“Freaky Friday,” ″13 Going on 30″), but there’s an obvious twist. After a panicked Jordan summons April to her high-rise apartment for help, April refutes the movie’s very premise: “But that’s for white people.” Looking for answers, she quickly googles “Female Gary Coleman disease.”

They’re good lines in a movie that could have used more of them. Child services (Rachel Dratch) is called in. Jordan is sent back to her old school where, as seen in a flashback that opens the movie, she initially resolved to become the bully rather than the bullied. Jordan introduces herself as the “new alpha” and makes eyes at her teacher (Justin Hartley), purring, “Teach me somethin’.”

Just as Jordan will have to learn to soften, April will have to toughen. When Jordan is small, April is thrust into running the company. While having as much of Rae, the gifted creator and star of “Insecure” is very welcome, director Tina Gordon Chism (screenwriter of “Drumline” and “What Men Want”), who co-wrote the film with Tracy Oliver, gets a little caught between story lines and tones. The comedy opportunities are riper for “Little” in the classroom, but the movie ends up feeling more like a workplace comedy. Chism might have been better served daring more adult humor, or being content with the PG-13-rated “Little” as family entertainment.

The pacing is sluggish when it should be quickening, and nothing in how “Little” turns out will surprise anyone. Yet the trio of Hall, Rae and Martin makes “Little” a consistently pleasant experience. Martin isn’t just playing a version of her “black-ish” character, but is effectively channeling Hall’s performance in miniature. She’s going to be big.

“Little,” a Universal Pictures release, is rated PG-13 by the Motion Picture Association of America for some suggestive content. Running time: 109 minutes. Two and a half stars out of four.
