“To me, the Cannes Film Festival (besides being the most important film festival in the world — no disrespect to anybody) has had a great impact on my film career. You could easily say Cannes changed the trajectory of who I became in world cinema,” said Lee.
Spike Lee will make history as the first black president of the Cannes Festival Jury this year.
In the festival’s 73-year history, Lee will be the first black person to hold the most prestigious position in the festival. The jury is responsible for deciding which film will receive the Palme d’Or, the highest honor.
“To me, the Cannes Film Festival (besides being the most important film festival in the world — no disrespect to anybody) has had a great impact on my film career. You could easily say Cannes changed the trajectory of who I became in world cinema,” said Lee in a statement.
The filmmaker’s history with the festival began in 1986, when his debut film, “She’s Gotta Have It,” won the festival’s Youth Prize for best young director, according to CNN. BlacKkKlansman, which he also directed, received the Grand Prix award at the festival in 2018. Throughout his career, seven of his films have received festival awards.
“Cannes is a natural homeland and a global sounding board for those who (re)awaken minds and question our stances and fixed ideas. Lee’s flamboyant personality is sure to shake things up. What kind of president of the jury will he be? Find out in Cannes!” said Cannes president Pierre Lescure and festival director Thierry Frémaux.
The festival will take place in Cannes, France from May 12 until May 23.
Warrant issued for Odell Beckham after video shows butt swat
The warrant comes as video posted on social media appears to show
Beckham swatting a security officer’s buttocks during LSU’s locker
room victory celebration after Monday night’s college national
championship game in the Superdome.
We are aware of the incident and have been in touch with Odell and
his representatives on the matter, the Browns said in a statement.
“They are cooperating with authorities to appropriately address the
situation.”

LSU players were seen smoking cigars – forbidden in the Superdome –
in pictures from the Monday night celebration. Authorities
reportedly warned them they could face arrest.
In a 27-second video available on Twitter, a security officer is
seen standing over an LSU player sitting on a locker room bench.
The officer appears to be searching around the bench and pointing
to the floor. He can be heard talking about a burn mark just
before Beckham approaches him from behind and appears to swat his
backside.
The arrest warrant follows another post-game controversy involving
Beckham.
Senate Formally Receives House Articles Of Impeachment. Senators Sworn-In As Jurors For Impeachment Trial.

An hour earlier the Senate formally received the House articles of impeachment against President Trump. House impeachment managers were in the Senate chamber and the two articles of impeachment were read aloud by California’s Adam Schiff. Schiff chairs the House Intelligence Committee. Trump was impeached for abusing power and obstructing Congress in the investigation of the Ukraine scandal. The House impeached the President last month. The Senate trial will determine whether Trump is removed from office.
The other House impeachment managers are California’s Zoe Lofgren, New York’s Hakeem Jeffries, Florida’s Val Demings, Colorado’s Jason Crow, Texan Sylvia Garcia and New York’s Jerry Nadler. Nadler chairs the House Judiciary Committee.
“My problem is the city is really not doing enough to address the homeless problem. There needs to be more adequate housing for low income people. They are treating the homeless like they are not human. The mayor is doing all this fabulous building of these big high-rises and people can’t afford these places,” said Aiyetoro, a volunteer with the Washington Legal Clinic for the Homeless.
WHUR News Director Renee Nash was live as the big eviction was underway and spoke with volunteers, homeless persons impacted, and advocates working to find new places for the homeless. City officials say the removal policy is necessary because of the large number of tents crowding narrow sidewalks like those on K Street. Mayor Bowser says the city is working with those impacted to offer homeless services.
But homeless advocates like Adjoa Aiyetoro decried today’s action, calling it inhumane.

City officials notified those housed under the bridge two-weeks ago that they had to move out or their items would be discarded. Shortly after 10am, city dump trucks and workers armed with brooms, shovels, and rakes moved in to discard all the tents and debris left behind. Volunteers also scrambled to help the homeless to move to an area around the corner or a few streets over.
Michael Harris, who is also wheelchair bound, has lived under the K Street Bridge for the past 8 months. He’s not sure where he will go next. He has a housing voucher. But says his housing will not be available for another six weeks. “For now, I will just have to keep living on the streets,” said Harris.

This launch features Beyonce as the sole owner of Ivy Park, something she calls a dream come true.

The latest DC State of the Schools report is out. The systems made gains in several areas, while improvement lagged in several others.
Over the past 5 five years enrollment is up two-percent; graduation rates for students with disabilities increased by 7%. At-risk and Black students are nine times likelier than their white peers to be suspended. Overall 29% of DC’s students missed 10 percent or more of
school last year, while 44% of those at-risk missed at least 10% of school. Wards 7 & 8 have the highest numbers of at-risk students and their numbers have increased over the past five years, while that number elsewhere in the city has largely decreased. The report finds that from 2003-2019, D.C.’s rank on the national assessment has moved from last or near last to middle-of-the-pack or better among participating cities. Achievement gaps persist of at least 48 percentage points between the highest-scoring group (white students) and other groups on the PARCC state assessment. Racial and ethnic diversity remains low across the city. In nearly half of DCPS and public charter schools, at least 90% of the student body is Black. White students make up 12% of enrollment. Thirteen schools have a majority-white student body. Student performance on the PARCC assessment since 2014-15 has risen 12 percentage points in English Language Arts and 9 percentage points in Math.

The annual induction ceremony will take place May 2 at the Public Auditorium in Cleveland, the city where the rock museum is located. The Saturday night show will be on HBO, televised live for the first time.
NEW YORK (AP) — Posthumous inductees Whitney Houston and The Notorious B.I.G. will lead a new class into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, joined by Depeche Mode, the Doobie Brothers, Nine Inch Nails and T-Rex.
The gospel-trained Houston, whose soaring voice transformed the Dolly Parton cover “I Will Always Love You” into a gigantic hit, was one of four artists elected after being on the ballot for the first time. The Doobie Brothers, Biggie and T-Rex were the others.
The annual induction ceremony will take place May 2 at the Public Auditorium in Cleveland, the city where the rock museum is located. The Saturday night show will be on HBO, televised live for the first time.
Houston, who succumbed to years of drug abuse in 2012, was an instant success after being signed to a record contract at age 19. Her 1985 debut had three No. 1 singles: “Saving All My Love for You,” “How Will I Know” and “The Greatest Love of All.” She had seven consecutive singles top the charts, a first for any artist.
The daughter of gospel singer Cissy Houston and cousin of Dionne Warwick, she grew up in the business.
The imposing, Brooklyn-born rap artist Christopher Wallace took on the identities of The Notorious B.I.G. and Biggie Smalls and was massively influential as rap became music’s dominant style in the 1990s. With hits like “Juicy” and “Big Poppa,” he was the leader of an East Coast school of rap that found itself in a bitter rivalry with artists from the West Coast.
He was killed in a still-unsolved drive-by shooting in Los Angeles at age 24 in 1997. On the album, “Life After Death,” with hits like “Mo Money Mo Problems” and “Hypnotize,” he became the first artist to earn multiple No. 1 singles after his death.
Depeche Mode remains active, but its biggest influence came in the 1980s, when its post-punk, synthesizer-dominated music made the Brits a favorite of the goth subculture. Hits included “Personal Jesus,” “Just Can’t Get Enough” and “Enjoy the Silence.”
Depeche Mode shares with fellow inductees Nine Inch Nails the honor of having one of their signature songs covered by country legend Johnny Cash, who recorded “Personal Jesus” and NIN’s “Hurt” during his late-career resurgence.
With songs like “Closer,” NIN was a leader of the industrial rock movement in the 1990s. Like Green Day, a memorable performance in the mud at Woodstock ’94 brought them a wider audience. Leader Trent Reznor has become a go-to soundtrack producer in addition to his continued work with Nine Inch Nails.
The Doobie Brothers weren’t critical favorites, but they had some indelible rock hits in the 1970s, including “Listen to the Music,” “Black Water” and “China Grove.” They’re embarking on a 50th anniversary tour this summer, bringing members Michael McDonald, Pat Simmons, Tom Johnston and John McFee together for the first time in 25 years, and a rock hall induction makes for perfect publicity.
The British band T-Rex was know primarily for its 1970s hit “Bang a Gong (Get it On)” and, to a lesser extent, “Jeepster.” The death of leader Marc Bolan in 1977 ended the band.
The two non-performing inductees may be able to bring some star power with them. Music manager Irving Azoff has watched the finances for several bands, but is best-known as the manager of the Eagles since 1974. Jon Landau is a former music journalist, known for an indelible line when he saw a concert by a little-known artist in 1974: “I saw rock ‘n’ roll’s future and its name is Bruce Springsteen.” Shortly thereafter, he became Springsteen’s manager, a job he still holds today.
Tickets for the induction ceremony go on sale Feb. 27. Performers will be announced at a later date.
Virginia’s governor says he will ban guns on the state’s capitol grounds ahead of a pro-gun rally there.
Pete Buttigieg is drawing the attention of Black Lives Matter and not in a good way. The activists group claims the former mayor is anti-black and anti-poor.

The show premiered back in October and has been a hit ever since. The series is based on the comic book of the same name. It is set in an alternate history where heroes are now outlaws.
This is King’s first role as a superhero however she told Vulture that she’s absolutely interested in doing another season. However, she says, “I don’t want there to be a second season if it’s not going to at least be comparable to this first season, which is going to be really hard to do.”
Regina King has been receiving high praises this year with her work in ‘If Beale Street Could Talk,’ Netflix’s Seven Seconds and now Watchmen. She has also been nominated for several NAACP awards for her role in Watchmen.
“Our campaign has reached the point where we need more money to scale up and continue building a campaign that can win — money we don’t have, and money that is harder to raise because I won’t be on the next debate stage and because the urgent business of impeachment will rightly be keeping me in Washington,” he said.
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Democrat Cory Booker dropped out of the presidential race Monday, ending a campaign whose message of unity and love failed to resonate in a political era marked by chaos and anxiety.
His departure now leaves a field that was once the most diverse in history with just one remaining African American candidate, former Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick.
Since launching his campaign last February, Booker, a U.S. senator from New Jersey, struggled to raise the type of money required to support a White House bid. He was at the back of the pack in most surveys and failed to meet the polling requirements needed to participate in Tuesday’s debate. Booker also missed last month’s debate and exits the race polling in low single digits in the early primary states and nationwide.
In an email to supporters, Booker said that he “got into this race to win” and that his failure to make the debates prevented him from raising raise the money required for victory.
“Our campaign has reached the point where we need more money to scale up and continue building a campaign that can win — money we don’t have, and money that is harder to raise because I won’t be on the next debate stage and because the urgent business of impeachment will rightly be keeping me in Washington,” he said.
Booker had warned that the looming impeachment trial of President Donald Trump would deal a “big, big blow” to his campaign by pulling him away from Iowa in the final weeks before the Feb. 3 Iowa caucuses. He hinted at the challenges facing his campaign last week in an interview on The Associated Press’ “Ground Game” podcast.
“If we can’t raise more money in this final stretch, we won’t be able to do the things that other campaigns with more money can do to show presence,” he said.
In his email to supporters, Booker pledged to do “everything in my power to elect the eventual Democratic nominee for president,” though his campaign says he has no immediate plans to endorse a candidate in the primary.
It’s a humbling finish for someone who was once lauded by Oprah Winfrey as the “rock star mayor” who helped lead the renewal of Newark, New Jersey. During his seven years in City Hall, Booker was known for his headline-grabbing feats of local do-goodery, including running into a burning building to save a woman, and his early fluency with social media, which brought him 1.4 million followers on Twitter when the platform was little used in politics. His rhetorical skills and Ivy League background often brought comparisons to President Barack Obama, and he’d been discussed as a potential presidential contender since his arrival in the Senate in 2013.
Now, Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren has mastered the art of the selfie on social media. Another former mayor, Pete Buttigieg of South Bend, Indiana, is seen as the freshest face in the field. And Booker’s message of hope and love seemed to fall flat during an era characterized perhaps most strongly by Democratic fury over the actions of the Trump administration.
An early focus on building out a strong and seasoned campaign operation in Iowa and South Carolina may have hampered his campaign in the long run, as the resources he spent early on staff there left him working with a tight budget in the later stages of the primary, when many of his opponents were going on air with television ads. That meant that even later in the campaign, after he had collected some of the top endorsements in Iowa and visited South Carolina almost more than any other candidate, a significant portion of the electorate in both states either said they were unfamiliar with his campaign or viewed him unfavorably.
On the stump, Booker emphasized his Midwestern connections — often referencing the nearly 80 family members he has still living in Iowa when he campaigned there — and delivered an exhortation to voters to use “radical love” to overcome what he considered Trump’s hate. But he rarely drew a contrast with his opponents on the trail, even when asked directly, and even some of Booker’s supporters worried his message on Trump wasn’t sharp enough to go up against a Republican president known for dragging his opponents into the mud.
Booker struggled to land on a message that would resonate with voters. He’s long been seen as a progressive Democrat in the Senate, pushing for criminal justice reform and marijuana legalization. And on the campaign trail, he proposed establishing a $1,000 savings account for every child born in the U.S. to help close the racial wealth gap.
He was among the first candidates to release a gun control plan, and at the time it was the most ambitious in the field, as it included a gun licensing program that would have been seen as political suicide just a decade before. He also released an early criminal justice reform plan that focused heavily on addressing sentencing disparities for drug crimes.
But he also sought to frame himself as an uplifting, unifying figure who emphasized his bipartisan work record. That didn’t land in a Democratic primary that has often rewarded candidates who promised voters they were tough-minded fighters who could take on Trump.
Booker’s seat is up for a vote this year, and he will run for reelection to the Senate. A handful of candidates has launched campaigns for the seat, but Booker is expected to have an easy path to reelection.
Booker’s exit from the presidential race further narrows the once two dozen-strong field, which now stands at 12 candidates.
Airstrikes from the United States and Iran have increased fears of a potential war between the two countries, prompting questions of have that can best be averted.

This trip really was AWESOME! This is a trip that you REALLY need to do for your family!
I stayed at the amazing Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. This place is laid out. A huge lobby area complete with several comfy couches that had a living room feel. This made me feel right at home and they even had a LIVE JAZZ BAND. And you know how I love my jazz! Major points Disney.
After checking in, I had time to check out a few great restaurants and a souvenir spot that I picked up a few items for loved ones back home.

Don’t tell my boss but I caught a few mins of shuteye while sitting next to their beautiful swimming pool. Don’t judge me! Sunshine, Pumas and Cheetos 🙂 Can you blame me?
Disney truly hooked a brother up with a gorgeous room but to be honest I didn’t spend too much time in there at all. The great team at Disney World really rolled out the “red carpet” and gave Team WHUR exclusive access to everything! The perks of having such a cool job.
We started off each day super early to head over to the STAR WARS Rise of the Resistance before the park even opened. I’ve NEVER experienced a ride like this before. It’s hard to put into words so just make sure you experience it for yourself. This ride was SUPER REALISTIC. You felt like you were part of the movie! Those storm troopers were no joke!
And of course the WHUR team came out on top.
I learned something though. When they say the park opens at 7am, they mean it! As soon we came out of Star Wars it was super packed instantly!
You have been warned..lol
Just the record, be prepared for the DISNEY WORLD experience to bring the kid out of you. I had chance to hang out with a few of the Disney characters that I grew up on and I did lose it a few times. Forgive me 🙂
Coming in March they have several NEW & EXCITING attractions that I had a chance to check out.
I got a sneak peak at MICKEY AND MINNIE RUNWAY RAILWAY. The ride puts you INSIDE the world of animation. This ride happens at DISNEY HOLLYWOOD at replica of the famous Chinese Theater where Mickey and Minnie made their original debut back in the day.

I also had the wonderful opportunity to attend the special meet and greet the creators of the BRAND NEW Cirque Du Soleil Drawn to Life. If you visit DISNEY you have to hit this one at Disney Springs. The story behind this production is ALL about family. You and your family will love it!
As you know I’m a BIG TIME SPORTS fan so I had to stop by the NBA EXPERIENCE. They had team jerseys and other gear and plenty of skills challenges. This was packed with kids!

My final day at DISNEY WORLD, I had the chance to stop by the DISNEY RIVIERA RESORT. This property had me feeling like I was actually outside the US!

The room had a INCREDIBLE view. The bathroom was a touch of elegance. There were all kinds of games for the family. A beach to relax and get your tan on and more.
The highlight for me was an Italian restaurant called TOPOLINO that had Mickey and Minnie entertaining us. I lost it!
You too have the chance to explore Walt Disney World with your family. For a limited time only, you can ENTER TO WIN A DISNEY FAMILY VACATION! Learn more here.

NEW YORK (AP) — “Grey’s Anatomy” has said goodbye to one of the long-running medical drama’s original cast members — Justin Chambers.
Chambers, who played Alex Karev on the show, left last season after a 15-year run. He leaves only three other actors who have been with the series since the first episode: Ellen Pompeo, James Pickens Jr. and Chandra Wilson.
Chambers’ last episode aired Nov. 14.
Chambers said in a statement he has “hoped to diversify my acting roles and career choices. And, as I turn 50 and am blessed with my remarkable, supportive wife and five wonderful children, now is that time.” He thanked ABC, show creator Shonda Rimes, the original cast members, the rest of the cast and crew and fans “for an extraordinary ride.”
Other actors who have left the show include Sandra Oh, Patrick Dempsey, Katherine Heigl, T.R. Knight and Isaiah Washington. “Grey’s Anatomy” is ABC’s No. 1 scripted drama in its 16th season.

“I’m very confident if we learn something … we will put new practices in place if necessary. We certainly take anyone’s critique of what it means to come to work here incredibly seriously,” the NBC Entertainment chairman told a TV critics meeting during a Q&A session.
PASADENA, Calif. (AP) — An investigation of Gabrielle Union’s complaints of racism and other troubling behavior on the set of “America’s Got Talent” is being taken very seriously by NBC, the network’s entertainment chief said Saturday.
Paul Telegdy said the company will respond appropriately when it receives the findings of its inquiry, which he said may be completed by the end of January.

“We want to always go after the truth. That’s our culture here, you can ask anyone who works here,” he said.
Union, known for her roles in the films “Bring It On” and “Bad Boys II,” was a judge on the talent showcase for a season, until she and fellow freshman judge Julianne Hough weren’t asked to return.
The trade publication Variety reported that Union, who is black, believed she was fired because she had asked NBC and the show’s producers to respond to an environment that tolerated racist jokes and remarks. That included what Union said were multiple notes from producers saying she was wearing her hair “too black” for the “America’s Got Talent” audience.
Union had also complained of other behavior, such as judge-producer Simon Cowell’s smoking on the indoor set, Variety reported in November.
NBC has spoken with Union as part of its formal investigation that began in early December.
Without directly referring to NBC or the two companies that produce the show, Fremantle and Syco, Union has tweeted about her situation several times, acknowledging the support she’s gotten and retweeting instructions on how to give a proper apology.
Union’s husband, former NBA player Dwyane Wade, and other prominent people have called for answers on why she was fired.
In a statement last November, NBC and Fremantle defended what they called the show’s “long history of inclusivity and diversity.”
The Screen Actors Guild‐American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, of which Union is a member, also said that it was working with the actress to investigate her complaints.
