(Arlington, VA) — The DMV is marking the 22nd anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks in all sorts of ways. Remembrance ceremonies for the thousands of victims, including the 184 killed when a passenger jet was flown into the Pentagon, will be taking place across the region all day. Aside from the many somber ceremonies, many folks are recognizing this National Day of Service and Remembrance to tackle various volunteer projects.
Steve Harvey Morning Show co-host Shirley Strawberry gave a very heart felt apology to Steve Harvey and his wife Marjorie Harvey for the leaked conversation discussing their private life to her estranged husband while he remains in jail without bond in Fulton County.
Earnest “Ernesto” Williams has been in jail since 2022 for multiple counts of fraud, identity theft, and child pornography.
The conversation was obtained by a Youtuber who requested the audio that revealed what Shirley believed to be a conversation between her and her husband. “I knew [the calls] were being recorded but I didn’t know they would go out to the world,” she said. “I was just trying to make conversation with [Ernesto]. Just get him to think about something other than where he was,” she added.
She further apologizes and explains how embarrassed she feels, adding that, “Divorce proceedings are underway.”

Her name is Roda Bashe. She’s a social media influencer from Houston, Texas. But earlier this week, she posted a video from a hospital emergency room. She says a man hit her in the face with a brick after she refused to give him her phone number. In the video, one side of her face is severely swollen and distorted. Since the video was posted more than 35-thousand dollars has been raised to pay for medical bills and counseling. We’re going to offer some counseling of sorts to those who might seek to respond inappropriately to rejection. We’re also going to offer some advice about how to handle aggressive, unwanted street attention.
(Washington, DC) — A murder suspect is still on the loose in Washington D.C. Police say Christopher Haynes escaped from custody yesterday at George Washington University Hospital. That prompted a shelter in place order for students and staff on campus. Haynes was arrested on murder charges earlier in the day.
(Atlanta, GA) — Former President Trump may try to move his Georgia election case to federal court. His attorneys formally notified the judge in the case of the potential move today. Doing so could help Trump get the charges thrown out by invoking immunity protections for federal officials. Trump has just less than a month to make an official decision. Several co-defendants in the case are attempting to have their cases moved to federal court. Trump was indicted for his alleged efforts to overturn his 2020 election loss in the state.

At 80 years old, President Biden is the oldest President in history. California U.S. Senate Democrat Diane Finestein is 90. Republican Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is 81. Vermont Independent Senator Bernie Sanders is also 81. There are 12 members of Congress over the age of 80 including DC Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton. There’s been a lot of discussion about aging federal lawmakers, including very public incidents for senators McConnell and Finestein questioning whether they should step down. New season of The View is here, but moderator Whoopi Goldberg is not. As cohost Joy Behar noted at the beginning of the broadcast, Oscar-winning Ghost actress and longstanding leader of The View table missed Tuesday’s season 27 debut due to COVID-19.
Joy said, “We’re back. Thank you, this is the premiere show of our 27th year on the air. I was here for all of it, except for two, when they canned me. When they sacked my behind.” She continued, “As you can see, Whoopi is not here, she has COVID. Yes, it’s back, it’s back, but she’s on the mend, she’s on the tail end, and she’ll probably be back this week. But, sorry she’s not here, for those of you that were looking forward to seeing her.”
The 67-year-old has previously missed episodes of The View because of COVID. In November 2022, she already contracted the virus, missing many episodes as a consequence. She had to cope with a COVID infection in January 2022 before that.
(Washington, DC) — Record-setting temps are definitely possible for some spots across the DMV once again today. Dulles and BWI both set record highs on Monday of 99 degrees and forecasters say we’re in for much of the same today into Thursday. The National Weather Service says some parts of the National Capital Region may tickle the century mark this afternoon with the heat index soaring as high as 105. A Heat Advisory is in effect for much of the region from noon to 8:00 tonight.
Prince George’s County Police are investigating a viral video posted to TikTok. In the video, an on-duty officer is hugging and kissing a woman before entering the backseat of his patrol car with her.
“PGPD Executive Command is aware of a video circulating on social media with one of our officers,” PGPDNEWS Tweeted early Tuesday morning.
“As soon as we became aware earlier today, we opened an investigation to determine the circumstances. Additional information will be released once investigated and confirmed,” they added.
According to FOX5DC the original video has been viewed over two million times. The officer has been identified as Francesco Marlett and the police department has opened an investigation to determine the circumstances.
The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission is suing TNT Crane & Rigging, one of the big crane providers in North America, for racial discrimination against four Black employees.
In the August 24 lawsuit, the company allegedly fostered a hostile work environment for employees Edwin Crayton, Lorenzo Smith, Freddie Campbell, and Jason Pradia.
The lawsuit claims employees dealt with a field manager and colleagues using racially offensive language, including the N-word, at work. Hate symbols linked to white supremacy, such as nooses and lightning bolt stickers, were openly shown without consequences.
Smith reported in April of 2018, when he was told by a field manager, “N**ger, if you are going to b**ch about it, you can turn that truck around and take your a** home,” regarding a request to obtain an air conditioning unit.
“TNT knowingly permitted a work environment filled with racist comments and imagery. No employee should have to work in an environment openly hostile to their race, and no employee should suffer reprisal for objecting to discriminatory practices,” EEOC attorney Brian Hawthorne said in a recent news release.
Oprah Winfrey is being accused of protecting her Hawaii estate from wildfires. Social media users claim she hired private firefighters to protect her land from the flames.
Many are still outraged by the former talk show host’s public visits to shelters where displaced residents sought refuge after losing their homes.
TikTok video claims Winfrey hired a team before the fires and didn’t help displaced people. Winfrey has lived in Maui part-time for over 15 years. The video targets shady real estate deals targeting displaced residents. One X user claims the deals helped the mogul buy her land cheaply.

Tory Lanez, who is serving a 10-year prison sentence, asked a judge to grant him bail while lawyers appeal his conviction.
Lanez attempted to downplay his connection to his home country in his latest attempt to regain his freedom. The Canadian artist insisted he will stay in Los Angeles if he’s released from prison, according to a bail motion obtained by reporter Meghann Cuniff. “Although the Peterson family originally hails from Canada, they do not have strong ties to this location,” his lawyers argued.
“Mr. Peterson does have a close friend who is like family that he helps provide for her child, despite this not being his biological child. Additionally, a couple of Mr. Peterson’s siblings live in Canada but frequent the Los Angeles area to join their family.”
The motion continues, “The converse is not true, as Mr. Peterson does not visit his home country often. When he does, it is for employment and at this time he will visit his friends and family.”
Beyoncé has been named as having the highest-grossing female tour of all time, and now the IRS wants their cut.
According to OK! Magazine, the IRS stands by the initial assessment of the Queen’s tax bill and vows that no errors were made. The IRS wants $805,850 in taxes and $161,170 in penalties for 2018, and $1,442,747 in taxes and $288,549.40 in penalties for 2019.
The IRS will add compounded interest to Beyoncé’s tax bill until it’s paid in full. Beyoncé filed a redetermination petition against the IRS in April. She claimed the IRS made errors by disallowing various deductions, including taxes, depreciation, management fees, utilities, etc.
The singer will not have to pay anything until the final judgment from the federal court is given, as she plans to continue contesting the ruling.
Mrs.Carter isn’t the first to deal with the IRS. Neyo, Lil Kim, Nas, and Wesley Snipes are just a few to be named that have been targets of the IRS.

What you may not know is that some of the children in need of foster care were not born here. A significant and growing number of children in foster care are immigrants or refugees. (Upper Marlboro, MD) – Prince George’s County police say at least 13 people have fallen victim to a familiar tech support scam, which cost the victims approximately 287-thousand dollars. The scam targets individuals with pop-up messages that warn their computer may have a virus or other problem. They are then directed to speak with a bogus tech support agent, who remotely connects with their computer and then convinces the victim to transfer money from their bank accounts into wire transfers, cryptocurrency, or gift cards. The average age of the victims is 69. The Federal Trade Commission says no legitimate tech company will contact out of the blue with messages; anyone who may have been a victim of such a scam is asked to call the police.
The TSA is expecting a high volume of Labor Day flyers and is advising travelers to arrive at airports early. It’s also recommended to check the TSA’s What Can I Bring? tool online.
The TSA believes more than 14 million travelers will be in airports over the holiday weekend with Friday expected to be the busiest day.
Chrissy Teigen, a former model and food author, now juggles being a mother of four. She and her husband, John Legend, added two additional children to their family after raising Luna and Miles before.
In January, Teigen gave birth to her daughter Esti. Then, through a surrogate, the couple welcomed son Wren in June. Teigen recently discussed her surrogacy experience with PEOPLE, revealing why she wants to keep in touch with her surrogate, Alexandra, for the rest of her life.
She said, “I told her at the beginning of this journey, I wanted someone who would be there for birthday parties and throughout life.” She continued, “I wanted to meet her children, and I wanted my children to be friends with her children. And they really genuinely are, which has been a really beautiful thing to see.”
She added, “I wanted her to feel like she could take off her shoes and kick up her feet on our couch. We could watch TV together, and my daughter could play with her daughter up in her room. It felt like she could come over anything, and I really feel like we do still have that relationship. It’s been really wonderful.”
The DMV is home to the third largest number of Black immigrants in the nation. Making for a melting pot of diversity and lots of opportunities for social inclusiveness. Michael Jackson‘s sons Prince and Blanket were seen in Las Vegas on their late father’s 65th birthday, looking unrecognizable.
Prince, 26, and Blanket, 21, were spotted talking to guests at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas after watching a Cirque du Soleil show called Michael Jackson ONE. The show showcases Jackson’s hits with acrobatics, dance, and immersive visuals.
At one point, Prince even received a gift from one of the attendees – a drawing of his father, which he accepted and hugged the woman who gave it to him. Blanket appeared more subdued and kept to himself in the snaps.
Out touring with her band, sister Paris Jackson, 25, wasn’t present. She’s recently had to remind social trolls that although she didn’t post a tribute to her father on social, doesn’t mean she doesn’t love him. She shared, “he actually didn’t like us to remember his birthday because he didn’t want parties.”

“And I think here’s the other issue is they’re specifically only banning menthol, which is the preferred choice of black smokers between 80 to 85% and Hispanic smokers, which I’ve seen at 48%, versus white adult smokers who use menthol, only 30% of white adult users,”says Goldstein.
She continues, “History has shown us how this often ends. I want to try to prevent the death of another Eric Garner, another member of marginalized communities that we’ve already overpoliced in many aspects because the drug war or we’re trying to solve socioeconomic issues through the criminal justice system.”

The Prince George’s County Executive is mounting a spirited campaign to claim the seat in 2024. She joins us in the Candidate’s Corner to talk about her candidacy.
(Germantown, MD) — Montgomery County police are searching for the gunman who shot two employees early this morning at Topgolf in Germantown. It happened as workers were closing the entertainment venue at about midnight. Police say a man opened fire, injuring an 18-year-old man and a 23-year-old man. The pair suffered serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect drove away, but police have yet to release a description.
Prince George’s County firefighters are facing a staffing shortage and are calling on county leaders to do something about it.
According to DC News Now, The long shifts are taking a toll on their mental health and social lives, and they are also being required to work big events at the National Harbor and FedEx Field, leaving them with fewer firefighters to respond to other emergencies.
Grant Walker, Vice President of the Prince George’s County Professional Firefighters and Paramedics Association says, “When Prince George’s County is running more calls than ever before in its history, and we have less firefighters to run those calls. It becomes very difficult for our firefighters.”
The union is asking county leaders to expedite the hiring process so they can get more firefighters, as they need nearly 250 to be in a comfortable position.
“While Prince George’s County has taken a number of steps to improve their hiring process, we’re still based in a very governmental system that moves in a very stepwise motion, instead of condensing our hiring process into a shorter timeframe so that they get the most qualified candidates as soon as possible into our ranks,” Walker mentions.
County leaders have not yet responded to the request.

Laguerre was a 19-year-old high school graduate who worked at the store to help support his grandmother, Carr was an Uber driver beloved by her children, and Gallion was a devoted dad who was looking forward to a father-daughter dance with his 4-year-old daughter.
Community leaders are expected to gather downtown this evening as they call on state lawmakers to take action against white supremacy. Sheriff T.K. Waters says three Black people were killed when a 21-year-old gunman opened fire at a Dollar General on Saturday. The FBI is investigating the shooting as a hate crime.
Sheryl Lee Ralph shared her thoughts on Sherri Shepherd’s crush on her son, Etienne Maurice. The “Abbott Elementary” star appeared on Kelly Ripa’s SiriusXM podcast “Let’s Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa.”
Ralph excitedly mentioned his son’s engagement to ABC News journalist Stephanie Wash. Shortly after, she was asked if Shepherd would “get over” her son’s engagement to a woman who is not her. TV legend Bob Barker, known for hosting “The Price Is Right” for 35 years, has died, Page Six can confirm.
He was 99. “It is with profound sadness that we announce that the World’s Greatest MC who ever lived, Bob Barker has left us,” his rep told us Saturday (August 26). According to TMZ, the game show host died peacefully in his Los Angeles home Saturday morning of “natural causes.”
Barker hosted “Truth or Consequences” from 1956 to 1975. He hosted shows like “End of the Rainbow,” “The Family Game,” “Simon Says,” and “That’s My Line.” In 1972, he hosted “The Price is Right,” solidifying his legacy.
Comedian Drew Carey shared his condolences, posting, “Very sad day for the Price Is Right family, and animal lovers all over the world.” He continued,”There hasn’t been a day on set that I didn’t think of Bob Barker and thank him. I will carry his memory in my heart forever. #RIPBobBarker We love you.”

(Washington, DC) — President Biden and Vice President Harris will commemorate the 60th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.’s historic march on Washington. The two will meet with civil rights leaders and members of the King family Monday at the White House. The president will give remarks to commemorate the anniversary. A rally and march are planned for Saturday at the Lincoln Memorial. Organizers estimate some 75-thousand people will attend.
Noah Lyles, a 26-year-old from Alexandria, Virginia, earned the title of “World’s Fastest Man” this past weekend, after winning the gold medal in the 100-meter dash during the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
On Friday, he has a chance to become the first man to win the 100 and 200 meter races at a world championship since Usain Bolt did it eight years ago.
On Saturday, he’s aiming for another win in the 4X100 relay, which would make him the first American to bring home three gold medals at a single world championship since 2007.
Aaliyah was a well-accomplished rising star who died tragically in a plane crash at the tender age of 22 on August 25, 2001.

ATLANTA (AP) — Former President Donald Trump surrendered Thursday on charges that he illegally schemed to overturn the 2020 election in Georgia, a brisk 20-minute booking that yielded a historic first: a mug shot of a former American president.
He was released on $200,000 bond and headed back to the airport for his return flight home to New Jersey.
Trump’s surrender to law enforcement authorities has become by now a familiar election-season routine in a way that belies the unprecedented spectacle of a former president being booked, in four different cities, on felony criminal charges.
But his visit to Atlanta was notably different from the three past surrenders, unfolding at night and requiring him to visit a problem-plagued jail — rather than a courthouse — and not in a liberal bastion like New York or Washington but rather in the heart of a battleground state vital to the 2024 presidential election. And unlike in other cities that did not require him to pose for a mug shot, a booking photo of him was taken, according to a person familiar with the proceedings.
Trump landed in Atlanta shortly after 7 p.m. and was driven, through the city’s rush-hour traffic, to jail for the booking process. Wearing his signature white shirt and red tie, he offered a wave and thumbs up as he descended the steps of his private plane.
He completed the process in 20 minutes, providing officials as is customary with his physical measurements: 6 foot 3 inches. 215 pounds. Strawberry or blond hair.
The Fulton County prosecution is the fourth criminal case against Trump since March, when he became the first former president in U.S. history to be indicted. Since then, he’s faced federal charges in Florida and Washington, and this month he was indicted in Atlanta with 18 others — including his ex-chief of staff, Mark Meadows, and former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani — under a racketeering statute normally associated with gang members and organized crime.

According to The Food And Drug Administration listeria is a bacteria that can be found in moist environments, soil, water, decaying vegetation, and animals, and can survive and even grow under refrigeration and other food preservation measures. When people eat food contaminated with L. monocytogenes, they may develop a disease called listeriosis.
The restaurant made a statement Saturday addressing the Health Department investigation,” Today, we were deeply saddened to learn the Washington State Department of Health is reporting six people were
hospitalized with foodborne listeriosis and three people later died. We are heartbroken and deeply regret any harm our actions could have caused.”
“As a family-owned business for over 30 years, the trust of our customers is paramount,” the statement reads. “We will continue to fully cooperate with this investigation, and we are committed to making any changes deemed necessary to maintain our high standard of operations and prevent this from happening again.”

(Annapolis, MD) — Maryland’s highest court has sided with developers who are planning to convert a Prince George’s County airport into housing. By a 4-to-3 decision, the state Supreme Court overturned a lower court ruling. The question involves a change in zoning of land that is currently home to Freeway Airport, which opens the door for development. Some area residents are opposed to the plan, concerned that the existing road could not handle increased traffic from such a development. In its decision, the high court noted the project furthers, quote, “a valid public interest” due to the safety concerns raised.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a warning to consumers to stop using two new eye drop products.
The two products identified are “Dr. Berne’s MSM Drops 5% Solution” and “LightEyez MSM Eye Drops – Eye Repair.”
The FDA says these eye drops have potential bacterial or fungal contamination, which can lead to vision and life-threatening infections. These are the latest warnings about eye drops from the FDA.
Earlier this year, a number of eye drop brands were linked to a drug-resistant bacteria outbreak that resulted in four deaths and many infections in a total of 18 states.
The FDA encourages, “consumers properly discard these products as FDA describes. Using contaminated eye drops could result in minor to serious vision-threatening infection which could possibly progress to a life-threatening infection.”
They added”FDA emailed LightEyez Limited on August 21, 2023 seeking to discuss FDA’s concerns with LightEyez products distributed in the U.S. and further steps to protect consumers from using the contaminated eye drops. To date, LightEyez has not responded to FDA or taken action to protect consumers.”

While another added,”S**t how about I had a possession charge 7 years ago and can’t even get a spark driver job delivering food for Walmart.”

At her latest concert over the weekend in California, Patti LaBelle did more than just sing.
On Saturday, August 19, the iconic Godmother of Soul, famed for taking off her shoes and rolling about on stage, gave a performance at San Diego’s The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park.
A concertgoer there recorded a video of LaBelle performing “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” while dressed entirely in white. A section of the crowd cheered her theatrical performances as she flung the microphone stand off the platform and away from the spectators.
The Neighborhood Talk posted the clip, with people commenting on this video and saying, “Somebody said ‘Cardi LaBelle’ and I’m SCREAMING.” Another added, “She seen how y’all been acting up at concerts lately and wanted y’all to know she ain’t the one.”
One person mentioned, “This is her staple… she been doing this and she throws it to the side of her stage and not towards any people for you slow people in the back.”

Baltimore’s record came to an end after falling 29-28 to the Washington Commanders at FedEx Field in Landover. Joey Slye kicked a 49-yard field goal with nine seconds remaining to lead the Commanders to their second victory of the preseason. Sam Howell completed 19 of 25 for 188 yards and two touchdowns. Josh Johnson and Anthony Brown each saw time under center for the Ravens, and each threw two touchdowns and one interception.
A legend was born to parents Daniel and Anne Bell Gibson on August 25, 1927, in Clarendon County, South Carolina.
On August 22, 1950, tennis legend Althea Gibson was accepted by the U.S. Lawn Tennis Association into the annual Forrest Hills championship. Six days later, Gibson would defeat Barbara Knapp in straight sets to clinch her first USLTA match.
It took Gibson a few years to find her footing on the tour. Her first major victory came in 1956 at the French Open. The following year, she would command at both Wimbledon and the U.S. Open, winning the tournaments at the age of 30. In the 1960s, Gibson also became the first African American to compete on the women’s golf tour. Elected to the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1971.
Gibson fell ill after suffering two cerebral aneurysms and a stroke. She later passed away from respiratory failure at a hospital in East Orange, N.J. in 2003 at the age of 76.
The creator of Living Single, Yvette Lee Bowser, recently opened up about the show’s impact and how it was a ‘love letter’ to Black women.
Bowser said about the show’s premiere, “I was actually at a hair appointment. As a Black woman, (that’s) fitting.” She continued, “It was May 10, 1993. I got a phone call telling me that the show was getting picked up for another 12 episodes in addition to the pilot.”
She added, “I called my mother first and then I call my girlfriends. You know that show that I wrote about? It’s actually going to be on TV. I’m not going to just be sitting at home in my robe watching the one episode over and over and over again.”
She continued, “I wanted to create a series that centered on and celebrated women. When you create something that is intended to be a love letter, and you pour love into it over time, what I’ve found is that you continue to get love back over an extended and unexpected period of time.”
Anyone that watched Living Single knew the feeling of how amazing it was to watch successful Black people on television. Watching them go through trials and tribulations and them being real. Browser deserves her flowers and then some for her work.

“I can’t believe it’s been a little over 25 years,” said Kenan. “It’s such a beautiful blessing to still be doing it after all these years,” said Kel about the second film.
In Good Burger 2, we find Dexter down on his luck after an invention of his fails. Ed gives him his Good Burger job back and Dex’s plans again put the burger joint in jeopardy.

(Alexandria, VA) — Coinciding with today’s first day of classes for kids attending Alexandria City Public Schools comes the start of a new speed camera safety effort. The Safe Routes to School program is aimed at keeping kids safe while walking or biking to school. With its launch brings four new speed cameras watching over Hammond and GW middle schools and Day and John Adams elementary schools. They’re marked with flashing signs to alert drivers when a 15-mile-per-hour speed limit is active. Only warnings will be issued until tickets and fines start September 18th.

It’s the end of the work week. Time to breathe a sigh of relief after dealing with the stresses of the workplace. Sometimes those stresses can be small, but significant when directed at you by coworkers.
We’re talking about microaggressions on the job, especially those delivered by passive-aggressive “Karens”. Yes… “Karens” are still “Karening”. We’re also going to talk about outside the workplace later.
