It’s been reported that the LAPD is investigating Mrs. Knowles-Lawson and ‘Snowfall’ star Damson Idris’s home that was burglarized Monday, July 3rd. This is possibly apart of a string of incidents. Otherwise, you can monitor them at home, just keep the Pedialyte and water flowing. Doctors say do not use anti-diarrhea medications on young kids.

Dear Black People, Why Are We Killing Each Other?

We’re trying to have an honest conversation about gun violence in the black community.

It has been a very violent week in the DMV and across the nation. Black communities have been hit particularly hard by deadly gun violence.  Arrests have been made in deadly mass shootings in Salisbury, Maryland, Baltimore, and Philadelphia.  In DC, the political wrangling over the mayor’s crime bill continues ahead of a critical DC council vote on Tuesday.  Members of our community continue racking their brains about solutions to fix this violence conundrum.  We’re trying to have an honest conversation about gun violence in the black community.  Dear Black people, why are we killing each other?

Darius Daulton Jackson wasn’t happy with the fans’ reaction to the video and Palmer’s outfit. He took to Twitter to criticize his girlfriend’s outfit, saying, “It’s the outfit tho… you a mom.”

While fans called Jackson “insecure” and wrong for airing her out, Jackson doubled down saying, “We live in a generation where a man of the family doesn’t want the wife & mother to his kids to showcase booty cheeks to please others & he gets told how much of a hater he is. Aretha Franklin’s Sons Battle Over Handwritten Wills 5 Years After Her Death

Aretha Franklin’s final wishes remain unsettled, even five years after her death.

Aretha Franklin’s final wishes remain unsettled, even five years after her death.  An unusual trial starts next Monday (July 10) to decide which of two handwritten wills, including one found in couch cushions, will determine estate handling.

The Queen of Soul had four sons and no formal will, despite health problems and attempts to create one. Under Michigan law, other documents can still be treated as her commands, even if they have scribbles, scratch-outs, or hard-to-read passages.

Ted White II prefers 2010 papers for estate control, while Kecalf Franklin and Edward Franklin prefer a 2014 document. Both were found in Franklin’s Detroit home after her death from pancreatic cancer in 2018 at age 76.

Ben & Jerry’s Faces Backlash Over 4th Of July Message

On July 4, Ben & Jerry’s drew a line in the sand, speaking on American patriotism and demanding that the United States hand up centuries-old stolen property.

On July 4, Ben & Jerry’s drew a line in the sand, speaking on American patriotism and demanding that the United States hand up the centuries-old stolen property. The renowned ice cream company, which has grown more political over the years, issued a provocative statement on Tuesday in honor of the festival, which, unavoidably, infuriated roughly half the country given the context.
The company stated, “The United States was founded on stolen indigenous land. This Fourth of July, let’s commit to returning it.” Ben & Jerry’s website continued, “What is the meaning of Independence Day for those whose land this country stole, those who were murdered and forced with brutal violence onto reservations, those who were pushed from their holy places and denied their freedom.”
While people online criticized the company for its position, and others accused the brand of betraying the nation for promoting what they saw to be anti-American beliefs on what some would say is the most important national holiday intended to celebrate America.
The holiday doesn’t mark the true independence of all Americans, as we recently celebrated Juneteenth on June 19th. A day commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. While others may feel it was an anti-American statement made by the company, the company might not feel any backlash from the people in which the company was simply speaking on their behalf.

An Australian man asked his wife for a divorce just 24 hours after they got married – because she wouldn’t put out on their wedding night. That’s according to the bride, who made the revelation on an Australian radio show.

The woman, who identified herself as “Rachel,” says her wedding day left her pooped and she was too tired to have sex that night – prompting her newlywed husband to make the demand after just 24 hours. “The night of the wedding, we went out, and when we got back to the hotel room, unfortunately, I didn’t give him what he wanted,” Rachel says.

The two had been sexually active prior to getting married, she adds. Although Rachel says her husband’s reaction has left her “miserable,” a number of online commenters are saying she’s lucky to have dodged a major marital bullet. One says, “Men like him deserve to stay single.”

How would you react if your wife refused to have sex with you on your wedding night?

The Top 9 Grilling Mistakes And How To Fix Them

Here’s a list of the biggest grilling don’ts and how to avoid them.

I love to grill, and barbecue, and I have devoted my career to outdoor cooking for more than two decades. During that time, I’ve seen a lot of mistakes, and people tend to make them over and over. So I put together a list of the biggest grilling don’ts and how to avoid them. Print this list and refer to it the next time you get ready to grill!

NEVER OIL THE GRILL

Many people oil the cooking grates — big blunder! Follow my mantra: “Oil the food, not the grates!” If you brush oil on hot cooking grates (and a lit grill), you run the risk of a big flare-up. The oil that you have brushed on will instantly burn leaving a sticky residue that will “glue” your food to the grates, making it stick, break apart and dry out like dehydrating food. If you oil the food, it will stay juicy, promote caramelization_those great grill marks! And help to prevent “stickage.”

DON’T PUT FOOD ON A COLD GRILL

Always preheat a gas grill with all burners on high or wait until charcoal briquettes are covered with white-gray ash. Preheating also burns off residue and makes it easier to clean the grill. Contrary to popular belief, you don’t ever need to cook on a grill that is hotter than 550 F. The hotter the grill, the more likely you will burn the outside of the food before the inside is cooked.

CLEAN THAT DIRTY GRILL

An outdoor grill is like a cast-iron skillet. It gets better and better the more you use it, but you do need to clean it every time you use it. Clean the grill grates twice every cook-out with a stiff metal bristle grill cleaning brush before and after you cook. If you do this, it will never be a big job to clean your grill. If you don’t have a grill cleaning brush, crumble a ball of heavy-duty aluminum foil and hold it in a pair of 12-inch locking chef tongs to use to clean the grill.

KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DIRECT AND INDIRECT HEAT

The most frequent mistake is to choose the wrong cooking method. To be a good griller, you must know the difference between direct, indirect or combo grilling and when to use them. Direct grilling means that the food is set directly over the heat source — similar to broiling in your oven. Indirect grilling means that the heat is on either side of the food and the burners are turned off under the food — similar to roasting and baking in your oven. Combo grilling means that you sear the food over direct heat (i.e., to sear a tenderloin, or large steak) before moving it to indirect heat to finish the cooking process. Remember this general rule of thumb: If the food takes less than 20 minutes to cook, use the DIRECT METHOD. If the food takes more than 20 minutes to cook, use the INDIRECT METHOD.

THE RIGHT WAY TO DEAL WITH FLARE-UPS

Never use a water bottle to extinguish a flare-up. Spraying water on a hot fire can produce steam vapors which may cause severe burns. The water can also crack the porcelain-enamel finish, resulting in damage to your grill. Fire loves oxygen, so cook with the lid down and don’t peek. Repeatedly lifting the lid to “peek” and check the food while it’s cooking lengthens cooking time. If you have a full-on fire, turn all the burners off, remove the food and extinguish the flames with kosher salt or baking soda. In a worst-case scenario, use a fire extinguisher but know that it will ruin your grill.

AVOID FREQUENT FLIPPING

If you are cooking food by the direct method (hamburgers, hot dogs, boneless chicken breasts, small steaks, vegetables, etc.), flip only once halfway through the cooking time. All protein will stick to the grates as soon as it makes contact with the hot grill grates. As it cooks, it will naturally release itself, and that is when you can turn it over with a pair of tongs. Just remember to oil the food, not the grates!

DODGE CROSS-CONTAMINATION

One of the most common mistakes backyard cooks make is using the same tongs for raw and cooked foods. This creates cross-contamination and can result in food-borne illness. It’s easy to fix this problem. I have been color-coding my 12-inch locking chef tongs with red and green duct tape for as long as I have been grilling. The different colors help me to remember which pair of tongs I used for raw food (red), like chicken, and which are safe to use for the cooked food (green). And remember to use a separate clean platter for your cooked food, too.

DON’T SAUCE TOO SOON

If I had a dime for every time I saw someone pour thick sweet barbecue sauce on bone-in-chicken pieces or a whole rack of ribs while they were raw, I would be a very wealthy griller! All barbecue sauces have a lot of sugar in them and sugar burns very quickly. Almost always burning the outside of the food before the inside cooks. Generally I only brush food with sauce during the final 10-15 minutes of cooking time. With ribs that cook 2-3 hours, I will brush with a diluted sauce (1/2 beer and 1/2 sauce) for the final 30 minutes of cooking time.

RESIST TESTING FOR DONENESS BY CUTTING

Cutting your food to test for doneness is another common way people bungle their food. When you cut any protein, you are letting the precious juices escape and if the food is under-cooked, the area where it was cut will be over-cooked when you put it back on the grill. Use an instant-read meat thermometer to test for doneness, and always let your food rest for at least 5 minutes before cutting into it.

It is a landmark decision that will immediately impact the racial make-up of predominately white institutions of higher learning.

Affirmative Action on college campuses ended today.  The Supreme Court ruled in two separate cases, saying race cannot be a consideration for college admissions.  It is a landmark decision that will immediately impact the racial make-up of predominately white institutions of higher learning.  But it may not stop there.

SCOTUS Says NO to Affirmative Action In College Admissions

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled today that race cannot be a factor when deciding college admissions.

Washington, D.C. (Thursday, June 29, 2023) – The U.S. Supreme Court has  struck down affirmative action in college admissions.  The justices ruled in two separate cases overturning admissions plans at Harvard and the University of North Carolina.

Experts say today’s decision will have long range implications not only for higher education.  But also for the American workplace. The 6-3 and 6-2 decisions respectfully, were led by the conservative arm of the high court.

Chief Justice John Roberts said that for too long universities have “concluded, wrongly, that the touchstone of an individual’s identity is not challenges bested, skills, built, or lessons learned, but the color of their skin.  Our constitutional history does not tolerate that choice.”

Justice Sonia Sotomayor wrote in dissent that the decision actually “rolls back decades of precedent and momentous progress.”  The court’s first Black female justice, Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson called the decision “truly a tragedy for us all.”

Reaction to today’s decision has been widespread from many civil rights groups and others.

Howard University released the following statement on today’s high court ruling:

Today’s Supreme Court decision to overturn affirmative action is deeply concerning. As a University dedicated to racial equity and justice, and whose faculty, students and storied alumni have advocated on the front lines to achieve equitable access for people of color, we understand the incredible challenge this decision will create for far too many individuals and communities.

The decision will not only have a devastating impact on the diversity of colleges and universities across the country, but will also decrease access to higher education for students of color everywhere. Education is still a top driver of economic success for all Americans, and this decision will have far-reaching ramifications for those seeking equity in the college admissions process and beyond.

At our core, Howard University is committed to developing scholars and professionals who drive change. At a time when we need it most, it is disheartening to know that this ruling will hinder certain students from gaining admission to institutions of higher learning and receiving a quality education that can prepare them to be change agents and contributing members of our society.

We will continue to partner with those institutions and organizations that understand the critical role affirmative action has played in ensuring equitable access to education for students of color and will closely monitor how today’s decision will impact higher education trends in the short and long term. We will also encourage others to join us in advocating for policies and legislation that safeguard a stronger future by increasing, not decreasing, educational opportunities for all.

Due to pollution, swimming in the Anacostia River has been illegal since the 1970s For the first time in 50 years, July 8th for a one-time swim event.

The Anacostia Riverkeeper, Trey Sherard, says “We live in a city with two rivers.”He continued, “I really hope for a future where everybody can enjoy that and it’s not a source of fear or concern.”

Sherard shares, why the river has been out of commission,  “The problem last year, was not water quality.” He added, “Water quality was pretty good most of the summer. The problem last summer was red tape.” For almost 20 years DC Water put to work the $2.7 billion project to cleanse the water.

“Eventually, as we document that it’s safe to swim and we show more people that it’s safe to swim, we want to see the District move towards pulling down the swim ban, at least for the sites that we know are regularly safe,” Sherard says.
