The matter only became public Monday due to news reports.

El DeBarge was arrested at a gas station recently after he got into a verbal exchange with police officers.
Reportedly, El DeBarge was parked at the gas station on Sunday. The cops noticed that his tags were expired. As they approached the vehicle, they saw a baton, which is illegal. After searching the vehicle, the cops also found pepper spray and narcotics.
It was discovered that DeBarge didn’t have a valid driver’s license as well. The singer was arrested and booked on a number of chargers. While able to post a $25,000 bond, he will be back in court in March to face all the charges such as possession of a leaded cane or baton, controlled substance, and drug paraphernalia.
DeBarge has a felony vandalism charge from 2018 when he allegedly took a wrench to a man’s RV windshield. From that incident, he spent a night in jail and posted $20,000 bail.

In a press release CAIR, which is a grassroots advocacy and civil rights group, applauded Walmart for removing the listing. “We thank Walmart for dropping an online listing for oddly/poorly named KKK boots after we brought this to their attention earlier today.”
The Business Insider reported that a Walmart spokesperson said the boots were listed by an outside third party seller. The publication quoted Walmart saying “We removed the item because it is inconsistent with the company’s values and violates Walmart’s prohibited product policy.”
Boots with letters KKK on them no longer will be sold on Walmart website.
Authorities took the child into custody after the shooting, noting they didn’t believe it was accidental.

Metro train operator arrested for driving while intoxicated. He’s now suspended.
Published reports cite an email from Metro indicating the operator had been suspended and cannot return to work. The alleged incident happened December 23rd . Roberts is accused of missing a stop and stalling ut for a half-hour with passengers onboard.
Reports indicate Roberts was arrested after transit controllers learned that a Blue Line train had driven past the Van Dorn Street station in Alexandria before coming to a stop and then paused on the tracks for an additionally 30 minutes before it continued on to the Franconia Springfield station to let passengers off safely.
According to reports, transit police arrested Roberts on suspicion of driving while under the influence after an officer noted the operator’s “bloodshot eyes and slurred speech.” Additionally, the report says the officer smelled alcohol emanating from Roberts.
Metro says Roberts has worked for the transit agency since 2017 and has been operating trains since 2019.
In the suit, Racine said Grubhub violated the District’s consumer protection laws.

WASHINGTON (AP) — House Republicans flailed through a second day of multiple balloting Wednesday, unable to elect Rep. Kevin McCarthy as House speaker or to come up with a new strategy to end the political chaos that has tarnished the start of their new majority.
For a sixth time, Republicans tried to vote McCarthy into the top job as the House plunged deeper into disarray. That came moments after the fifth showed Freedom Caucus conservative holdouts still refusing to support him, unchanged from the previous time around and leaving him far short of the 218 votes typically needed to win the gavel.
“Let cooler, more rational heads prevail,” said Rep. Warren Davidson, R-Ohio, a conservative aligned with the far-right Freedom Caucus who nevertheless nominated McCarthy.
Rep. Lauren Boebert, a firm Colorado conservative, nominated Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Fla., the chosen protest candidate of the day— and called for former President Donald Trump, the conservatives’ hero, to tell McCarthy, “`Sir, you do not have the votes and it’s time to withdraw.”
Earlier Wednesday, Trump had done the opposite, urging Republicans to vote for McCarthy. “Close the deal, take the victory, he wrote on his social media site, using all capital letters. “Do not turn a great triumph into a giant & embarrassing defeat.”
The House gaveled in at noon, but no other work could be done — swearing in new members, forming committees, tackling legislation, investigating the Biden administration — until the speaker was elected.

Health experts are sounding the alarm about a dramatic jump in children accidentally eating cannabis edibles.
According to the report, the number of children younger than 6 who accidentally ate edible cannabis products rose to over 3,000 in 2021. That’s up from just under 310 in 2017. Overall youth unwittingly eating the products during the same time period was over 7,000.
Health experts say there are several factors driving up the numbers. Edible cannabis products often come in child appealing forms resembling popular candy. Additionally, officials say the edibles are increasingly available as more states legalize recreational marijuana.
Officials are sounding the alarm about the increase. While there have been no fatal cases, health experts say in most cases edible cannabis can cause nervous system depression in children. That condition can manifest as drowsiness, sleepiness, lethargy, and in a few cases seizure activity.
More violence rocked the District of Columbia in a rush-hour shooting on a busy stretch of Georgia Avenue NW. Four people were shot, including an 8-year-old.
Police are looking for two gunman who fled in a small gray or silver SUV. The shooting happened around 6 p.m. in the 6200 block of Georgia Avenue. Police say the three male victims were targeted as they stood near a vehicle. “That’s when two suspects drove up and got out of their vehicle in traffic fired shots at these three young men standing around,” said Police Chief Robert Contee. Police do not believe the child was targeted.
Police do not have a motive for the shooting. But Contee is concerned the latest violence could spur retaliation. He says the ATF is joining the investigation. Tuesday’s shooting is the latest round of violence that has rocked the city in just the first three days of the New Year.

The Bills-Bengals game that was suspended Monday night after Buffalo safety Damar Hamlin suffered cardiac arrest will not be resumed this week and the Week 18 schedule remains unchanged, the NFL said Tuesday.
The NFL has made no decision regarding the possible resumption of the pivotal Bills-Bengals game at a later date.
The 24-year-old Hamlin remained in critical condition on Tuesday after the Bills said his heart stopped after making a tackle in the opening quarter of a game against the Bengals. Medical staff restored his heartbeat during frantic moments on the field before he was loaded into an ambulance. Players from both teams were crying and praying during an emotional scene in front of a national television audience.
“Damar experienced cardiac arrest and was promptly resuscitated by on-site club physicians and independent medical personnel, all of whom are highly trained in implementing the plans for medical emergencies,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a letter sent to all teams that was obtained by The Associated Press. “Damar was stabilized and transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, a Level One trauma center, where he remains in the ICU.”

WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican leader Kevin McCarthy failed in two rounds of voting to become House speaker Tuesday, a historic defeat with no clear way out as House Republicans dug in for a long, messy start for the new Congress.
Needing 218 votes in the full House, McCarthy got just 203 in both rounds — less even than Democrat Hakeem Jeffries in the GOP-controlled chamber.
McCarthy had pledged a “battle on the floor” for as long as it took to overcome right-flank fellow Republicans who were refusing to give him their votes. But it was not at all clear how the embattled GOP leader could rebound after becoming the first House speaker nominee in 100 years to fail to win the gavel from his fellow party members on the initial vote.
Damar Hamlin collapsed on the field during the game between the Bills versus The Bengals. He was given CPR on the field for what was reported for 9 minutes. After being put in an ambulance to leave the field, the team took a knee out of solidarity and love for their brother.
“I’ve never seen anything like that before,” Kurt Warner said on the NFL Radio broadcast.
The Bills announced his diagnosis of cardiac arrest early Tuesday morning:
“Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest following a hit in our game versus the Bengals,” the Bills announced via a statement. “His heartbeat was restored on the field and he was transferred to the UC Medical Center for further testing and treatment. He is currently sedated and listed in critical condition.”
Hamlin is 24 years old. In 2021 he was the sixth draft pick for Pittsburgh. This season he’s been starting for the Bills for three weeks.

Reports came from his brother and bandmate, Verdine, that he passed away Sunday. The cause of death is unclear.

Tory Lanez has been found guilty of the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion; legal name Megan Pete, which left her injured with bullet fragments in her feet.
Seven women and five men made up the jury that deliberated for one day, convicting the 30-year-old Canadian rapper known as Tory Lanez, with the legal name of Daystar Peterson.

Can father’s show too much affection towards a son? How much is too much?
Heading into the early screening of Avatar: The Way of the Water I was admittedly hesitant as to how good the 3 hour and 15 minute sequel could be. Within the first 10 minutes, all my worries subsided as the trademark visuals reminiscent of the first installment were brought to the screen with even more vibrancy and flare. The 3-D simply add more punch and wow factor to already beautiful scenes. Apparently the 13 year wait for this movie was due to the lack of proper technology to create the underwater scenes properly. It was worth the wait.
The story picks up where the first ended, offering a quick synopsis of the prequel and explaining the development of the Navi tribe with their new leader. We’re introduced to new characters as well as catching up on many of our favorites from before. Jake (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) have grown considerably and now have a family of their own whom take centerstage.
The villain in this film is introduced in a creative way that carries its own sense of evolution. Humanity’s capitalistic and greedy nature are again the driving force for disruption on the planet of Pandora. The introduction of the Metkayina clan (water tribe) makes for a layer of adaptation the Omaticaya (forest tribe) family must embrace for survival as they’re sought out by a ramped up villain, hellbent on their destruction.
Outside of the primary conflict, there are internal conflicts within the family as the children grow and search for their own identity and role within the tribe. The Na’vi’s connection to the animal life are beautifully portrayed and again become pivotal relationships in the movie.
For those that enjoyed the first movie, this is a definite upgrade and will again take you away to the fantasy driven world of stunning visual effects, above and below the water. For those looking for deeper politics and insight into societal behaviors, you may struggle to find what you’re looking for. I’ve seen others complain about the simplicity of the story and plot, but I simply wasn’t looking for a “deep” movie. It was entertaining, a visual masterpiece, and I believe trying to explain everything from a sociopolitical viewpoint would have led to significant lulls in the film.
So overall, I give this film a 8.5 out of 10. I can see they plan to have more installments as the very end was a bit questionable and cliché. But it was fun and I encourage you to check it out. With mild profanity and the levels of violence, I would recommend for those 12 and up.
