Trump and Black Voters

Trump campaign launching black outreach effort for 2020

ATLANTA (AP) — During the 2016 campaign, candidate Donald Trump stood in front of largely white crowds and asked black voters to consider, “What the hell do you have to lose?”
Four years later, the president has a new message for black voters: Look what I’ve delivered.
Trump and his campaign will be launching a new “Black Voices for Trump” outreach initiative in Atlanta on Friday dedicated to “recruiting and activating Black Americans in support of President Trump,” according to the campaign. Much of that effort will focus on highlighting ways that African Americans have benefited from the Trump economy, according to advisers.
“Black Americans have never had a better champion than President Trump,” said senior campaign adviser Katrina Pierson in a statement. She added, “Black Americans’ strong support for President Trump will ensure a second term for the President.”
That prediction is met with skepticism from critics, however, given Trump’s consistently dismal approval rating with black voters, who overwhelmingly disapprove of the job he’s doing.
Trump has spent much of the last four years engaged in racially charged attacks, going after minority members of Congress, claiming “no human being” would want to live in rat “infested,” majority-minority Baltimore and claiming that there were “very fine people on both sides” of the deadly Charlottesville protest against white supremacists.
Shortly after landing in Georgia on Friday, Trump retweeted a call from one black supporter for submissions for a “#MAGACHALLENGE” competition featuring Trump-friendly rap songs. Trump said he would be announcing the winners and inviting them to the White House to meet with him and perform.
“I think black Americans are not the audience for these outreach efforts,” said Theodore Johnson, a senior fellow at the Brennan Center for Justice who is an expert in race and politics. While Trump might be able to maintain the low level of black support he received in 2016, or perhaps expand it by one or two points, he sees little evidence the president can change many minds.
“I think this is not going to move the needle at all,” Johnson said.
Before launching the new effort, Trump met with supporters at a fundraiser that was closed to the media. Nearby, a small group of protesters chanted, “Lock him up!” Trump is expected to raise about $3.5 million for a joint fundraising committee benefiting the Republican National Committee, the Trump campaign and the campaign of Sen. David Perdue, R-Ga. About 325 people are expected to attend.
In 2016, 6% of black voters supported Trump, according to a Pew Research Center analysis of people who participated in its polls and were confirmed to have voted. There is no indication his support is growing. Polling shows that African Americans continue to be overwhelmingly negative in their assessments of the president’s performance, with his approval hovering around 1 in 10 over the course of his presidency, according to Gallup.
Yet Trump’s campaign dismissed the numbers, insisting the campaign has seen favorable movement and arguing the president can increase his margins with black voters by bringing new people into the fold.
“The polls have never been favorable for Trump, and the only poll that matters is on Election Day,” Pierson said.
The campaign has launched similar coalitions for women, Latinos and veterans.
Darrell Scott, a black Ohio pastor and a longtime supporter of the president who will be part of the new coalition and attend Friday’s event, said that in 2015 and 2016, supporters trying to sell Trump to black voters could only point forward to share things they anticipated from Trump.
“Now that it’s 2020, we’re able to point backwards and to some very definitive accomplishments that the president has done,” Scott said. “He delivered on promises he didn’t even make.”
The campaign and White House point to a list of achievements, including passage of bipartisan criminal justice reform legislation, which Trump signed into law last year, along with his ongoing support for opportunity zones in urban areas and new investments in historically black colleges.
“I don’t know anyone who’s done that kind of work outside of the president on attacking those big issues or trying to stop drugs from coming into the neighborhood and, at the same time, giving people second chances,” said Ja’Ron Smith, deputy assistant to the president and one of the White House’s few minority high-ranked officials.
Advisers also point to a series of economic gains, including the fact that black unemployment hit a record low last year, with fewer blacks living in poverty. But Trump and his campaign also have a tendency to exaggerate the gains, giving Trump credit for trends that were years in the making, seizing on momentary upticks, cherry-picking favorable statistics and ignoring more troubling ones, such as black home ownership and net worth.
Congressional Black Caucus Chairwoman Karen Bass, D-Calif., said Thursday that contrary to Trump’s claims, in the three years of his presidency, African Americans have lost a lot.
“He has never had support from African Americans, but what we know about the president is that he will lie and say that he has,” said Bass, who noted that Trump rarely appears before black audiences.
“He has to identify a handful of African Americans and take them with him wherever he goes,” she said.
If he were any other Republican incumbent who inherited declining unemployment numbers and was able to sustain them, Trump would have a legitimate case to make to black voters, said Republican strategist Shermichael Singleton. But “because of some of his racial pronouncements … I think a significant percentage of African Americans are completely turned off.”
A September AP-NORC poll found that only roughly 3 in 10 Americans say the things Trump has done as president have been good for African Americans. And just 4% of African Americans said they think Trump’s actions have had a positive impact on African Americans in general, while 81% said they think they’ve been bad.
Yet even if he can’t win over black voters, some suspect that’s not the point. As long as the campaign can keep on-the-fence voters from casting their ballots for the eventual Democratic nominee, the campaign will be helping Trump inch closer to a second victory.
Some analysts have pointed to a precipitous drop in black turnout in 2016 as one of the reasons Trump beat his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton, who was far less popular — especially among black men —than former President Barack Obama, the nation’s first black president.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, about 60% of non-Hispanic blacks voted in 2016, versus about 67% in 2012. And that drop was seen in cities with significant African American populations in critical swing states that helped Trump eke out a victory.
“I do think the main objective is to discourage turnout,” said Johnson. “I absolutely think this is about creating doubt in black voters’ minds about the Democratic nominee” so people feel like “there’s almost no one worth voting for.”
And he said that fears were growing it might work.
“There is a pretty tangible fear among black Americans that Trump is going to win again because black turnout won’t be enough to mute the white turnout,” he said. “There’s a sense that in 2020 he’s going to win again.”

LeBron James is making another addition to his I Promise School. The Lebron James Family Foundation has partnered with Graduated Hotels to provide transitional housing f0r the students and their families. According to the statement, the hotel will be renovated to include individual living units for students and their families.

The building is about five blocks away from the school. Some of the students and their families experience poverty, domestic violence and homelessness. “Initially, our work was focused on helping these kids earn an education,” LeBron James said in a statement. “But we’ve found that it is impossible to help them learn if they are struggling to survive – if they are hungry, if they have no heat in the freezing winter, if they live in fear for their safety. We want this place to be their home where they feel safe, supported and loved, knowing we are right there with them every step of the way as they get back on their feet.”

“Proud of this!!!!! There’s always more to be done when it comes to giving my kids an opportunity to be successful in life,” James said on Twitter. “Every barrier we remove can possibly change their family’s life and we’re never going to stop!!”

Resignation Requests Mount For Jack Evans

There are demands for Jack Evans to resign as a DC council member and as a national committee member for the DC Democratic Party.

Half of his fellow DC Council members want Jack Evans to step down following the recent release of an ethics investigation.
Now the head of DC’s Democratic Party has asked Evans to resign as a national committee member.
An investigation, initiated by the DC Council, claims Evans violated council ethics rules by using his office to help his consulting clients who then paid him hundreds of thousands of dollars.  Council Chairman Phil Mendelson said Evans has “obliterated the public trust,” and called the report “damning.” At least six council members called on Evans to step down Tuesday. Ciara Talks Owning ‘Goodies’ Masters

“It’s pretty cool to know you’re out here running around and hustlin’ and bustlin’ and you’re not only performing songs you wrote, but you also own the masters to those songs.”

Contributed by Jordyn Fields

Ciara is entering a new phase of her life. The one, two step singer has a family, her own label and owns the masters to”Goodies,” the 15-year-old debut album that put her on the map.

“It’s an incredible chapter,” the singer told Entertainment Tonight. “It’s pretty cool to know you’re out here running around and hustlin’ and bustlin’ and you’re not only performing songs you wrote, but you also own the masters to those songs.”

“I used to dream about that while being signed to a label. I was like, the day that I get a chance, I want to own my own masters. I want to do it differently. Because after a while you kind of get frustrated with having to go through the same process — when you believe in something, when you have a vision for it, but the person who makes the decisions doesn’t share the same vision. When I got the chance, I actually wasn’t even planning on doing it in that moment,” she continued.

“Goodies” included songs like 1,2 Step and “Goodies”  both of which spent seven weeks as No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and “Oh” which peaked at No.2 on the chart.

The singer also revealed that she once again feels motivated to get back to work. In 2018 she got the opportunity to enjoy her efforts paying off when her song Level Up became part of a viral challenge.

“It’s amazing, the feeling that it gives you when you see people literally taking the time and effort to recreate what you created” Ciara said.

Ciara says she isn’t done yet and will continue to make music. She is now also a part of the new show America’s Most Musical Family.

Trump To Launch A.A. Initiative In The ATL

Trump has a long and tough road ahead of him to win the black vote. Research from the Associated Press NORC Center for Public Affairs shows 4% of African Americans believe Trump’s policies support or benefit people of color.

This Friday President Donald Trump will travel to Atlanta to kick off his new African American coalition. This event will be held at the Georgia World Congress Center.

Trump’s Black Voices for Trump Coalition says the event will begin at 3 p.m. It follows a huge fundraiser in the exclusive neighborhood of Buckhead for U.S. Senator David Perdue.

Sources close say the President will highlight the recent unemployment statistics for blacks and the will also discuss his opportunity zone program that was included in the 2017 Republican tax-cutting legislation. The measure was created to encourage investors to pour money into struggling areas.

The October jobs report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics released their report yesterday. It shows the black unemployment rate is 50 percent higher than the national average. The national average is 3.6 percent a nearly 50 year low.

White House officials say they chose Atlanta to announce the initiative because it’s the epicenter of black life and it is also the fast-growing African American community. We have word that Vice President Mike Pence will also speak.

This is the President’s seventh visit to the state since he became President. That fundraiser in Buckhead will begin with a discussion that will cost attendees $100,000. The luncheon that follows will cost supporters $2,800 to attend plus a $35,000 donation if you want a picture with him.

A Man Is Killed Over A Popeye’s Chicken Sandwich In Oxon Hill

Police are asking anyone in the crowded restaurant to please contact them to share with them what they say. The number to call is 301-352-1200.

It’s unbelievable. A 28-year-old man is dead this morning after an altercation last night of Popeye’s wildly popular chicken sandwich.

Witnesses say around 7 last night at the Popeye’s on Livingston Road the two men exchanged words after one of them accused the other of cutting in line. The victim was rushed to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The store had established a special line for those who wanted the sandwiches which caused a massive craze after selling out two months ago. According to police, the actual stabbing took place outside of the restaurant.

Officers around 7 p.m. and found the victim and began life-saving measures. He was pronounced dead some 50 minutes later. Police are baffled by this senseless loss of life over food.

Virginians Head To Polls On November 5th.

Virginia Elections To Be Held Tuesday

(Richmond, VA) — Virginians will be heading to the polls Tuesday for an election that could shift the state’s majority. Republicans are going into the election with hopes of protecting their paper-thin majority of 51-48 in the House, and 20-19 in the Senate. Democrats are hoping to become the majority party as all 140 seats in the General Assembly are up for grabs. President Trump urged Virginia residents to vote Republican in all local and state races, and Vice President Mike Pence recently spoke in Virginia Beach to rally support for the GOP. Former Vice President Joe Biden spoke in Sterling Sunday to fire up Democratic voters. Of the four states holding legislative contests this year, Virginia is the only one where control is up for grabs.

RHOA’s Kenya Moore Opens Up About Split From Husband

RHOA star, Kenya Moore, opens up about her relationship with her estranged spouse Marc Daly.

Contributed by Jordyn Fields

Kenya Moore and Marc Daly announced their separation back in September. The couple who had only been married for two years, share a one year old daughter.

The two only dated for seven months and wed before even announcing their relationship. Moore says she doesn’t feel like she rushed into it because “when you’re a certain age, you know.”

The RHOA star told People, “Looking back, I think, ‘Okay, we should have discussed more things about religion, we should have discussed living conditions, we should have discussed those important things.’ Those are the things we missed.”

Moore went on to say that money was not the cause of their issues. She also revealed that the pair never signed a prenup. “Listen, we’re both successful. I own my home outright prior to marriage and for what I know, not being a lawyer, I think that’s protected. That’s my biggest asset. And you know, Marc’s successful. So I don’t think that things [will] ever get to a point where he will come after money. He hasn’t yet,” she explained.

Moore says she wants to continue to try to save her relationship but feels Daly isn’t on the same page. “Marc doesn’t seem to be there. I’d feel more comfortable calling it quits if I knew I’d tried everything and it still didn’t work. And we definitely didn’t do everything we could have done to save our relationship,” she said.

The former couple have yet to officially file for divorce.
