Donald Glover, also known as the rapper Childish Gambino, creator of FX series ‘Atlanta,’ has a new Amazon series underway and has employed former first daughter, Malia Obama, to join the writer’s room.

“She’s just like an amazingly talented person,” Glover told Vanity about the 23-year-old. “She’s really focused, and she’s working really hard… I feel like she’s just somebody who’s gonna have really good things coming soon,” he said. “Her writing style is great.”

As reported by Vanity, Obama’s work with Glover follows numerous internships, including a stint at HBO’s Girls in 2015 and at the Weinstein Company in 2017. She also worked as a production assistant on the Halle Berry television drama, Extant, before graduating from Harvard last year.

Stephen Glover, Donald Glover’s younger brother and writer on ‘Atlanta,’ spoke about how the talented writer handles getting some of her pitches turned down.

Stephen joked, “Well, you know, we just hurt her feelings. We can’t be easy on her just because she’s the [former] president’s daughter.” He added, “Nah, she’s very down to earth, and cool. So, it’s not a problem at all. She has a lot of good ideas. She’s great. She’s just a regular person like everybody else,” the writer for the upcoming ‘House Party’ remake.

The Amazon series is potentially titled ‘Hive,’ which is reportedly about a Beyoncé-type character. Glover is writing and executive producing the project.

Celebrity Makeup Artist, AJ Crimson, Passes Away at 27

Celebrity makeup artist, beauty expert, entrepreneur, and beauty influence, AJ Crimson has tragically passed away at 27 years old.

By Brooks Welch

Celebrity makeup artist, beauty expert, entrepreneur, and beauty influence, AJ Crimson has reportedly passed away at 27 years old.

According to Essence, Crimson was credited with being one of the first makeup artists to expertly enhance the beauty of women within all shades. He served celebrity clients including Lauren London, Missy Elliot, Regina King, Brandy, and Angela Bassett.

As reported by Dexerto, the Detroit-native built a substantial social media following, primarily on Instagram, with over 100,000 followers.

“AJ Crimson’s branding has been highlighted in industry-leading magazines such as Vogue, Harper’s BAZAAR, Glamour, InStyle, Esquire, Essence, and Marie Claire, as well as leading Japanese entertainment magazines Blenda and Luire,” writes Teal Mango.

In 2020, Crimson spoke to Yahoo! about his passion for the beauty industry and his mission within it.

“My vision for AJ Crimson Beauty was luxury cosmetics with Black women in mind first,” he said. “As a makeup artist, my entire career I gravitated to luxury products for my clientele. Yet there weren’t always products at that level that worked with some of my more melanin-rich clients.”

This led Crimson to his entrepreneurial ventures, AJ Crimson Beauty, and a new perspective on beauty.

“I thought it was a shame only drug store options [were] available, so I knew I had to change that,” he said. “I love beautiful things, people, fashion, architecture. The beauty industry sort of found me; I thought I’d be in politics, public speaking or artist management, which are all passions of mine [and] have been involved in, but beauty has taken me all over the world in a very interesting way.”

His cause of death has not yet been confirmed.

Heckler Shouting ‘Will Smith’ Escorted Out Of Chris Rock’s Sold-Out Comedy Show

Chris Rock did his first comedy show in Boston since he was infamously slapped by Will Smith.

Chris Rock did his first comedy show in Boston since he was infamously slapped by Will Smith. A heckler shouting “Will Smith,” was escorted from Boston’s Wilbur Theatre on Wednesday (30 March).  Rock responded to the outburst by saying, “Is this the way the tour is going to go?” Later during the show, Rock said he was “still processing” what happened on Sunday evening during his Oscar appearance.  There is a report that two hecklers shouted Will Smith’s name during Rock’s live show, the crowd boo’d both individuals. Rock said “despite what you’ve heard,” he hadn’t spoken to Smith.  “I’m still processing what happened, so at some point I’ll talk about that s***,” he said. “It’ll be serious. It’ll be funny, but right now I’m going to tell some jokes,” said Rock.  Do you think Chris Rock will have a hard time on tour by not discussing the slap?

“Questlove” Won Oscar Only Minutes After Slap

Another award that was overshadowed at the Oscars

Legendary drummer of The Roots, Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson, won the award for his directorial role of Summer of Soul. Summer of Soul is a musical documentary about the 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival, which celebrated African-American music and culture. Questlove accepted the award a few minutes after the slap. What Will Smith and Chris Rock did really stained what should have been the best moment for Questlove. He managed to get through that by going up on stage along with his producers, accept the award from Chris Rock, and gave out a meaningful speech.

Smith Refused To Leave Oscars After Hitting Rock

Officials with the Oscars say they tried to get Chris Rock to leave ceremony.

NEW YORK (AP) — The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences on Wednesday said that Will Smith was asked to leave to Sunday’s Oscar ceremony after hitting Chris Rock but refused to do so.

The academy’s board of governors met Wednesday to initiate disciplinary proceedings against Smith for violations against the group’s standards of conduct. The academy said disciplinary action for Smith could include suspension, expulsion or other sanctions.

Many have focused on why Smith was allowed to remain seated front row at the Academy Awards after the incident. On Wednesday, the academy suggested that it attempted to remove the actor from the audience.

“Things unfolded in a way we could not have anticipated,” the academy said. “While we would like to clarify that Mr. Smith was asked to leave the ceremony and refused, we also recognize we could have handled the situation differently.”

A representative for the academy declined to give specifics on how it tried to removed Smith. After Smith struck Rock in response to a joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, several stars including Denzel Washington, Bradley Cooper and Tyler Perry spoke with the 53-year-old Smith.

The academy said Smith has the opportunity to defend himself in a written response before the board meets again on April 18. The film academy earlier condemned Smith’s onstage assault of Rock, but it used stronger language Wednesday.

“Mr. Smith’s actions at the 94th Oscars were a deeply shocking, traumatic event to witness in-person and on television,” the academy said. “Mr. Rock, we apologize to you for what you experienced on our stage and thank you for your resilience in that moment. We also apologize to our nominees, guests and viewers for what transpired during what should have been a celebratory event.”

On Monday, Smith issued an apology to Rock, the academy and to viewers, saying “I was out of line and I was wrong.”

A representative for Smith didn’t immediately respond to messages Wednesday regarding the academy’s latest moves.

Baltimore Will Pay $3.5 Million To Local Businesses Damaged During Freddie Gray Protests

The city of Baltimore has reached a $3.5 million settlement with local businesses damaged during protests and unrest over the 2015 death of Freddie Gray.

The city of Baltimore has reached a $3.5 million settlement with local businesses damaged during protests and unrest over the 2015 death of Freddie Gray.
Nearly 70 businesses were part of the lawsuit, first filed in 2017. They claim police response was slow during the riots, and that then-Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake made things worse with comments about giving “those who wished to destroy space to do that”.
Gray died in police custody after he was arrested in April 2015. None of the six officers involved in his death were convicted of a crime.
Should the city be held liable here? Could this settlement impact similar lawsuits in other cities?

Historic Anti-Lynching Act Becomes Law

President Biden signs long overdue anti-lynching bill into law.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden on Tuesday signed a bill into law to make lynching a federal hate crime, more than 100 years after such legislation was first proposed.

The Emmett Till Anti-Lynching Act is named after the Black teenager whose killing in Mississippi in the summer of 1955 became a galvanizing moment in the civil rights era. His grieving mother insisted on an open casket to show everyone how her son had been brutalized.

Biden acknowledged the long delay during remarks in the Rose Garden to lawmakers, administration officials and civil rights advocates, stressing how the violent deaths of Black Americans were used to intimidate them and prevent them from voting simply because of their skin color.

“Thank you for never giving up, never ever giving up,” the president said. “Lynching was pure terror to enforce the lie that not everyone, not everyone, belongs in America, not everyone is created equal.”

But the president stressed that forms of racial terror continue to exist in the U.S. — creating the need for the law.

“Racial hate isn’t an old problem — it’s a persistent problem,” Biden said. “Hate never goes away. It only hides.”

The new law makes it possible to prosecute a crime as a lynching when a conspiracy to commit a hate crime leads to death or serious bodily injury, according to the bill’s champion, Rep. Bobby Rush, D-Ill. The law lays out a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison and fines.

The House approved the bill 422-3 on March 7, with eight members not voting, after it cleared the Senate by unanimous consent. Rush also had introduced a bill in January 2019 that the House passed 410-4 before that measure stalled in the Senate.

Congress first considered anti-lynching legislation more than 120 years ago. It had failed to pass such legislation nearly 200 times, beginning with a bill introduced in 1900 by North Carolina Rep. George Henry White, the only Black member of Congress at the time.

The NAACP began lobbying for anti-lynching legislation in the 1920s. A federal hate crime statute eventually was passed and signed into law in the 1990s, decades after the civil rights movement.

Till, 14, had traveled from his Chicago home to visit relatives in Mississippi in 1955 when it was alleged that he whistled at a white woman. Till was kidnapped, beaten and shot in the head. A large metal fan was tied to his neck with barbed wire before his body was thrown into a river. His mother, Mamie Till, insisted on an open casket at the funeral to show the brutality her child had suffered.

Two white men, Roy Bryant and his half-brother J.W. Milam, were accused, but acquitted by an all-white-male jury. Bryant and Milam later told a reporter that they kidnapped and killed Till.

Additional COVID Booster Approved

A second Covid-19 booster shot for those over 50 years-old authorized by the FDA.

U.S. regulators on Tuesday authorized another COVID-19 booster for people age 50 and older, a step to offer extra protection for the most vulnerable in case the coronavirus rebounds.

The Food and Drug Administration’s decision opens a fourth dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines to that age group at least four months after their previous booster.

Until now, the FDA had cleared fourth doses only for people 12 and older who have severely weakened immune systems. The agency said this especially fragile group also can get an additional booster, a fifth shot.

The latest expansion, regardless of people’s health, allows an extra shot to millions more Americans — and the question is whether everyone who’s eligible should rush out and get it. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is expected to weigh in.  Everyone eligible for a first booster who hasn’t gotten one yet needs to, FDA vaccine chief Dr. Peter Marks said. But the second booster is only for these higher-risk groups because “current evidence suggests some waning of protection” for them.

The move comes at a time of great uncertainty. COVID-19 cases have dropped to low levels after the winter surge of the super-contagious omicron variant. Two vaccine doses plus a booster still provide strong protection against severe disease and death, CDC data show.

But an omicron sibling is causing a worrisome jump in infections in Europe — and spreading in the U.S. — even as vaccination has stalled. About two-thirds of Americans are fully vaccinated, and half of those eligible for a first booster haven’t gotten one.

Pfizer had asked the FDA to clear a fourth shot for people 65 and older, while Moderna requested another dose for all adults “to provide flexibility” for the government to decide who really needs one. The FDA set age 50 as the threshold for both companies. As for the immune-compromised, only the Pfizer vaccine can be used in those as young as 12; Moderna’s is for adults.

There’s limited evidence to tell how much benefit another booster could offer right now. FDA made the decision without input from its independent panel of experts that has wrestled with how much data is required to expand shots.

“There might be a reason to top off the tanks a little bit” for older people and those with other health conditions, said University of Pennsylvania immunologist E. John Wherry, who wasn’t involved in the government’s decision.

But while he encourages older friends and relatives to follow the advice, the 50-year-old Wherry — who is healthy, vaccinated and boosted — doesn’t plan on getting a fourth shot right away. With protection against severe illness still strong, “I’m going to wait until it seems like there’s a need.”

None of the COVID-19 vaccines are as strong against the omicron mutant as they were against earlier versions of the virus. Also, protection against milder infections naturally wanes over time. But the immune system builds multiple layers of defense and the type that prevents severe illness and death is holding up.

During the U.S. omicron wave, two doses were nearly 80% effective against needing a ventilator or death — and a booster pushed that protection to 94%, the CDC recently reported. Vaccine effectiveness was lowest — 74% — in immune-compromised people, the vast majority of whom hadn’t gotten a third dose.

U.S. health officials also looked to Israel, which during the omicron surge opened a fourth dose to people 60 and older at least four months after their last shot. The FDA said no new safety concerns emerged in a review of 700,000 fourth doses administered.

Preliminary data posted online last week suggested some benefit: Israeli researchers counted 92 deaths among more than 328,000 people who got the extra shot, compared to 232 deaths among 234,000 people who skipped the fourth dose.

What’s far from clear is how long any extra benefit from another booster would last, and thus when to get it.

“The ‘when’ is a really difficult part. Ideally we would time booster doses right before surges but we don’t always know when that’s going to be,” said Dr. William Moss, a vaccine expert at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

Plus, a longer interval between shots helps the immune system mount a stronger, more cross-reactive defense.

“If you get a booster too close together, it’s not doing any harm — you’re just not going to get much benefit from it,” said Wherry.

The newest booster expansion may not be the last: Next week, the government will hold a public meeting to debate if everyone eventually needs a fourth dose, possibly in the fall, of the original vaccine or an updated shot.

As for updating vaccines, studies in people — of omicron-targeted shots alone or in combination with the original vaccine — are underway. The National Institutes of Health recently tested monkeys and found “no significant advantage” to using a booster that targets just omicron.

After the viral incident of ‘King Richard’ actor Will Smith slapping comedian Chris Rock for his joke about Jada Pinkett Smith‘s hair during the Oscars,  a curiosity surrounding alopecia, a hair loss condition, has peaked.

Jada Pinkett Smith’s condition is called alopecia areata, a disease that occurs when the body’s immune system attacks hair follicles, often on the scalp or face, but sometimes on other parts of the body,” reports AP News.

Jada first revealed her diagnosis in 2018 on her Facebook show Red Table Talk, according to CNN. She said it was “terrifying” when her hair started falling out in clumps.

Alopecia areata can arise in childhood, adolescence or adulthood. People who have the condition tend to lose hair in clumps which causes round bald spots (via NY Times).

With early treatment, alopecia areata can be reversible. About 80 percent of people with the condition find that their hair regrows without treatment within a year, according to Medical News Today.

Yale Medicine reported steroid injections among traditional treatments for regrowing hair. The steroids suppress the immune system cells, so hair can regrow. There are also topical treatments, steroid tablets, immunotherapy, Dithranol cream, UV light treatment, and Minoxidil.

Besides Pinkett-Smith, other celebrities who have battled with alopecia and hair loss are Viola Davis, Tyra Banks, Christina Milian, and Naomi Campbell.

Study: Music Is As Effective As Exercise For Improving Mental Health

Your favorite song might be aiding in your overall well-being.

By Brooks Welch

Your favorite song might be aiding in your overall well-being.

According to a new study reported by Science Alert, the mental health boost from music is “within the range, albeit on the low end” of the same sort of impact seen in people who commit to physical exercise or weight loss programs.

According to AARP, research shows that music can have a beneficial effect on brain chemicals such as dopamine, which is linked to feelings of pleasure, and oxytocin, the so-called “love hormone.”

“Music seems to selectively activate neurochemical systems and brain structures associated with positive mood, emotion regulation, attention and memory in ways that promote beneficial changes,” Kim Innes, a professor of epidemiology at West Virginia University’s School of Public Health, told TIME .

A technique widely used by music therapists, that you can try at home, to relieve a patient’s stress is to practice “deep listening.” By meditating on the words, sounds, and feelings of a song, one can get in tune with their mental state and improve it.

“We can do that even when we’re feeling at our most isolated and sad,” says Suzanne Hanser, president of the International Association for Music & Medicine (IAMM) and a professor of music therapy at Berklee College of Music, “We can take control, we can be empowered by the music to feel differently.”

Oscars Recap: A Conversation about Will Smith and Chris Rock

Will Smith, Chris Rock and the Oscars that sent shock waves around the world.

The day after the Academy Awards the conversation normally is about who should have won the best picture Oscar, who deserved the best actor or actress award, or who looked best on the red carpet. Well, not this time.
Last night was one for the books.

Will Smith taking to the stage to smack Chris Rock after the comedian joked about Jada Pinkett-Smith’s shaved head.   But was Smith’s act that of chivalry or of someone unable to control his anger, which in another setting, say on the street, could have cost him, as it has other black men, dearly. And what of Rock’s joke aimed at the looks of women, especially in this case, a black women? Those issues and more part of our conversation tonight.

Tax Relief For Marylanders

Maryland’s governor and the state legislature agree on a massive tax relief legislation.

Tax relief is coming for Maryland retirees, small businesses and low-income families.
Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan and state legislatures have agreed on a near two-billion dollar tax relief package over the next five years.  Hogan called the bipartisan deal “the largest tax cut package in state history with major and long-overdue relief for Maryland’s retirees.”  The new tax relief agreement comes as the state has collected billions of dollars in surplus resulting from large amounts of COVID-19 pandemic federal aid.

Will Smith Apologizes To Chris Rock

A day after slapping Chris Rock at the Academy Awards ceremony, Will Smith apologizes to Rock.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The day after slapping Chris Rock on the stage of the 94th Academy Awards, Will Smith issued an apology to the comedian, the academy and viewers at home, saying he was “out of line” and that his actions are “not indicative of the man I want to be.”

The fallout of Sunday’s show continued Monday as the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences condemned Smith’s onstage assault and said it would launch an inquiry into it. Later in the day, Smith gave a stronger apology than he did in his best actor acceptance speech, which notably didn’t include apologizing to Rock.

“Violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive,” said Smith. “My behavior at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable. Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally. I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.”

Smith added apologies to the film academy, producers of the telecast, attendees, viewers and the Williams family. Smith was honored for his role as Richard Williams, father of Venus and Serena.

“I am a work in progress,” added Smith.

Earlier Monday, the film academy said: “The Academy condemns the actions of Mr. Smith at last night’s show. We have officially started a formal review around the incident and will explore further action and consequences in accordance with our bylaws, standards of conduct and California law.”

The fallout from Smith’s onstage assault continued Monday, as Hollywood and the public continued to wrestle with a moment that stunned the Dolby Theatre crowd and viewers at home, and may have passed all others — even that gold-standard flub, EnvelopeGate — in Academy Awards infamy.

Smith shocked the Dolby Theatre crowd and viewers at home when he took the stage during Rock’s remarks after the comedian made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith, Smith’s wife. Rock said, “Jada, I love you. ‘G.I. Jane 2,’ can’t wait to see it.”

The joke touched a nerve. Pinkett Smith, whose head is shaved, has spoken publicly about her alopecia diagnosis. Smith strode on stage and slapped Rock across the face. Back in his seat, Smith twice shouted for Rock to “get my wife’s name out your (expletive) mouth.” His words echoed clearly throughout the Dolby, though broadcaster ABC cut the audio for about 15 seconds. Within an hour, Smith won best actor. During his acceptance speech, Smith apologized to the academy.

After the show Sunday night, the academy posted a statement condemning violence. The Los Angeles Police Department said Sunday it was aware of the incident but not pursuing an investigation because the person involved declined to file a police report.

Some academy members, like writer-producer Marshall Herskovitz, called for the academy to take disciplinary action against Smith.

“He disgraced our entire community tonight,” wrote Herskovitz on Twitter.

Whoopi Goldberg, a member of the Academy’s board of governors, said Monday on “The View”: “We’re not going to take that Oscar from him. There will be consequences, I’m sure.”

The Screen Actors Guild also weighed in. The film, television and radio union called the incident “unacceptable” and said “violence or physical abuse in the workplace is never acceptable.” SAG said that it had been in contact with the academy and ABC, and it doesn’t comment on the guild’s own disciplinary process.

A sense of disbelief hung in the air at the Dolby Theatre after Smith’s assault, and it didn’t dissipate Monday. Not only was it a hard-to-fathom break with decorum on live national television — an incident so dramatic, even movie-like, that many initially assumed it was a staged bit — it seemed wildly out of character for one of Hollywood’s most relentlessly upbeat stars.

All of this less than an hour before Smith reached possibly the climactic moment of his career, winning his first Oscar, for best actor.

“In a way, I feel bad for Will Smith, too, because I think he let his emotions get the better of him, and this should have been one of the great nights of his life,” said former Oscar host Jimmy Kimmel on Bill Simmons’ podcast. “And now it’s not. Was there anyone who didn’t like Will Smith an hour ago in the world? Like no one, right? Now he doesn’t have a single comedian friend — that’s for sure.”

Some questioned whether Smith should have been allowed to continue to sit front and center after smacking Rock. Several stars rushed to counsel and calm Smith, including Denzel Washington, Bradley Cooper and Tyler Perry. But the timing was also awkward because the best actor category was due up soon after, and Smith had long been considered a lock for the award.

“I know we’re all still processing, but the way casual violence was normalized tonight by a collective national audience will have consequences that we can’t even fathom in the moment,” wrote Janai Nelson, president and director-counsel of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, on Twitter.

The joke that provoked Smith was not part of Rock’s routine during the rehearsals leading up to the show, according to two sources close to production who were not authorized to speak publicly.

Rock had joked about Pinkett Smith before. He hosted the 2016 Oscars, when some were boycotting the ceremony over the #OscarsSoWhite group of nominees, including the Smiths. Said Rock: “Jada boycotting the Oscars is like me boycotting Rihanna’s panties. I wasn’t invited.”

The drama overshadowed some historical wins at an Oscars. The deaf family drama “CODA” became the first film with a largely deaf cast to win best picture. For the first time, a streaming service, Apple TV+, took Hollywood’s top honor, signaling a profound shift in Hollywood and in moviegoing. Ariana DeBose of “West Side Story” became the first Afro-Latina and the first openly LGBTQ actor to win best supporting actress.

Study Reports New Male Birth Control Pill Is ‘99% Effective’ In Mice

According to Fortune, the first male birth control pill, which has shown significant results in lab trials, could begin human testing before the end of the year.

By Brooks Welch

According to Fortune, the first male birth control pill, which has shown significant results in lab trials, could begin human testing before the end of the year.

This compound has no apparent side effects and “greatly reduced mice sperm counts and ended up being 99 percent effective at preventing pregnancy (on a par with the pill’s effectiveness in women),” The Daily Beast reported.

In new findings presented at the spring meeting of the American Chemical Society on Wednesday, researchers at The University of Minnesota created a brand new drug, called YCT529, that targets not the male hormone testosterone, but a protein called retinoic acid receptor alpha (via The Daily Beast).

This new compound is a promising addition to pre-existing male contraceptives, condoms and vasectomies.

Md Abdullah Al Noman, a UM graduate student involved in the research project, recently spoke with The Daily Beast about these findings.

“Birth control is a critical health-care issue,” Al Noman said. “Because about more than half of all pregnancies in the U.S. are unintended pregnancies. And that can lead to very poor outcomes, whether in terms of the child’s health or maternal health and also financial and career advancement of women. We need to have more investment in the research and development of the male birth control pill.”

According to Indy 100, there is controversy about whether men will take the pill.

“People cited a general lack of trust as the main reason an everyday male birth control pill may not work,” writes the publication.

By Brooks Welch

Influential figures including multimedia mogul and TV personality Charlamagne tha God are advocating for Colon Cancer prevention in the Black community, a heinous disease that took the life of ‘Black Panther’ Chadwick Boseman.

“Too many of us have had friends or family that have been affected by colorectal cancer, so it’s important for me to speak out and help eliminate any embarrassment surrounding colorectal cancer screening,” said Charlamagne tha God.

According to statistics just released by the American Cancer Society, colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in men and women combined, and Black Americans are about 20% more likely to be diagnosed with colon cancer and 35% more likely to die from it. Despite the recent lowering of the minimum screening age to 45 from 50, many in the Black community will not get screened. (via Black Enterprise)

Alongside Charlamagne Tha God, other ambassadors for Alliance’s “They Didn’t Say” campaign include journalist, TV and podcast host, Brandon “Jinx” Jenkins, award-winning photographer, Mel D. Cole, and director, DJ, and designer, Vashtie.

The campaign’s primary aim is to bring attention to the disparities affecting the Black community and colon cancer. The initiative also wants to combat the misconception of colon cancer only affecting those later in life. (via Ebony)

The “They Didn’t Say” campaign is in collaboration with leading influencer and digital marketing agency Team Epiphany. The creative agency  founder, Coltrane Curtis, feels strongly about the initiative.

“As a Black American, and someone who has a platform for change, I am committed to reaching our community with this important call to action. There are so many issues facing us that we can’t control. Preventing colon cancer is one thing we can do. We aim to shift the scales on health equity with this campaign.”

Supreme Court Nominee Ketanji Jackson Moved To Tears By Senator Corey Booker’s Words

On Wednesday night, a video of Senator Corey Booker went viral as he gave a passionate speech to honor Supreme Court Nominee, Ketanji Jackson.

During the third day of Senate Judiciary Committee hearings, the New Jersey senator spoke to the greatness in Ketanji Jackson, the first Black woman in the Supreme Court.

“I want to tell you when I look at you, this is why I get emotional,” said Booker through tears, “I’m sorry — you’re a person that is so much more than your race and gender.”

Booker noted that Jackson is a Christian, a mother and an intellect and that she has a love of books. Jackson and others in the audience wiped away tears as Booker spoke. He also became emotional at times, reports NPR.

According to Yahoo! News and NPR, Booker is the fourth Black person elected to the U.S. Senate, the only Black member of the Senate committee and one of only three Black senators. In a position where identifying with one’s fellow Black colleagues can be seen as unwise or biased, Booker completely identified with Jackson’s presence in the Supreme Court.

“You faced insults here that were shocking to me — well, actually not shocking,” he said.

Republican senator Ted Cruz recently asked Supreme Court Nominee Jackson her thoughts on book “Anti-Racist Baby” by author Ibram X. Kendi,  “Do you agree with this book that is being taught to kids that babies are racist?” To which she responded with a long pause, followed by grace and poise. This was one example of the absurd interactions she has navigated during her confirmation hearings.

“It’s hard for me not to look at you and not see my mom. Not to see my cousins, one of them who had to come here and sit behind you. She had to have your back. I see my ancestors and yours,” Booker said. “But don’t worry, my sister. Don’t worry. God has got you. And how do I know that? You’re here, and I know what it’s taken for you to sit in that seat.

“You have earned this spot,” Booker said. “You are worthy. You are a great American.”

The committee will resume the confirmation hearings again Thursday, the fourth and final day, to hear from witnesses. (via Yahoo! News)
