Howard University will hold its Truth and Service Classic at Audi Field taking on Hampton University. It will be the first time a football game is held at the home of DC United.
WASHINGTON, D.C (Friday, June 18, 2021) – Audi Field has announced a strategic partnership with Howard University and Events DC to host the university’s annual Truth and Service Classic football game. This season’s game, which will be held on September 18, will become the first-ever college football game played at the 20,000-seat venue in downtown Washington, D.C., the home of Major League Soccer club D.C. United.
The new relationship between Audi Field and Howard University will see the Truth and Service Classic, which will operate as a home game for the Bison, launch this year with a long-term goal of an annual showcase game taking place at Audi Field under the Truth and Service Classic moniker. The first edition will feature the 96th meeting of the historic rivalry between Howard University and Hampton University with future opponents set to be named at the beginning of each collegiate football season.
“When we opened Audi Field in 2018 it was always our vision to create a year-round destination that plays host to premier sporting events and a diverse collection of entertainment,” said Jason Levien, Co- Chairman and CEO of D.C. United. “We’re excited to welcome the most notable HBCU football game in our nation’s history to Audi Field for the inaugural Truth and Service Classic and are eager to further our relationship with an institution that is part of our city’s fabric alongside our great partner, Events DC.”

Over the course of the program’s history, they have won five Black College National Championships and three conference championships. Their most recent notable win came in 2017 when they defeated the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) 43-40 in one of the biggest upsets in college football in recent history.
“It will be tremendous thrill, for me personally and for the entire Howard University community, to see our football team play at Audi Field in the Truth and Service Classic,” said Wayne A. I. Frederick, president of Howard University. “In the aftermath of multiple sports seasons that were adjusted or canceled due to the pandemic, it is exciting to have sporting events to look forward to once again. The Truth and Service Classic this year will be a wonderful occasion to showcase the spirit of Howard. I am eagerly anticipating
this next chapter in the storied rivalry between the two HUs – Howard University and Hampton University. This competition, combined with our mutual respect for one another, is sure to bring out the very best in both of our teams and institutions. I would like to thank D.C. United and Audi Field for this opportunity.”

Paris Jackson, Michael Jackson’s daughter, opened up to Willow Smith for her Red Table Podcast about past suicide attempts.
“A lot of people do feel regret when they try and attempt suicide, like a last-minute regret,” Jackson said. “There have been times where I did and times where I didn’t, where I was upset that it didn’t work.”
Jackson went on to say she’s glad her attempts at suicide never worked and she’s currently in a better place. Her past anxiety and paranoia were a result of her father’s super-stardom and the paparazzi who would intrude on their lives.
“I’ll hear a trash bag rustling and flinch in panic. I think it’s standard PTSD,” said Paris. She also says the lack of support from her family after coming out made her not feel “accepted.”
“My family is very religious and a lot of homosexuality is very taboo, so they don’t like to talk about it, it’s not really accepted.”

Waithe told Rollingstone ““As I got older and more into my career, I think people really started to pick up on the music choices in the film or TV that I was doing, and that really spoke to me.”
With musical inspirations of Prince, Erkyah Badu, and Brandy, she appears to have a love and respect for the 90s sound.
She plans on promoting artist storytelling and wants to promote the personality and growth of the artist over just releasing tons of albums as the Jasmine Brand reported.
“I don’t want to do the typical thing. We are not going to come out with 10 albums a year. It’s about finding really interesting artists who have a real drive and sense of wanting to figure out who they are over time. We really want artists that can grow. Yes, it includes albums and singles, but to me it’s about personality and moments.”
While no artists are signed yet, artist such as H.E.R., Miguel, Lil Nas X, Summer Walker, and Jazmine Sullivan.
She wants each album to show growth or a reflection of where the artist are in their life.
“I think there is this desire to have artists do the same thing again and again. I really miss watching an artist and their albums shift and change with each one. But I want to bring back some of that old vibe and nostalgia and rollout of actual singles.”
“In The Heights,” written by Miranda, initially opened on Broadway in 2008. The highly anticipated film adaptation was released in theaters and on HBO Max last week reported BET.
The plot is about life in Washington Heights, Manhattan as an Afro-Latino. The film sheds light on daily problems, feeling like you don’t belong, and being the first in the family to accomplish certain goals. Music is used to help capture the emotions involved.
The Jon M. Chu-directed film faced criticism after the noticeable lack of dark-skinned Afro-Latinx actors. On Monday (June 14), Miranda issued a statement.

— Lin-Manuel Miranda (@Lin_Manuel) June 14, 2021
“I’m seeing the discussion around Afro-Latinx representation in our film this weekend and it is clear that many of our dark-skinned Afro-Latinx community don’t feel sufficiently represented in it,” Miranda said in a statement. “I can hear the hurt and frustration over colorism, of feeling unseen in the feedback.”
Critics feel none of the main characters are of darker complexion.
“I needed to be educated about that, about not fully understanding the existence of dark-skinned Latino folks like Afro-Panamanians, Black Cubans and Black Dominicans, for example, ” he mentioned in an interview with The Root.
This will hopefully be used as a learning experience for future castings.
BET reported that “part of Maher’s rant specifically targeted Kevin Hart, who, during an interview with the New York Times, said in regards to police brutality, “You’re witnessing white power and privilege at an all-time high.””
“This is one of the big problems with wokeness, that what you say doesn’t have to make sense or chime with the facts or ever be challenged, lest the challenge itself be conflated with racism,” Maher said during the segment.
He added: “But saying white power and privilege is at an all-time high is just ridiculous. Higher than a century ago, the year of the Tulsa Race Massacre? Higher than the years when the KKK rode unchecked, and the KKK went unchallenged? Higher than the 1960s when the Supremes and The Willie Mays still couldn’t stay in the same hotel as the white people they were working with? Higher than during slavery?”
If you think America is more racist now than ever, more sexist than before women could vote and more homophobic than when blow jobs were a felony, you have #Progressophobia and you should adjust your mask because its covering your eyes. #BY pic.twitter.com/qFUFwO3eNJ
— Bill Maher (@billmaher) June 12, 2021
After these statements Kevin Hart did not take back his claims of white privilege being prevalent. In a series of post from Hart BET reported:
“The internet has put a magnifying glass on how dominant racism still is in our country….to ignore that @billmaher is ridiculous…To take my quote literally is also ridiculous…. u are witnessing the same craziness that I am…,” he wrote.
He added in another tweet: “When I speak of white privilege I’m speaking of moments that make no sense. For example ‘The storming of the capital’ ….if they were black they would have been killed on the spot….” In another post, he added, “I am speaking on Karen’s that now feel like they can say and do whatever they want without any consequences…. to act as if white privilege does not exist is just stupid when it is as clear as day.”
“So if you choose to highlight a quote of mine please try and understand the why behind it. Once again….I’m not a political figure and I have no desire to be one….When I’m asked a question I’m going to give an answer based on what I think and feel. Good day,” he continued. “Lastly….. message to all. An opinion is just that….it’s an “Opinion”….everyone is entitled to have one. If you disagree that’s fine….Now go have a great Sunday ….Live love & laugh,” he concluded.
While race and privilege is always a touchy subject, with the help of social media and the internet we are able to see in real time the unjust doings in our country.

In a video that has since gone viral from Saturday evening, police are seen kneeing and tasing a teenager for vaping.
Police say a group of teens was vaping outside of a non-designated area which is against boardwalk policy. The group left however one suspect began to vape again.
The police then asked for identification which the suspect did not oblige with. Then police are seen tasing then eventually kneeing the subject.
In a report by WTRF they said “During this encounter, a large crowd of people began to form around police as they attempted to arrest Brian Everett Anderson, 19, for failure to provide necessary identification for the violation of the local ordinance.
Police say Anderson began to resist arrest and was charged with disorderly conduct, resist/interfere with arrest, assault second degree, and failure to provide proof of identity.”
While the subject was seen talking back, many wondered was the force used excessive.
A divorce is always hard, especially when you’re a celebrity and everything is in the public eye. Comedian Gary Owens amid divorce with Kenya Duke was seen in NY with Wendy Williams.
After a recent appearance on William’s show, dating rumors began to spark after the two were spotted at Scotto’s. However the comedian’s ex wife Kenya Duke wasn’t too thrilled about it.
View this post on Instagram
“I was shocked you spent most of your time talking about me, the divorce, son and daughter. If the streets are that good then why waste that opportunity and not talk about upcoming projects?,” Duke said, adding, “Maybe finding out what the host likes to do? She was obviously interested.”
Her post also claimed Owens was not as active in their children’s life and that he is a “deadbeat.”
BET reported that “On March 19, Duke filed for divorce on March 19, in Los Angeles County Supreme Court, with no clarity on why the 46-year-old opted for divorce. Weeks prior to the divorce, Owen previewed The Gary Owens Show, with Kenya in the preview, as she set out to buy, flip and sell a property.”
Pharell Williams does a little bit of everything. His latest endeavor, opening private schools for low income families in his home state of Virginia.
“If the system is fixed and unfair, then it needs to be broken,” Williams said in a news release. “We don’t want lockstep learning where so many kids fall behind; we want bespoke learning designed for each child, where the things that make a child different are the same things that will make a child rise up and take flight.”
The first school will be in the Norfolk area for grades 3 through 5.
The Virginian Pilot reported “Called Yellowhab, yellow after Williams’ nonprofit and “hab” after the name of the Mars habitat in the movie “The Martian,” the school will be tuition-free for at least the first year. The costs of attendance will be covered by philanthropic support.”
“Williams’ nonprofit has offered summer programs and other educational opportunities throughout Hampton Roads for years, but settled on Norfolk for the site of the first school because of its deeply entrenched housing segregation and the city’s plans to redevelop three public housing communities through its billion-dollar St. Paul’s redevelopment.”
These schools not only are meant to give these children a top notch education but also a safe space for them to explore their interests and discover a love for learning.
June 2016 saw one of the deadliest shootings in the United States Of America. Killing 49 people, the highest amount by a single gunman, and the largest attack on the LBGTQ community, the Pulse Nightclub shooting was horrific.
President Joe Biden announced his plans to make the Pulse Nightclub a national memorial, which he says the bill was unanimously passed by the House and Senate.
In a statement he released he said “We must also acknowledge gun violence’s particular impact on LGBTQ+ communities across our nation. We must drive out hate and inequities that contribute to the epidemic of violence and murder against transgender women – especially transgender women of color. We must create a world in which our LGBTQ+ young people are loved, accepted, and feel safe in living their truth. And the Senate must swiftly pass the Equality Act, legislation that will ensure LGBTQ+ Americans finally have equal protection under law.
In the memory of all of those lost at the Pulse nightclub five years ago, let us continue the work to be a nation at our best – one that recognizes and protects the dignity and safety of every American.”
While making this a national memorial, he also hopes to make stricter gun laws so these domestic terrorism acts no longer happen.
